2Color Brioche Rib Knitting Tips & Tricks Where Am I: ● The color last worked is the color of the yarn forwards which appear as cross overs. This will help in determining the next row and whether to slide your stitches or not. ● If you've lost your place and the former rows color still doesn't help, tink back 3 or 4 stitches on the last row and you'll see where you ended. Since these 4 rows are entirely different (color as well as BRK or BRP) you'll easily identify where you let off. The Stitch Pattern ● Think of the row sequence as somewhat of a sandwich Brioche purl rows sandwiched between the Brioche knits Row 1: BRK Row Row 2: BRP Row Row 3: BRP Row Row 4: BRK Row ● The stitch count will will jog back and forth on the 4 row sequence: Row 1A 57 stitches Row 1B 58 stitches Row 2A 57 stitches Row 2B 58 stitches ● At the end of each row you will either slide or turn. Row 1A SLIDE Row 1B TURN Row 2A SLIDE Row 2B TURN Brioche Knitting Tips and Tricks ● The Brioche Ribbing will not show prominently until you are several rows into the project. Expect this and continue working the rows It won't take long. ● The BRK and BRP stitches will always be comprised (in 2 color projects) of 1 strand of each color. ● At the beginning and end of the rows, it's ok to gently snug up the end loops from the previous row, but do not draw tightly. The subsequent rows will take care of that. ● Resist the urge to stress about untidy selvedge edges. They won't look well behaved until a bit later along in the project and really pretty after blocking. ● The right side's 1st stitch will always be much tighter than the other no matter how loosely you work the beginning stitch on prior rows. You'll see and feel it on Row 1B. This is entirely normal. ● No need to twist the color strands when changing colors as you do when carrying yarn. Just make sure the new color is in the back and let the former color hang in front. This makes for a tidier edge. ● The stitches that are slipped should be the color of the yarn worked on the prior row. If it isn't go back and count to make sure you haven't missed working a stitch. ● Be sure to make your yarn forwards (aka yarnovers) AFTER the slipped stitch on the BRP rows. If you've knitted for any amount of time you will be prone to making the yarn forwards before the slipped stitches, so these yarn forwards will be different. Troubleshooting and Fixing Mistakes: Errors in Brioche are immediately recognizable and fixable. Catch and fix them (by tinking back). ● Eyeball your row when finished. Make sure you have cross over strands (look like x's) and not horizontal strands. Look at the reverse side as well. If you see this you've missed a yarn forward ● Counting your stitches at the end of the row will ensure you haven't missed working a stitch or yarnforward. You'll find the numbers above listed under "The Stitch Pattern". ● Row appearance indicates a break in the ribbing. This is caused by an incorrect row being worked.
