All lineages are morphologically diagnosable, but one pair exhibits such morphological overlap that they can be considered cryptic. -

Most will be lists providing NZTCS status of members of a plant or animal group (e.g. algae, birds, spiders). There are currently 23 groups, each assessed once every 5 years. After each five-year cycle there will be a report analysing and summarising trends across all groups for that listing cycle. From time to time the manual that defines the categories, criteria and process for the NZTCS will be reviewed. A key to all species as well as descriptions, illustrations and comments on recognition, distribution and habitat of the recognized species are provided. One new species, R. renneri, is described and illustrated. Radula longiloba, R. punctata and R. xalapensis are new records for Brazil whereas the occurrence of R. pseudostachya and R. subinflata in Brazil is confirmed. Radula elliottii, R. varilobula and R. wrightii are excluded from the country and R. marginata, R. microloba and R. saccatiloba are doubtful records. The low-diversity community lived in an unusual cold-water setting, dominated by anoxic bottom waters, in the immediate aftermath of the Hirnantian glaciation. Giant conodonts represented by complete tooth sets, and one with trunk musculature and liver preserved, unarmoured jawless fish, lobopods and enigmatic taxa are some of the more important fossils. Furthermore, this Lagerstätte also preserves biomineralized Ordovician taxa such as brachiopods, orthoconic nautiloids and trilobites. It is important in capturing the only known examples of many taxa, extending temporal ranges of others and providing a unique glimpse of a post-glacial refugium, at a time when other Lagerstätten are unknown. Distinct from other late Carboniferous concretionary Lagerstätten because of the remarkable fidelity of soft tissues and pigments that are frequently preserved, the Mazon Creek has seen a revival in investigations during the last 10 years using modern palaeontological techniques. However, many of these modern investigations build upon a literature that incorrectly interprets the palaeoenvironment of the Mazon Creek and the separate biotas: there is a lack of evidence to support a distinct freshwater fauna. Here, we present a detailed overview of the Mazon Creek Lagerstätte, including the palaeoenvironmental conditions, organisms present and the complex taphonomic processes involved in fossil formation. Investigation into the formation of siderite concretions and the complex taphonomic processes controlling soft-bodied preservation are still continuing but are reviewed in detail. This species is distinctive in 1) the presence of dimorphic leaf lobules that are subrhombic and strongly reflexed on pendulous shoots, subquadrate and not reflexed on creeping shoots; 2) leaf lobules covering the stem ca. 1/3-1/2 of the stem- width, not auriculate at base, and 3) leaf cells thin walled with indistinct trigones and smooth cell surface. Our phylogenetic analyses based on three chloroplast regions (trnG, trnL-F, atpB-rbcL) confirm that this new species belongs to subg. Radula and is sister to R. decurrens Mitt. known from Fiji. -
