Stamp to investigate the truth of the report. Capt. Stamp chose the head of the Alberni Canal, where Port Alberni now stands, as the most suitable place to erect a sawmill, not only on account of the timber but also because of its suitability as a shipping port to foreign markets. -

District of Metchosin Minutes Council Meeting December 10, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. Council Chamber Metchosin Municipal Hall ___________________________________ Present: Mayor Ranns in the Chair; Councillors Kahakauwila, MacKinnon, Epp and Little. Also present was L. Urlacher, CAO and T. Van Swieten, Deputy Corporate Officer The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. Closed Portion, Exclusion of the Public Moved and Seconded by Councillors Kahakauwila and MacKinnon that the public be excluded under section 90 of the Community Charter in order to consider: 1(a) Personal information about an identifiable individual who holds or is being considered for a position as an officer, employee or agent of the municipality or another position appointed by the municipality. (f)law enforcement, if the council considers that disclosure could reasonably be expected to harm the conduct of an investigation under or enforcement of an enactment; (g)litigation or potential litigation affecting the municipality. 2(b) the consideration of information received and held in confidence relating to negotiations between the municipality and a provincial government or the federal government or both, or between a provincial government or the federal government or both and a third party; Carried 1. Mayor Ranns stated that the Fire services Exemplary Service Medal, created on August 29, 1985, honours members of a recognized Canadian fire service who have completed 20 years of service, ten years of which have been served in the performance of duties involving potential risks, and were employed on or after the date of creation of the Medal. -

MEDIARELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE OCTOBER 5, 2020 TOURISM TOFINO WINS BIG AT COMMERCIAL BUILDING AWARDS NANAIMO, BC – The Vancouver Island Real Estate Board held its 13th annual Commercial Building Awards (CBAs) in a virtual format this year, with the winners announced in a video released on September 30. A near-record total of 43 projects from across Vancouver Island vied for the prestigious awards, which celebrate the best commercial, community, and industrial buildings north of the Malahat, completed between January 1 and December 31, 2019. Tourism Tofino was named the Judges’ Choice best overall entry. The project also received an Award of Excellence - Institutional.
