Shelby GT350 Mustang: The Legend Returns Fordnews.com Nov-17-2014 9:00 AM ET

Mickey Matus LOS ANGELES, – One of the most iconic performance Mustang nameplates of all time is returning, Ford confirmed today with the reveal of the all-new Shelby® GT350 Mustang.

The original Shelby GT350 introduced in 1965 established Mustang’s performance credentials. The all-new Shelby GT350 Mustang, featuring the most powerful naturally aspirated Ford production engine ever, is a world-class performance vehicle, designed to tackle the planet’s most challenging roads – an all-day track car that’s also street legal.

The new GT350 builds on Carroll Shelby’s original idea – transforming a great every-day car into a dominant road Mickey Matus giving a presentation to members racer – by taking advantage of a dramatically improved

sixth-generation Mustang to create a truly special driving experience. Driving enthusiasts behind the wheel of a Shelby GT350 can expect to be treated to the most balanced, nimble and exhilarating production Mustang yet.

Ford engineers took an innovative approach with GT350. Rather than develop individual systems to perform well independently, every component and shape is optimized to work in concert; balance is the key. While paying rigorous attention to detail, the team pushed the envelope with cutting-edge materials and technologies.

“When we started working on this car, we wanted to build the best possible Mustang for the places we most love to drive – challenging back roads with a variety of corners and elevation changes – and the track on weekends,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development. “Every change we made to this car was driven by the functional requirements of a powerful, responsive powerplant – nimble, precise handling and massive stopping power.”

Fall Cruise Fun

By Ken Kirchoff

MOCSEM members being greeted by Orchard Management

The day started with a caravan from Sterling Heights up to Not ALL Mustang Owners are Obsessed with the orchard. Traffic was stopped as the caravan was Horsepower directed into the special parking lot dedicated only to By Robert Musial Mustangs. There were 15 MOCSEM cars and about 30 to 40 members attending this years fall cruise on October 26th to Westview-Orchards. Those in attendance received a warm welcome from one of the orchards workers. The orchard provided each Mustang with a nice cloth goodie bag with a t-shirt and a $10 coupon inside to be used at the orchard. It was a good array of generation of Mustangs and colors. All of them looked great in the cool autumn air.

First off, I’m probably not the average MOCSEM member.

I couldn’t rebuild an engine. I didn’t lust after Mustangs since I was in high school. And when I finally got my 2012, the model I wanted came with the 305-horsepower V6 that gets 31 mpg on the highway – which suits me just fine.

There was a several month wait to get the car because I wanted it in Red Candy Metallic and the Asian tsunami had created a supplier problem that made the paint temporarily unavailable. No problem. I put the time to good use to fine-tune what I wanted on my Mustang.

Fortunately, the 2012 options list gave owners a good start personalizing the car right from the factory. Since the car would be my daily driver (yes – gasp! – even in winter), it was fun making my choices.

Since I wasn’t looking to be the fastest guy in the neighborhood, I went for making the car look sharp.

Let’s see … the limited-edition Mustang Club of America Mustang Owners Club of Southeastern Michigan • PO Box 39088, Redford, MI 48239 • www.mocsem.com The Accelerator Page 9

model with the special billet grille – check. to include Mustang Heros’ such as Gale Halderman. The evening included first class meal, music and speeches. Saddle-colored heated leather seats and door inserts – check. Eighteen-inch dark gray aluminum wheels – check. Rear decklid spoiler and blacked-out trunk panel – check.

I chose a full range of creature features. And since HID headlights and a back-up camera would soon be a federal standard, they made the list, too. (Resale feature?)

So it’s certainly not your typical “fast and furious” Mustang with the fire-breathing V8 that only gets driven when it’s sunny outside and temperatures are above 50 degrees.

With no stripes or side emblems, it’s very clean-looking. I’d say subtle, if it weren’t for the color. And about that: A friend warned that a red Mustang would be a cop magnet. I soon found out he was right. President Mike Rey Opens the evening’s activities

A few months into the car, I pulled up in front of a local drugstore – followed by a police car. The officer got out and walked up to my window. His first words?

Not “May I see your license and registration?” but “Is that a factory color?” Then we just talked cars for a few minutes until he went back on patrol.

Later, thanks to the Ford Performance Group, I found out my Mustang’s build date and that it is one of only 195 manufactured in 2012 in that specific color and model.

To this day, it draws compliments from passersby (many with their own Mustang stories), and the occasional thumbs’ up on the road, from a diverse bunch of admirers Cake shared with all the workers ranging from Harley riders to Prius drivers.

And there’s that guy at my bank who said he often sees my car parked in front of my house. He liked it so much, he’s been playing my license plate numbers in the Lotto. And he won. Not the Mega Millions but enough to take his wife out to a nice dinner.

All in all, it’s been an amazing ride – and I’m glad I finally succumbed to Mustang fever.
