Men hur står det till inom till exempel svensk tennis? Svenska sportskribenter har i decennier förundrat sig över bristen på kvinnliga tennisspelare på världselitnivå. Det går ju så bra för herrarna. Varför kan inte tjejerna hänga på när det vankas tennisunder? Man har genom åren sett flera förklaringsförsök, som i de flesta fall mynnar ut i tanken att tjejerna helt enkelt inte är beredda att satsa det som krävs. Sådana resonemang är naturligtvis lika illa tänkta som de för det mesta är skrivna. Självfallet är det helt andra faktorer som spelar in när flickor eller kvinnor, utan skälig grund, inte är lika väl representerade som männen. De är som regel undanträngda eller missgynnade på ett sätt som brukar beskrivas som diskriminerande. Förhåller det sig så också inom svensk tennis?
