While growing into his new role, the shy and effeminate Ulysses is also dealing with questions about his gender identity. He finds an escape by creating a world of fantasy for himself, filled with glimpses of beauty, dance and music. Ulysses’ journey takes a turn when he encounters a vibrant transgender community, who take him to “Saturday Church,’ a program for LGBTQ youth. For weeks Ulysses manages to keep his two worlds apart; appeasing his Aunt’s desire to see him involved in her Church, while spending time with his new friends, finding out who he truly is and discovering his passion for the NYC ball scene and voguing. When maintaining a double life grows more difficult, Ulysses must find the courage to reveal what he has learned about himself while his fantasies begin to merge with his reality. *** DAMON CARDASIS, DIRECTOR STATEMENT My mother is an Episcopal Priest in The Bronx. -

P. T. Anderson‟S Dilemma: the Limits of Surrogate Paternity
CORE Metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk Provided by The University of Sydney: Sydney eScholarship Journals online Sydney Studies P.T. Anderson's Dilemma P. T. Anderson‟s Dilemma: the Limits of Surrogate Paternity JULIAN MURPHET A while ago now, Fredric Jameson located the Utopian dimension of Coppola‟s first Godfather film (1972) in „the fantasy message projected by the title of this film, that is, in the family itself, seen as a figure of collectivity and as the object of a Utopian longing‟.1 In a late-capitalist America beset by an irreversible „deterioration of the family, the growth of permissiveness, and the loss of authority of the father‟, Coppola‟s Sicilians „project an image of social reintegration by way of the patriarchal and authoritarian family of the past‟. (33) To be sure, the ethnic group may preserve within its anachronistic familial webs a relatively untarnished „Name of the Father‟, that can be trotted out for nostalgic wish-fulfilment on celluloid; but it goes without saying that commercial American cinema has always turned on the institution of the family, to the extent that „in a typical Hollywood product, everything, from the fate of the Knights of the Round Table through the October Revolution up to asteroids hitting the earth, is transposed into an Oedipal narrative‟. 2 Jameson‟s Utopian account of the „ineradicable drive towards collectivity‟ (34) betokened by the family drama in American mass culture surely overlooks that most stubborn obstacle to its realization, both within any given plot, and more practically in everyday life: namely, the father himself. -
Jamie Kennedy
JAMIE KENNEDY Jamie grew up in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, the son of a machinist and a paralegal, and the youngest of six children. He spent his formative years the same way as many children: being abused by nuns in Catholic school, tormenting his parents, and avoiding any thought of long-term goals. But when Jamie’s high school guidance counselor informed him that his grades, test scores and personality best suited him to a career of shoeing horses, he decided that the time had come to get serious about the future. He was going to move to Hollywood and become an actor. Honing his sKills on the comedy circuit, Jamie landed his big break being cast in Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Romeo + Juliet,’ alongside Leonardo DiCaprio as a punKed-out rival to John Leguizamo. His career soon KicKed into high gear as he co-starred in his breaKthrough performance as Randy MeeKs, the video store clerK well- versed in the conventions of scary movies, in Wes Craven’s ‘Scream’ and its follow-up ‘Scream 2.’ Since these early days, Jamie has worked alongside some of the biggest names in Hollywood. While doing what he does best alongside legendary comics such as Steve Martin in ‘Bowfinger,’ you see a harder side of Jamie Kennedy the actor as a street hustler who attacks Greg Kinnear in the Oscar-nominated ‘As Good As It Gets.’ Across his acting range, he always maintains his crafted ability to add much-needed comedy into dramas, seen in ‘The Three Kings’ with George Clooney, ‘The Boiler Room’ with Vin Diesel, and Tony Scott’s ‘Enemy of the State,’ playing a comedic techie in charge of protecting national security alongside Seth Green with Will Smith and Gene Hackman. -

FinalProject 25/08/2018, 930 PM COGS108 Final Project Group Members: Yanyi Wang Ziwen Zeng Lingfei Lu Yuhan Wang Yuqing Deng Introduction and Background Movie revenue is one of the most important measure of good and bad movies. Revenue is also the most important and intuitionistic feedback to producers, directors and actors. Therefore it is worth for us to put effort on analyzing what factors correlate to revenue, so that producers, directors and actors know how to get higher revenue on next movie by focusing on most correlated factors.
