Porto must end a long winless run in the UEFA Champions League knockout phase to turn round their tie against a Roma team whose impressive home form has once again left them well placed to reach the quarter-finals. • In the first leg, two goals from 19-year-old midfielder Nicolò Zaniolo made it four successive home wins in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages for Roma, although Adrián López scored what could be a crucial goal 11 minutes from time to set up an intriguing second leg at the Estádio do Dragão. • That defeat ended Porto's five-game winning run in this season's competition, the Portuguese side having scored three goals or more in their four outings prior to the trip to Italy as they eased to first place in Group D. Roma, meanwhile, were second to holders Real Madrid in Group G, although their campaign has also included their biggest UEFA Champions League victory. Previous meetings • Porto were unbeaten in their four matches with Roma before the first leg. • They knocked out the Italian side in the second round of the 1981/82 European Cup Winners' Cup thanks to a 2-0 home first-leg victory that took them through by the same aggregate scoreline. • Porto players also provided both goals when the sides met again in Portugal in the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League play-offs, although this time it ended in a 1-1 draw; André Silva's 61st-minute penalty got the home side back on terms after a Felipe own goal had given Roma a first-half lead. • The Portuguese side turned on the style in the Stadio Olimpico return, goals from Felipe (8), Miguel Layún (73) and Jesús Corona (75) earning an impressive victory and a place in the group stage. • Aside from the goalscorers, Iker Casillas, Maxi Pereira, Alex Telles, Héctor Herrera, Danilo, Otávio, Sérgio Oliveira and Adrián López all featured for Porto in that tie with Iván Marcano, who swapped Porto for Roma last summer, playing all 180 minutes for the Portuguese side. Juan Jesus, Diego Perotti, Kosas Manolas, Daniele De Rossi, Edin Džeko and Federico Fazio appeared for Roma. Form guide Porto • Porto suffered a heavy defeat in last season's round of 16, losing 5-0 at home to Liverpool and on aggregate. The first-leg loss to Roma means they are without a win in their last six UEFA Champions League knockout matches (D1 L5). • Porto's record in the round of 16 is W3 L7, and they have won only one of their last five ties. They have reached this stage for the third year in a row but have not made it to the quarter-finals since 2014/15. • Porto have won five of their nine two-legged ties against Italian clubs, although the most recent, against Juventus in the 2016/17 round of 16, ended in a 3-0 aggregate defeat (0-2 home, 0-1 away). • The defeat by Juventus in Portugal ended Porto's seven-match unbeaten home run against Italian visitors (W3 D4). • Porto won all three home games in this season's group stage, against Galatasaray (1-0), Lokomotiv Moskva (4-1) and Schalke (3-1). They have won seven – and lost five – of their last 14 home European matches. • The Dragons' last European defeat before the first leg came in last season's round of 16 first leg to Liverpool; their record between the two losses was W5 D2. Their five victories in a row before their defeat in Rome set a new club record for successive wins, eclipsing their previous best set in the 1996/97 group stage. • Porto's tally of 16 points was the highest of any club in this season's group stage. • Porto have won only four of the 20 UEFA competition ties in which they lost the away first leg, most recently going down to Borussia Dortmund in the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League round of 32 (0-2 away, 0-1 home). However, three of their four victories have come when the away first leg ended in a 2-1 defeat, although they lost on the last such occasion, against Real Madrid in the 1987/88 European Champion Clubs' Cup second round (1-2 home) – only their second aggregate defeat after a 1-2 away reverse. • Porto's record in three UEFA penalty shoot-outs is W1 L2: 1-4 v Schalke, 2007/08 UEFA Champions League round of 16 8-7 v Once Caldas, 2004 European/South American Cup 3-5 v Sampdoria, 1994/95 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup quarter-final Roma • Roma's round of 16 record is W3 L3. They beat Lyon (2006/07) and Real Madrid (2007/08) in their first two appearances, but then lost to Arsenal (2008/09), Shakhtar Donetsk (2010/11) and Madrid (2015/16) before beating

Shakhtar on away goals last season (1-2 away, 1-0 home). • Roma had lost five successive matches in the round of 16 before that second-leg win against Shakhtar last season. • Roma, runners-up in the 1983/84 European Cup, reached the semi-finals last season, beating Shakhtar and Barcelona in the knockout rounds – when a 4-1 away defeat was followed by a 3-0 victory at the Stadio Olimpico – before succumbing to Liverpool. • The Giallorossi lost all three away games in last season's knockout rounds, and two of their three away matches in Group G in the current campaign. The 2-1 victory at CSKA Moskva on matchday four is their only win in their last eight European away games (D1 L6), since a 2-1 success at Qarabağ on matchday two in 2017/18. • Roma's record in two-legged knockout ties against Portuguese sides is W3 L3; the 2016/17 defeat by Porto ended a run of three successive victories. • Roma have drawn on their last two trips to Portugal, where their overall record is W2 D3 L2. • That 2016 loss to Porto was only Roma's second in their last 12 matches against Portuguese clubs (W6 D4). • Roma have won 26 of the 30 UEFA competition ties in which they won the home first leg, most recently against Gent in the 2009/10 UEFA Europa League third qualifying round (3-1, 7-1). The most recent of their four defeats came at the hands of Manchester United in the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals (2-1, 1-7). That United tie is one of only two instances where the home first leg finished 2-1 in Roma's favour; the other came against Real Madrid in the last 16 of the 2007/08 competition (2-1 away). • Roma's record in four UEFA penalty shoot-outs is W1 L3: 6-7 v Arsenal, 2008/09 UEFA Champions League round of 16 3-4 v Real Zaragoza, 1986/87 European Cup Winners' Cup first round 3-4 v Liverpool, 1983/84 European Champion Clubs' Cup final 4-2 v Norrköping, 1982/83 UEFA Cup second round Links and trivia • Marcano played for Porto between 2014 and 2018, winning the Portuguese league title in 2017/18. • Porto coach Sérgio Conceição played for Roma's city rivals Lazio between 1998 and 2000, winning the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in his first season, a / double in his second, and another domestic cup in 2003/04 following spells with Parma and Inter. His record against Roma was W2 D3 L4. • Conceição faced current Roma coach Di Francesco four times in the Rome derby; one win for Lazio, two for Roma and a 3-3 draw in which Di Francesco scored. • Džeko scored in Manchester City's 4-0 win against Porto in the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League round of 16. • Džeko and Aleksandar Kolarov scored past Casillas as the latter's Real Madrid beat Manchester City 3-2 in the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League group stage. • Pepe was sent off in Real Madrid's 2-1 defeat at home to Roma in the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg. • Otávio scored past Robin Olsen when Porto drew 1-1 with København in the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League group stage. • Have played in Italy: Alex Telles (Internazionale 2015/16) Danilo (Parma 2011/12) • Has played in Portugal: Bryan Cristante (Benfica 2014–16) • Have played together: Danilo & Antonio Mirante (Parma 2011/12) Maxi Pereira & Bryan Cristante (Benfica 2014/15) Alex Telles & Juan Jesus, Davide Santon (Internazionale 2015/16) • Juan Jesus played for Internacional between 2010 and 12, when Otávio was in the club's Under-17 side. • International team-mates: Adrián López & Iván Marcano (Spain Under-21) • De Rossi scored past Casillas when Roma lost 4-2 against Real Madrid in the 2004/05 UEFA Champions League group stage. • Casillas saved a De Rossi penalty when Spain defeated Italy on penalties in the UEFA EURO 2008 quarter-finals.

10 FC Porto - AS Roma Wednesday 6 March 2019 - 21.00CET (20.00 local time) Match press kit Estádio do Dragão, Porto Head coach Sérgio Conceição Date of birth: 15 November 1974 Nationality: Portuguese Playing career: Penafiel, Leça, Felgueiras, Porto (twice), Lazio (twice), Parma, Internazionale Milano, Standard Liège, Koweit Qadsia, PAOK Coaching career: Standard Liège (assistant), Olhanense, Académica de Coimbra, Braga, Vitória SC, Nantes, Porto • A right winger with an eye for goal, Sérgio Conceição started out in the youth ranks at hometown side Académica and in 1996 joined Porto, where he won two league titles and a Portuguese Cup before leaving for Lazio in 1998. In Rome, he won the 1998/99 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and the UEFA Super Cup the same summer, as well as a Serie A title and a Coppa Italia double in 1999/2000. • He rejoined Lazio after spells at Parma and Inter. Returned to Porto in 2003/04, winning another Portuguese league title under José Mourinho, before finishing his career with spells in Belgium, Kuwait and Greece. Scored 12 goals in 56 Portugal games, including a celebrated hat-trick in a 3-0 win against defending champions Germany at UEFA EURO 2000. • After retiring, worked as PAOK's sporting director and Standard's assistant coach before taking charge of Olhanense back in Portugal midway through 2011/12, guiding the relegation-threatened side to a comfortable eighth-placed finish. • Returned to his home town Coimbra – where a stadium has been named in his honour – to lead Académica in 2013, and then took Braga to the 2014/15 Portuguese Cup final, where they lost to Sporting CP on penalties. • Led Vitória Guimarães in 2015/16, and then pulled Nantes out of a relegation nosedive in France the following season, a respectable seventh-placed finish prompting Porto to hire him on a two-year contract in summer 2017. Rewarded them with a first league title in five years in 2017/18, when Porto also reached the UEFA Champions League last 16. Eusebio Di Francesco Date of birth: 8 September 1969 Nationality: Italian Playing career: Empoli, Lucchese, Piacenza (twice), Roma, Ancona, Perugia Coaching career: Virtus Lanciano, Pescara, Lecce, Sassuolo (twice), Roma • A pacy winger known as 'Turbo', Di Francesco came through Empoli's youth system, making his Serie A debut in 1987/88. His career really took off at Piacenza between 1995 and 1997, when he earned himself a move to Roma. Transformed into a midfielder by Zdeněk Zeman, he spent four seasons at the Stadio Olimpico, winning the 2000/01 Scudetto although he played only five games that campaign. • Having retired in 2005 after two more seasons at Piacenza and spells with Ancona and Perugia, Di Francesco – who won 12 caps for Italy – spent a year as a Roma director but the lure of coaching proved strong; that new venture began in his native Abruzzo, first with a brief stint at Lanciano before two campaigns with Pescara. • Appointed Lecce coach ahead of 2011/12 for his first Serie A experience, though it proved brief as Di Francesco was sacked after just 13 matches with his side bottom of the table. • Dropped back into the following season; a huge Zeman fan, Di Francesco – named after Portuguese legend Eusébio – had a brilliant start with Sassuolo using his mentor's 4-3-3 system and led the team from the Modena area into Serie A for the first time. • Coached Sassuolo in Serie A for four consecutive campaigns, although the first featured a short interruption as he was replaced for five games by Alberto Malesani only to return and help the side avoid relegation. Known for his entertaining attacking football, he steered Sassuolo to a first UEFA Europa League qualification by finishing sixth in Serie A in 2015/16 before replacing Luciano Spalletti as Roma coach in June 2017. In his first season he took the side into the last four of the UEFA Champions League thanks to a remarkable quarter-final comeback against Barcelona.

UEFA Champions League: Did you know? Overall records • In 2012/13, Chelsea became the first defending champions to fail to get through a group stage since the UEFA Champions League began. (This record, like the others, includes the seasons between 1999/2000 and 2002/03 that featured a second group stage). In 1992/93, Barcelona were the reigning European Champion Clubs' Cup holders and lost 4-3 on aggregate in the second round to CSKA Moskva. • In 2016/17 Real Madrid became the first team to successfully defend the UEFA Champions League trophy, with AC Milan (1989, 1990) the previous club to win consecutive European Cups. Milan (1994, 1995), Ajax (1995, 1996), Juventus (1996, 1997) and Manchester United (2008, 2009) have all returned to the UEFA Champions League final as holders only to lose. • Real Madrid then made it three wins in a row in 2017/18, becoming the fourth club to win three or more successive titles in European Cup history, and the first to do it twice. • Only two teams have ever won the UEFA Champions League on home soil: Borussia Dortmund (1997, final in Munich) and Juventus (1996, final in Rome), while Manchester United lost the 2011 final in London and 12 months later Bayern were beaten in the showpiece in their own stadium, the Fußball Arena München. Group stage • Barcelona have finished as group winners on 20 occasions, four more than Real Madrid and five more than Bayern München and Manchester United. • Bayern München (2 April 2013 to 27 November 2013) and Real Madrid (23 April 2014 to 18 February 2015) jointly hold the record for successive wins in the UEFA Champions League proper with ten. Bayern surpassed the previous mark of nine, set by Barcelona between 18 September 2002 and 18 February 2003. • Six teams have recorded six successive victories in a UEFA Champions League group stage: Milan (1992/93), Paris Saint-Germain (1994/95), Spartak Moskva (1995/96), Barcelona (2002/03, first group stage) and Real Madrid (2011/12 and 2014/15). • Twenty-one teams have gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without picking up a single point, most recently AEK Athens in 2018/19. • In 2017/18, Paris Saint-Germain set a new group stage record by scoring 25 goals, with Liverpool (23) also eclipsing the old mark of 21 set by Borussia Dortmund in 2016/17. Manchester United (1998/99), Barcelona (2011/12, 2016/17) and Real Madrid (2013/14) all managed 20. • Only Deportivo La Coruña (2004/05), Maccabi Haifa (2009/10) and Dinamo Zagreb (2016/17) have failed to score in a group stage. • BATE Borisov conceded 24 goals in 2014/15, a new group stage record which was matched by Legia Warszawa in 2016/17. The previous mark, 22, was held by Dinamo Zagreb (2011/12) and Nordsjælland (2012/13); Malmö shipped 21 in 2015/16. • No team has ever gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without conceding a goal. Milan (1992/93), Ajax (1995/96), Juventus (1996/97 and 2004/05), Chelsea (2005/06), Liverpool (2005/06), Villarreal (2005/06), Manchester United (2010/11), Monaco (2014/15), Paris Saint-Germain (2015/16) and Barcelona (2017/18) all let in just one. • Matchday six of the 2013/14 marked FCSB's 23rd successive game in the competition without a victory, surpassing the previous record of 22 set by Spartak Moskva between December 2000 and November 2006. • Anderlecht hold the unwanted record for successive defeats in the competition, group stage to final, having lost 12 in a row between December 2003 and November 2005. Dinamo Zagreb are next with 11 consecutive losses on two occasions, from September 2011 to November 2012 and ongoing since September 2015. • The lowest total for a team qualifying from the group stage is six points: Zenit in 2013/14 and Roma in 2015/16. Since three points for a win was introduced in 1995/96, eight teams have made it through with seven points: Legia Warszawa (1995/96), Dynamo Kyiv (1999/2000), Liverpool (2001/02), Lokomotiv Moskva and eventual finalists Juventus (both 2002/03), Rangers and Werder Bremen (2005/06) and Basel (2014/15). • Napoli failed to qualify from their group with 12 points in 2013/14, the highest total of any team not to reach the next stage when the top two in each section progressed. Dynamo Kyiv (1999/2000), Borussia Dortmund (2002/03 – both second group stage), PSV Eindhoven (2003/04), Olympiacos and Dynamo Kyiv (both 2004/05), Werder Bremen (2006/07), Manchester City (2011/12), Chelsea and Cluj (both 2012/13), Benfica (2013/14) and Porto (2015/16) all

21 FC Porto - AS Roma Wednesday 6 March 2019 - 21.00CET (20.00 local time) Match press kit Estádio do Dragão, Porto missed out with ten points. Eleven more players, also including Messi, have scored four times in a game, most recently Cristiano Ronaldo for Real Madrid on matchday six in 2015/16. • Cristiano Ronaldo set a new record for a UEFA Champions League group stage with 11 goals in 2015/16, eclipsing his own mark of nine in 2013/14, which Luiz Adriano matched in 2014/15 and Ronaldo himself equalled in 2017/18. Lionel Messi got ten goals in 2016/17; Zlatan Ibrahimović (2013/14), Ruud van Nistelrooy (2004/05), Filippo Inzaghi, Hernán Crespo (both 2002/03) and Robert Lewandowski (2018/19) managed eight. • Messi's hat-trick against PSV Eindhoven on matchday one of the 2018/19 competition was his eighth in the competition, one more than Ronaldo.
