Cricket! West Indies v England 2014 From 28 February to 13 March 2014, enjoy cricket in Antigua and Barbados with West Indies v England 2014. Three one-day internationals and 3 Twenty20 match series to be played in Antigua and Barbados. England has not visited the Caribbean to play the West Indies since 2009, as such there is a real sense of excitement and anticipation for this upcoming ODI and T20 series. England’s 2014 Tour of the West Indies looks like it will be a classic match between two of the greatest cricketing teams. Twenty20 Worldcup Cricket 2010 Match Schedule | Fixtures The 2010 ICC World Twenty20 will be held in the West Indies schedule to begin from April 30 and it runs till May 16 for about 17 days, all the total of 27 matches. Although the tournament is held every two years beginning in 2007, the scheduled ICC Champions Trophy one-day international tournament to be held in the West Indies in 2010 has been revised to a Twenty20 format because the 2008 Champions Trophy tournament in Pakistan was postponed due to security concerns and a need to correct the international cricketing tournament calendar.This ICC World Twenty20 will be taking place only 10 months after the last one. As before, the tournament will feature 12 teams – the Test-playing nations and two qualifiers. Matches will be played at four grounds–Barbados, Guyana, St.Lucia and St.Kitts & Nevis. The tournament will be organised in parallel with the women's tournament, with the men's semi-finals and final being preceded by the semi-finals and final from the women's event. This time Zimbabwe will also have their comeback since they were not playing in England on 2009. The series will be played in same format as in 2009 T20 World Cup. The finals on May 16 2010 will be hosted by Barbados. ICC announces the Grouping and the venue to be used for ICC World twenty20 2010. Twenty20 World champions Pakistan is grouped with Australia and Bangladesh in Group A. Pakistan will start their title defense with the game against Bangladesh on May 1st 2010.

PCB Highlights 1 January – 31 July Stepping up to the fore in the ICC • PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani was reappointed in the prestigious role of Chairperson of the ICC’s Financial and Commercial Affairs Committee (F&CA) after 17 years. He is the only Pakistani to chair one of the ICC’s most important and influential committees. No other Pakistani has ever served on this commitee • Ehsan Mani, during his previous term as ICC F&CA Chairman, was instrumental in commercialising international cricket in 2000 by leading ICC to sign its first-ever commercial deal worth $550m; this was followed by a second deal in 2006 worth over $1.1bn, in which he played the lead role • Pakistan Cricket Board Managing Director Wasim Khan was appointed as a full-member CEO of the ICC Women’s Cricket Committee. • Sana Mir was included into ICC Women’s Committee as one of the three current player representatives. • PCB General Counsel, Barrister Salman Naseer, has been included in the ICC’s Safeguarding Panel • The PCB’s revamped Media, Communications and Digital department joined the ICC in the celebration of the launch of the World Test Championship and organised a fan poll to select the greatest Test match in the country’s history to date and also paid a tribute to all 236 Test cricketers. Much like the UN, the ICC brings representatives from all cricket-playing countries together to make administrative decisions about the future of cricket. Unlike the UN, however, not all countries have an equal input; the ICC decides which members are worthy of “Test” status (Full Members), and which are not (Associate Members). While the Council has experienced many successes, including hosting the prestigious World Cup and promoting cricket at a grassroots level, it also continues to receive its fair share of criticism, predominantly regarding the ICC’s perceived obstruction of the growth of the game within non- traditionally cricketing nations and prioritizing the commercialization of the sport over globalizing it.

Cricket as a Diasporic Resource for Caribbean-Canadians by Janelle Beatrice Joseph A thesis submitted in conformity with the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Graduate Department of Exercise Sciences University of Toronto © Janelle Beatrice Joseph 2010 Cricket as a Diasporic Resource for Caribbean-Canadians Janelle Beatrice Joseph Doctor of Philosophy Graduate Department of Exercise Sciences University of Toronto 2010 Abstract The diasporic resources and transnational flows of the Black diaspora have increasingly been of concern to scholars. However, the making of the Black diaspora in Canada has often been overlooked, and the use of sport to connect migrants to the homeland has been virtually ignored. This study uses African, Black and Caribbean diaspora lenses to examine the ways that first generation Caribbean-Canadians use cricket to maintain their association with people, places, spaces, and memories of home. In this multi-sited ethnography I examine a group I call the Mavericks Cricket and Social Club (MCSC), an assembly of first generation migrants from the Anglo-Caribbean. My objective to “follow the people” took me to parties, fundraising dances, banquets, and cricket games throughout the Greater Toronto Area on weekends from early May to late September in 2008 and 2009. I also traveled with approximately 30 MCSC members to observe and participate in tours and tournaments in Barbados, England, and St. Lucia and conducted 29 in- depth, semi-structured interviews with male players and male and female supporters. I found that the Caribbean diaspora is maintained through liming (hanging out) at cricket matches and social events. Speaking in their native Patois language, eating traditional Caribbean foods, and consuming alcohol are significant means of creating spaces in which Caribbean- Canadians can network with other members of the diaspora.

I played the game in Elementary and Secondary School, and represented The Leeward Islands’ Teachers’ Training College on its cricket team in contests against various clubs from 1964 to 1966. My playing days ended after I moved away from St Catharines, Ontario, Canada, where I represented Ridley Cricket Club against teams as distant as 100 miles away. The faculty at the University of Texas at Arlington has been a source of inspiration to me during my tenure there. Alusine Jalloh, my Dissertation Committee Chairman, challenged me to look beyond my pre-set Master’s Degree horizon during our initial conversation in 2000.
