Play Week 2018

Event Brief: Between the 30th July and the 3rd of August 2018, Play Service, Children’s services and partners delivered the tenth ever “Dudley Play Week”. The weeklong event takes place annually to celebrate National Play Day which is celebrated across the country on the first Wednesday in August. The weeklong event saw thousands of families playing and enjoying a varied menu of activities in Dudley parks, thanks to partnership working between statutory, voluntary and private sector

organisations.

Participants: Dudley Play Week was delivered in partnership with a wide range of statutory, voluntary and private sector organisations (43 in total), maximising sharing of resources and enhancing participant’s choice. Those participating included; Dudley Play Service, Sycamore Adventure CIO, Sedgley Kids Club, Public Health - parks, Family Information Service, Healthwatch, Let’s Get Healthy Dudley, Discover Dudley, Dudley Canal Trust, Dudley Tourism, Dudley Sports and Leisure Services, Crystal Leisure Centre, Partnership NHS Trust, NCS Challenge, Dudley Zoo, Black Country Living Museum, Pippa the ten ton bus, Osbourne Books, My Bow Box, Village Hotel, Thomas Jones Funfairs, Rock Up, Zorb Sports, Black Country Radio, Promarco Media, Creative Health CIC, Anytime Fitness, Pure Sports Foundation, Kung Fu Cubs, Sports Plus Scheme, Beacon Centre for the Blind, Read Out Loud, Cambridge Weight Plan, Academy Martial Arts, Fire Service, Priory Pharmacy, ROMPA, Mega Fun Castles, Back to Basics Face Painting, Water Babies, Glitterbugs, Trotalot, The Treasure Chest and St John’s Ambulance.

Attendance: Our tenth Play Week Event was by far the busiest ever with 3,631 children in attendance (5,932 people attending in total). The weather hot and sunny throughout which supported attendance. Feedback: Daily evaluations were completed by 247 participants in total with outstanding feedback received. Participants found the events to be an exciting, cheap, local, family day out, with friendly staff, a wide range of activities on offer for all ages, accompanied by useful information for adults. Feedback supports continual improvement of Dudley Play Week events.

Event Summary: Play Week 2018 was a huge success with nearly 6,000 people in attendance (our busiest play week ever by over 1,000 people). The event was delivered in partnership with 43 statutory, voluntary and private organisations, maximising sharing of resources and enhancing participant’s choice of play activity. A wide and varied menu of play activities was available for children and there was a wealth of information available for adults in attendance. Evaluation proved that Play Week 2018 was an exciting, cheap, local, family day out, with lots of choice for those in attendance, staffed by a friendly approachable multi agency team. Play Week 2019 will take place between Monday the 5th and Friday the 10th of August 2019, so put the date in your diary now and come along and join in with the fun!
