FROM THE PRESIDENT

Boy doesn't time fly by. All ready we are starting the month of May and the weather has been so- so; good days and cold days with a little wind thrown in for good m easure. We've had some great rides though. If you missed the one called Bitter Water a 73 mile ride from Shandon through the San Andreas fault and Shell Creek Road, you missed a beautiful ride. We had some headwinds and some good sized water puddles (after the rains) to cross, but at the end of the day it was well worth it. Thank you, ride leader, Tom Murphy.

Although we are still short on ride leaders we seem to be getting rides out. Come on guys! Sign-up and lead a ride that you would like to do. It can be 15 to 30 miles or longer. You just need to decide where you want to go. The days are get- ting longer, the rains have stopped and there are no excuses. The Spring Choo Choo ride had to be cancelled due to a problem with Amtrak. Time conflicts did not allow us to re- schedule this one. I know many of you were disappointed but there will be another one scheduled in September. This is another beautiful ride that everyone seems to look forward to and enjoy.especially taking the train back home. It gives us all a time to relax and enjoy each other’s company.

Get the word out that the Windmill is coming July 16th. All the busy bees or Captains are getting everything ready and we are expecting a great turn out this year. If you would like to help out with this club fund raiser contact Tom Murphy, Windmill Coordinator, and he will find a spot for you. There are lots of things to be done before and during this event so be sure to sign up.

Don't forget to support the Wheelin’ Warriors as they hold their fund-raising barbecue on the day of the Amgen Solvang time trial. The Amgen riders will be passing through, on this private ranch road, and the ranch owner has allowed the WW to hold a BBQ there, selling tri tip sandwiches, etc, as a fund raiser for their group. Spectators will have a great view of the racers as they go by while munching on a great Tom Juarez/ Cheryl Dettrick BBQ tri-tip sandwich. Parking avail- able on the long driveway. The cost is as follows:$10.00 park only. $20.00 Park and tri-tip sandwich/ drink. All dona- tions go to the Wheelin’ Warriors. The Wheelin’ Warriors and their families park and eat for free. Don’t forget to bring lawn chairs and hats and get there before 10 AM to get a good spot. There will be Rest rooms on site. See Cheryl Dettrick for more information and/or to get a parking space or viewing point on top of the hill.

The way time is flying by and summer will be upon us in no time. So get yourself in bicycle shape by riding hard and often. Chuy and I will be looking for you on the road and with the “Pack”.

David Cantero

THE OLD CREEK RIDE….MARCH 5, 2011

Here's a few shots taken from today's tough but fun ride up old Creek Road...... Tom McCullough, & Steve Powers had already gone by....I forgot I had my camera with me..... Pictured in the background is Morro Rock, then Jim Rainville, Joe, Janelle and Trish coming down High way 46.We all rode to the top of Old Creek Road then across to Santa Rosa Creek Road. Steve, Tom and I made it to the top then turned around and regrouped to ride down High way 46 as they were pretty well done in at that point and ready to have lunch. Steve Powers rode like Alberto Contador the whole way...... ! They all agreed it was a tough ride but was well worth it. I will reschedule the ride for some time in May so those that missed it can have a chance at it and riders today want to do it again...... Victor (Cabatuan)

We (Steve and Maia Lewis) are planning on doing a fund raising ride north of San Francisco for a Jewish organization called Hazon.
