BLUE JACKETS NOTES NAIL-BITING PLAYOFF AFFAIRS More than half of the Blue Jackets’ playoff games all-time have been decided by a single goal (14-of-26). Eight of the club’s contests have been decided after regulation (4-4, 3-2 on the road) following Thursday's 3-2 overtime loss at Boston. Four of the overtime games were played in the 2018 series against the Capitals (2-2), including the first three meetings.

FAST AND THE FURIOUS Brandon Dubinsky and Pierre-Luc Dubois scored 13 seconds apart in the third period in ECSF Game 1 at Boston (7:39 and 7:52) to establish a franchise record for fastest two goals in a playoff game. It eclipsed the previous mark set in Game 4 of the 2019 First Round vs. Tampa (0:19, 18:07 and 18:26).

ROUND 2 READY The Blue Jackets face the Boston Bruins in the Eastern Conference Semifinals in the franchise’s third-consecutive playoff appearance and fifth all-time. It’s the first time the Jackets have appeared in the second round in the postseason in franchise history. Columbus is facing Boston for the first time in the postseason, who are making their third-straight playoff appearance and 10th in the last 12 seasons. Game Two will be played Saturday in Boston before the series shifts to Nationwide Arena for Games Three (Tuesday) and Four (Thursday).

CBJ’S SPECIAL TEAMS The Jackets killed off all four of Boston’s power play chances in Game 1 on Thursday, the most in a single game so far this postseason. They are now 9-for-10 on the penalty kill this postseason which ranks third in the league (90 pct.). The club also continues to lead the league in power play percentage, where they are 5-for-14 in this year’s playoffs (36.7 pct.).

BOBBING AND WEAVING Sergei Bobrovsky, who led the league during the regular season with a career-high nine shutouts and ranked second in wins (37), turned aside 33-of-37 shots in his first loss of the 2019 postseason in Game 1 on Thursday. He owns a 2.17 GAA and .929 SV% in the postseason.

FRESH BREAD Artemi Panarin has collected points in all five games in the 2019 playoffs, collecting 2-4-6. The winger has notched 6-15-21 in 22 career playoff games, including 4-9-13 in 11 contests as a Jacket. He set single-season franchise records in assists, points and multi-point games during the 2018-19 campaign with 28-59-87 and 25 multi-point efforts in 79 outings.

TOP JACKETS The Blue Jackets have been one of the best teams in the league over the past three seasons, ranking fourth in the league in wins since 2016-17 with 142 victories. They have or are facing all four of the other teams in the top five in the playoffs since that campaign; Tampa Bay (1st, 158), Washington (2nd, 153), Boston (3rd, 143) and Pittsburgh (5th-T, 141). Columbus is one of just seven teams to earn a playoff berth in each of the past three seasons.

CBJ THIS SEASON Columbus won seven of its final eight games to finish the regular season at 47-31-4 (98 pts.), where the 47 wins and 98 points were the second-most in franchise history (50-24-8, 108 pts. in 2016-17). The Jackets finished the season on a high note, winning their last five road games, the longest road win streak of the season. Their franchise-best 25 road wins were second-most in the NHL, behind only first-round opponent Tampa (30), and their 52 road points ranked second-T (TOR).

CANNONS A BLAZING The Jackets’ offense found their groove toward the end of the regular season, scoring four or more goals in six of their last eight games and outscoring opponents 34-14 in that span. CBJ scored four or more goals in 38 of their 82 games during the season (256 goals total, 3.12 avg.) setting a new franchise record for most goals in a single campaign (247 goals, 3.01 avg. in 2016-17).

CAREER YEARS Columbus had a few players record career years in 2018-19. Artemi Panarin set single-season franchise record in assists and points for the second-straight campaign with 28-59-87. Matt Duchene set a new single-season career high in goals (30, 2015-16) and tied his career high in points (70, 2013-14) with 31-39-70.
