Mary, Most Poor

This reminds me of poverty. It reminds me of poverty because of the scratches. I like the story that goes with the icon. And how Mary’s and ’ garb seem poor but are beautiful.

Mary, Most Sorrowful

This image reminds me of Mary’s evangelical counsel of most sorrowful. I was reminded of this counsel because of the expression on Mary’s face. Her eyes are closed and she looks a little sad. This picture gives me the impression Mary is thinking about her Son’s sad fate. This is my favorite image because I think it is really neat how the artist has portrayed Jesus and Mary with dark skin. I also chose this image because although Mary looks sad, she also looks obedient, which is very inspiring.

Mary, Most Pure

The reason I like Our Lady of Guadalupe as my favorite picture, is because it reminds me how even “old looking” art is beautiful in its own way. The counsel for this work of art is most pure. The reason why is that she was lifted by an angel and stepped on a snake that is a representation of the devil.

Mary, Most Obedient

The image I chose is by Jan Van Eyck (from the Ghent Altarpiece, 1432). I chose this image because it really emphasizes that Mary is a queen, and she is a queen of and earth. I also think this is a beautiful image of Mary. I think of and obedience. I think of obedience because she is holding a bible in her hand praying to God.

Mary, Most Pure

This is my favorite image of Mary because Mary is wearing a blue scarf that looks too big for her. This reminds me of when young children play dress up, which shows and reminds us that Mary is human too. I think the virtue being shown here is most pure because she is young and innocent like all young children. RMC Sacred Art and Mary’s 10 Evangelical Counsels

Mary, Most Patient

This is my favorite image because of how refined the details are. Her face is depicted like a stern face, yet calm. She doesn’t seem to be angry, just peaceful. Other than her facial features, I also admire her robes which have neatly depicted roses. And if I can recall, roses symbolize love and passion. It feels like she’s sending us a message saying, “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.”

I think it matches with patience because Mary looks as if she’s waiting for someone. Her folded hands could mean she is not hasty and anxious. She appears so calm and composed which probably means the person is late.

In my opinion, Mary is telling us, “It’s never too late to turn to God. It’s never too late to ask God for help. Even if you fall into the darkest void in your life, His light will be there to shine at its brightest.”

Quote from Pinterest: God has perfect timing. He is never early, never late. It takes little patience and faith. But it’s worth the wait. MH Sacred Art and Mary’s 10 Evangelical Counsels

Mary, Most Pure

Mary is the perfect model of faith, pictured here with God Himself. In this picture, Mary looks like she is glowing, shining her light down on us.

This picture reminds me of one of her titles, Mary Most Pure…as in pure of heart. She glows from the inside out. Her heart is like the lighthouse inside the mighty sea of life. Guiding us through it to help us find the shore, Heaven.

Mary, Most Pure

This is my favorite image of Mother Mary. I like this image because she is looking down as if she is in heaven and she is watching over us. Her halo is delicate and beautiful like her, and the flowers remind me of the ones depicted in the . Her outfit is how I personally imagine it, plain yet elegant. She is very modest. Her brown hair is more accurate with where she lived, and her face is so gentle. This image makes me feel safe. I think this matches the evangelical counsel of purity because she is dressed modestly, she looks so chaste in this image and the flowers could represent her virginity. There is a large white glow that reminds me of the fact that she is immaculate and holy. In this image she is looking down at you as to remind you to be chaste because she is watching. Mary, Most Pure

I picked this one as my favorite because first it looked visually pleasing. Then I looked more into detail and noticed Mary’s eyes in this art piece. Mary’s gaze towards Jesus looks so full of infinite love and care. And I see wonder in her eyes. I think what I'm seeing is all the feelings of a parent towards their child, all in one. That’s what stood out to me, her eyes. But back to the visually pleasing part. I love the hair accessory on Mary’s head. It’s like a tiara or crown but more humble. And also Mary is again setting another virtuous example, prayer with her prayerful hands. And this image reminds me of Mary most pure because of her eyes. Her eyes don’t seem to have any intentions that aren’t God’s intentions as well. SS Sacred Art and Mary’s 10 Evangelical Counsels

I love this image because it shows her beauty and her purity through art. I like it because it truly is worth staring at for hours and makes you think about Mary and how she must have been. It makes you want to think and reflect on the things that are portrayed in the ways that you might find interesting.

I love it because to me it is just so accurate. Not that she looks like that or anything, because she is probably even more beautiful.

This image reminds me of the following Evangelical Counsels:

Most Pure-----She looks perfectly untouched. Most Humble----I don’t know why but something about this picture simply reminds me of it. Most Faithful----The she carries reminds me of it. Most Devote-----The rosary she carries reminds me of it. Most Merciful-----Her heart and the crown with thorns reminds me of the pain and suffering she experienced when her Son went through all of this pain, too. And the fact that, even so, she still forgave us and called us her children. Most Sorrowful------The Pain she suffered

Mary, Most Humble

My favorite image of Mary is this one of Our Lady of Guadalupe. I really like how she is being raised up and honored, and yet she has her head down and hands together in prayer.

I think this depiction of Mary goes really well with, “Mary, Most Humble”.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help icon shows Mary comforting the baby Jesus.

As a daughter, and especially during this time, I realize how much patience it takes to be a mother. Mary at her young age, was the best mother to Our Lord and to us all.

The first thing I thought of was poverty, which I think was wrong of me. I thought they might be poor because the child isn’t wearing any clothes. I also thought they might reflect poverty because they aren’t American, and I am ashamed of myself for thinking that way. In the end I don’t think this picture relates to poverty, but it was my first thought…

Mary, Most Humble

I love this image of Mary because it is still slightly modern and makes Mary look like an ordinary person, although she is the Queen of Heaven and Earth.

I think that this image matches the evangelical counsel “Mary, Most Humble” because in the image she looks poor and meek…although she is a queen, she is still humble and pious.

Mary, Most Humble

This is my favorite image because it looks more modern and it is very detailed. I also like how Mary is still wearing blue in this image.

I believe this image matches Mary most humble because she is not wearing a lot of jewelry and crowns like in some of the other ones. She obviously deserves the crowns and jewelry, but I like how simple this is.

It is reminding us that she was human and that she was poor.

Mary, Most Humble Mary, Most Pure

My eyes were drawn to this image because I loved how simple it was. The colors were beautiful but there weren’t so many that it was overwhelming. This led me to think of the virtue: Mary, Most Humble. We all know that Mary is Queen of Heaven and Earth, and many images reflect that when they adorn her with gold, flowers, etc. Despite how great she is, this image shows the amount of humility she has because she is still human and doesn’t need all those fancy clothes, jewels, and praise to be a perfect . The other virtue that came to mind was Mary most pure, because of the dove. IS Sacred Art and Mary’s 10 Evangelical Counsels

Mary, Most Poor

I think that the evangelical counsel of poverty goes well with the image of Mary that I chose.

Mary lived a life of poverty, but she did so beautifully.

The image of Mary that I choose is abstract and is not perfect, but it is beautiful. Just because it is not extravagant doesn't mean that it is not beautiful. Simple things can be beautiful.

Mary, Most Devout

This is my favorite image of Mary because it displays not only her physical beauty, but also the beauty of her soul. It shows her studying what is probably the Bible. I think this matches the Evangelical Counsel “Mary, Most Devout” because she was so pious, the painting shows her studying the Bible.

Mary, Most Devout

My favorite image of Mary is the painting of the Virgin Mary by Jan Van Eyck (from the Ghent Altarpiece, 1432). It was my favorite image because it looks like she is reading the word of the Lord, which is Jesus.

The painting was stolen but it was found and recovered. The painting itself is a beautiful depiction of Mary.

The painting matches the Evangelical Counsel of Mary, Most Devout. I picked Most Devout because she always shows a deep feeling and commitment to her Son, the Lord.

Mary, Most Merciful

Our Lady of Lavang matches the evangelical counsel Mary, Most Merciful. When Our Lady visited a small group of Catholics in the little jungle village of Lavang, Vietnam, in 1798, she showed how she is always merciful to her children. Our Lady is most merciful because she never gave up on her children. When we ask her for help, she always listens and she is always loyal towards us. Her unwavering love gives us a path to heaven. The path to live an eternal life with her and God. Saving the Vietnam people during this time of persecution lets us know she has great compassion in her heart…This image soon became one of my favorites because of my ethnicity, but also because of the story behind it. Mary, Most Poor

This image “matches” with the Evangelical Counsel of Mary, Most Poor. Not long ago (and still today sometimes), colored women and men suffered racist comments and treatment. The women perhaps suffered more because they would have children at home and not be able to work – or they would work out of necessity. In Luke 2:7, it says that Mary after giving birth to her newborn son, had wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Mary was not wealthy, just like the colored women, but they tried their best at keeping the baby safe and giving their child what was necessary. It's my favorite image because I went back and read the passage again, and it makes me respect women, more than I already do.

A woman was my first home, she took care of me and gave me love. This image shows Mary caressing her Son. A mother will always have love for her children. GN Sacred Art and Mary’s 10 Evangelical Counsels

Mary, Most Devoted, Most Faithful, and Most Merciful!

I love both of these pictures.

I love this picture because it looks like Mary is looking at God and telling him “Thank you for giving me Your Son!”

I lover the other picture because Mary is looking up at God in Heaven, like Jesus did when He ascended. This picture reminds me that Mary has no sin and she always had faith at God.

Mary, Most Pure

This image of Mary represents her divine purity. I think this because of the lily, which is a symbol of purity. I really like this image because Mary looks exactly how I picture her. I also enjoy the artist’s interpretation of her being surrounded by lilies, one of my favorite flowers. MM Sacred Art and Mary’s 10 Evangelical Counsels

This picture reminds me of the Evangelical Virtue of Mary’s Ardent Love. This image is my favorite image because Mary looks very happy…she has Jesus and she looks like she will protect him no matter the circumstance. So from this, the Evangelical Virtue of Mary’s Ardent Love deeply explains what Mary looks like; like she never wants to let Jesus go.

Mary, Most Faithful, Most Obedient, Most Patient

This picture of Mary is my favorite because all of the details are beautifully made. This picture of Mary appeared to Juan Diego. I chose Mary, Most Faithful because she is praying to God. Also, she is being obedient, she is patiently and calmly praying. CC Sacred Art and Mary’s 10 Evangelical Counsels

Mary, Most Poor Mary, Most Patient

I like this picture of Mary. It shows her love and protection for Jesus, even though He Himself is Christ! It shows Mary as most poor, one of the Ten Evangelical Virtues. The painting itself is not as lavish as many European paintings . It is very simple. It not only shows Mary’s love and protection for Jesus, but also for us. The bird that Jesus holds may represent the world and how He watches over it. Maybe it could represent the Holy Spirit. The colors of the paintings also appear on many African flags…I like how the painting is so simple, and yet the beauty is in the simplicity. It also shows Mary as most patient as she slowly strokes Jesus’s head. Another cool thing about the painting is there is no known artist, so we do not know who made this…The people in Africa are very faithful. JL Sacred Art and Mary’s 10 Evangelical Counsels

Mary, Most Pure, Most Humble, Most Merciful

This picture of Mary shows her virtue of most pure because she is surrounded by roses – which symbolize purity. She is also looking down which shows that she is most humble. This image is my favorite, because I like how it really shows us Mary’s purity and her queenship.

Mary, Most Prudent

This image of Mary is my favorite image because I can feel the sentiments in this picture. In this image, I feel the love of a mother for her child. I also like it because it seems very modern. The evangelical virtue that this image reminds me of is Our Lady most prudent because she is caring for the child she has in her arms. I can also tell there is a bit of sadness on our Lady’s face, worrying of what the future will hold for baby Jesus, like any mother would do.

Mary, Most Pure This is my favorite image because it gives me a sense of calming and reassurance, and it shows Mary and Jesus without all the pain and hardships they had to endure during their time on Earth. I think this image matches the evangelical counsel of most pure because not only are Mary and Jesus holding a dove (which is a symbol of peace and purity) but also because both Mary and Jesus look like they are pure and untouched by sin or anything else in this image - nor does it look like they know about Jesus’ Passion and death. Mary is the purest human that has ever lived on the face of the Earth. GS Sacred Art and Mary’s 10 Evangelical Counsels

I like this image because it depicts Mary as sending her graces to us. She is not only Jesus’ mother, but ours as well. If we ask for her intercession, she will help us. Juan Diego was trying to prove to the bishop that he saw the apparition, but he did not believe him. Our Lady was patient with Juan Diego to prove to the bishop that he saw Her. Mary, Most Obedient

This picture reminds me of the evangelical counsel, obedience. This picture is my favorite because Mary has on cultural clothing which I thought made a unique depiction. The clothing is very decorative so it shows how the people of that culture are devoted to and honor Mary. I think it matches with obedience because of Mary’s posture. She has her hands folded and is looking straight forward. Mary is showing her devotion to God through prayer. She devoted her whole life to Him. EVD
