The information comes from the 2008 T3010 Registered Charity Information Return and specifically Question C5: “For programs the charity managed directly, outside of Canada, list the countries or regions where programs were carried on. Do not include countries or regions where programs were managed by a qualified donee.” Why is it useful to have a list of Canadian charities organized by countries or regions in which they operate? 1. If you are interested in a particular country, then it is interesting to note which Canadian charities operate there. 2. If you are interested in supporting a particular country’s development efforts, then you have a list of some of the charities operating there. 3. If an individual, organization or charity is interested in conducting a project in a particular country, then they may wish to partner with one of the charities on the ground. People interested in setting up charities approach our firm frequently, and I usually try to dissuade them from establishing a new charity when there are others doing similar work.   • Indian Sufism Since the Seventeenth Century
    INDIAN SUFISM SINCE THE SEVENTEENTH CENTURY Sufism is often regarded as standing mystically aloof from its wider cultural settings. By turning this perspective on its head, Indian Sufism since the Seventeenth Century reveals the politics and poetry of Indian Sufism through the study of Islamic sainthood in the midst of a cosmopolitan Indian society comprising migrants, soldiers, litterateurs and princes. Placing the mystical traditions of Indian Islam within their cultural contexts, the study focuses on the shrines of four Sufi saints in the neglected Deccan region and their changing roles under the rule of the Mughals, the Nizams of Haydarabad and, after 1947, the Indian nation. Of particular interest is the book’s focus on religion in princely Haydarabad, examining the vibrant intellectual and cultural history of this independent state. However, close attention is also paid to the effects of British colonialism on Sufi individuals and institutions in India. Against these settings, the place of Sufis and their followers in the Indo-Persian and Urdu literary traditions is analysed, showing a popular religious tradition supported by a literature no less than an architecture of sainthood. In this way, an overview of the main developments of devotional Islam in South Asia over the past three centuries is presented from a regional perspective. Indian Sufism since the Seventeenth Century is essential reading for scholars with interests in Sufism, Islam, India and cultural studies. Nile Green is Milburn Research Fellow at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford and Lecturer in South Asian Studies at Manchester University. His wide-ranging research interests focus on Sufism and the history and ethnography of Islam in South Asia, Iran and Afghanistan.

Legal and charitable provisions existed and a few blind characters played a role in epic history, while most blind Asians probably lived quite constricted lives. The 'official' starting dates for formal blind schools are 1874 in China, and 1886 in India, but in fact there was well documented educational work with blind people from the 1830s onward in both countries, and many aspects of it are both interesting and instructive for what came later. Two of the key 19th century special teachers were blind young women. In 1837, missionary teacher Mary Gutzlaff integrated several young, blind, Chinese orphan girls in her small boarding school at Macau. One named 'Agnes Gutzlaff' was then educated in London, and returned in 1856 to Ningpo, moving later to work in Shanghai. Agnes became the first trained and experienced person in China to teach blind people to read, using first the Lucas system, then Willam Moon's embossed script.

    Presidential Address Nova Scotia Medical Society, 1931 DOCTOR DAN MURRAY, Tatamagouche. * Mr. Chairman, Your Worship, Ladies and Gentlemen: I wish in the first place to express to this Society my grateful apprecia­ tion of the high honor conferred upon me in electing me President. For the last quarter of a century, my lot has been cast, like that of the great majority of medical men, in general practice, where the opportunities for keeping abreast of the times have not been all that might be desired; consequently, I value the honour even more. You will pardon me, I trust, if on this occasion I depart from the usual train of formalities followed in Presidential addresses, and discuss, in a blunt and imperfect manner, a few of the problems that confront the profession. My point of view is of course that of the general country practitioner; so my remarks will perhaps make up with a certain representative significance, whatever they may lack in up-to-date, scholarly authority. At such time as this in our history, when kings retain their crowns, or governments preserve their existence, only here and there, where Providence seems to be granting a few days of grace; when the misbehaviour of the stock market is taking the cake from the wealthy and the bread from the poor; when, in fact, it seems that all the forces of civilization are being weighed in the balance;-at such a time as this, I say, is it not reasonable to expect that the practice of ~edicine should also be, as I think it is, in the questioning state of flux that precedes great changes of method and direction? Is there not a tide in the affairs of medicine, and is it now to be taken at the flood? .
