Since the high school routines are entirely new to them, the freshmen follow the examples set by the upperclassmen. At the begin ning of the year, the freshmen start to develop the pattern of their high school life. Throughout the year, they become more and more familiar with high school both academically and socially. As a result, next year they will begin to be leaders. With a great deal of enthusiasm and ingenuity, this year's freshmen class selected the theme, "Let's crown Leo!" for their float in the Homecoming parade and captured first prize. This will certainly be a treasured part of their high school life pattern. May all their later projects be as sucessful! I am honored to have become a part of the proud tradition of academic excellence and accessibility that Metro State has established. It is significant that as you complete your education at Metro State, the College is in the midst of its 40th anniversary, a cause for reflection on where we began and optimism for what we can become. Starting from very humble beginnings in 1965, Metro State now boasts more than 56,300 graduates and 22,000 current students, all of whom, through their tenacity, energy and intelligence, are helping put Metro State on the map. Here are but a few examples of their achievements: • Bill Pickle, who graduated in 1975, is the U.S. Senate Sergeant-at-Arms. As such, he oversees the operation of the Senate and 900 employees. • Lori Beckman, class of 1985, is director of security for Denver International Airport and is responsible for the access and security of the terminal, airfield and surrounding 34,000 acres.

What a wonderful service made possible by Pastor Layman, a dedicated team of volunteers and all attendees. Glory be to God! Please plan to attend our Sunday July 4th Special Independence Day Service at 10:00am led by Glenn Ulman. If attending Car Church, you are encouraged to come inside to experience the full effect of this Service to worship God and celebrate our freedoms. Bring a friend! The "re-opening" of Christ Community Church is well underway with the cautious relaxation of pandemic safety precautions. Hymnals and bibles have been returned to the pews, our wonderful choir is singing again and after Service refreshments have resumed. Fellowship is indeed thriving again at Christ Community Church. Our Audio-Visual Modernization Project was approved by the Governing Council with continuing congregational voting pending. This project will replace outdated and sometimes poorly performing existing equipment, add new audio and visual capabilities such as two Sanctuary monitors, include a special and improved electronic component for the hearing impaired and much much more.

The teachers hring us knowledge of academic subjects through their excellent classroom instruction. However, the faculty also hring us an understanding of people through their advice and counseling. Our faculty members are always willing to help us in our club work and in directing our student government. Bexley High School's faculty are constantly trying to improve their teaching methods to help maintain the high scholastic standards of our school. Since our school is growing every year, the faculty must also ex pand, and the teachers who have joined the staff are upholding our tradi tion of having the best teachers. Everyone realizes that no student at our school could grow in academic and worldly knowledge without the assistance of our excellent faculty, and it is because of this fact that we point witli pride to our teachers, who have steadily improved their quality of instruction during the twenty-ftve years in which this building has been our school home.

REPRESENTATIONS OF AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN ON REALITY TELEVISION AFTER THE GREAT RECESSION by STEVEN K. HERRO Under the Direction of Marian Meyers, Ph.D. ABSTRACT This project is animated by two related probLems. First, there are reLativeLy few studies of the ways that African American women are represented on reaLity teLevision. Second, the current Literature about representations of BLack women on reality television compLetely ignores the Great Recession as an important contextual factor. In this study, I pair the Constant Comparative Method of textuaL anaLysis with discourse analysis to answer the question: “How does reaLity teLevision represent African American women in terms of gender, race, and cLass in the context of the aftermath of the Great Recession?” I closeLy anaLyzed reaLity teLevision programs with the highest ratings in 2012: The Voice, American Idol, Survivor, The Biggest Loser, and The Real Housewives of Atlanta. To better understand how Black wom- en are represented on these shows, I contextualize my analysis in terms of intersectionality, post-racism, post-sexism, and neoLiberaLism.
