GRILL 19 BY PROVISIONS March 28th, 2020, is another date you’ll want to save. This day begins early with the annual Breeze by the Bay 5K/10K Run at Salinas Park on Cape San Blas. Post race, stop in at St. Joseph Bay Golf Club and refuel with lunch at Grill 19 – the fried crawfish is a great way to start. After lunch, head to Reid Avenue in downtown Port St. Joe for the Blues on Reid music festival from Noon to 7:00pm. For the perfect snack between sets, enjoy freshly-shucked 8 MUST SEE oysters just down the street at Indian Pass Uptown Raw Bar & Grill. Finally, finish off the evening at the 2020 Plein Air Invitational Collector’s Gala & Small Painting Reveal – also held on Reid Avenue at The Joe Center for the Arts – from 7:00 to 10:00pm. BLUES ON REID Back in Apalachicola, Saturday, May 2nd is another big day. The Historic Apalachicola Home & Garden Tour starts that morning, and includes a fund-raising luncheon at Benedict Hall. As the tour concludes, the Owl Cafe’s Tap Room opens. It’s an ideal destination for tour-weary travelers to get off their feet, satisfy their appetites, and quench their thirst with local Oyster City Brewing Company beers on tap. A little “liquid courage” might come in handy later that evening during the Chestnut Street Cemetery Ghost Walk – hosted by the Apalachicola Area Historical Society – from 6:30 to 8:30pm. After dinner, enjoy live music and savor a sunset cocktail at the Lookout Lounge. A day spent exploring Cape San Blas and the St. Joseph Peninsula is always time well spent. Plan for an adventure in the great outdoors, and begin with stops at Beach Planet and Scallop Cove Bait & Tackle. After golf, cruise the scenic Franklin County coastline from Carrabelle to Apalachicola. Then, follow the river to Up The Creek Raw Bar. The views from the Wildlife Observation Deck are incredible, and the food’s not too shabby, either. From there, meander to the heart of downtown Apalachicola for a visit to the Oyster City Brewing Company. You can sample new recipes and seasonal brews, and take home cans or growlers of your favorites. Cap off the day with live entertainment at the High Five Dive Bar (formerly Bowery Station), Apalachicola Ice Company, or, if you plan things right, a show at the Dixie Theatre. CAPE SAN BLAS LIGHTHOUSE & KEEPER’S QUARTERS In downtown Port St. Joe, you can make a day of it without ever returning to the car! Leave your wheels in the public lot on Williams Avenue, then make your way to the Sand Dollar Cafe for breakfast. Travel & Leisure named it one of the nation’s Top 10 comfort food destinations. Just a few steps away, across Highway 98, is George Core Park, the new home of the Cape San Blas Lighthouse and Keeper’s Quarters. You can climb the 98-foot tall tower and learn the beacon’s fascinating history. The Gulf County Welcome Center is just a block away on the bayfront, and is filled with information on local attractions. For lunch, it’s back across Highway 98 to Provisions. This popular Reid Avenue eatery is known for outstanding salads and delicious daily specials. It’s the perfect starting point for a downtown shopping excursion, too.
