Independence Day Speech – 4 A spectacular good morning to all. I deem it a privilege to express my utmost respects for my Nation on this Independence Day. Happy Independence Day my speech is about My Nation. Let me start it with our National Flag. 1. National Flag: Flag is a symbol of a free country. Flag is a necessity for all Nations. As Nehru said “Flag is a symbol of freedom to all people”. Millions have died for our National Flag. It was designed based on the Swaraj flag by Pingali Venkaya Garu. Indian flag was adopted on 22 July 1947 in the constituent assembly. The term ‘Tri-colour’ refers to Indian National Flag. It is horizontal its ratio of length and width is 3:2; it is with three colours in equal proportion. It has deep saffron, Kesari colour at the top indicating the strength of the country. It has white colour in the middle indicating peace and truth, it also has Dharma Chakra which intends to show that there is life in movement and death in stagnation. The Dharma Chakra is in navy blue colour representing the sky and the sea. It is taken from the abacus of Sarnath lion capital of Ashoka. It has 24 spokes. Which represent Courage, Love, Patience, Peacefulness, Magnanimity, Goodness, Faithfulness Selflessness, Gentleness, Self-Control, Self-Sacrifice, Truthfulness, Righteousness, Justice, Mercy, Gracefulness, Humility, Empathy, Sympathy, Spiritual Knowledge, Moral Valves, Spiritual Wisdom, The Fear Of God and Faith. Dark green at the bottom indicates fertility, growth and auspiciousness of the land. The flag must be made of Kadhi. The first stamp of Independent India had the image of our National Flag and was released on 21 Nov 1949 and it was meant for foreign correspondence. Our flag was first hoisted on Mount Everest in 1953 by Tenzing Norgay. Our flag flew into space for the first time in 1984 by Rakesh Sharma. A world record was made by creating the largest human flag which involved 50,000 volunteers in Chennai in Dec 2014. Independence Day Speech – 4 2. National Song: Our National song is Vande Mataram. It was taken from the novel Anandmath in 1882 written by Bankim Chandra Chatterji. Vande Mataram was the greatest inspiration for our Indians during freedom struggle. It was sung by Rabindranath Tagore for the first time in 1896 session of Indian National congress. The music for the Vande Mataram song was composed by Jadunath Battacharya. It was initially written in Sanskrit and Bengali and it was translated into English by Arabindo. Vande Mataram song was composed in over 100 different forms. The most popular one is the one composed by A.R. Rehaman in 1997 on the occasion of 50th Independence anniversary of India. 3. National Anthem: Our National Anthem is Jana Gana Mana. It is sung to drive patriotism, pride and respect towards our Nation. It binds the whole Nation into a single thread of unity and Nationalism. It is also the way to pay tribute to our great freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. National Anthem was first written in Bengali by Rabindranath Tagore, the music for the song was also composed by Tagore itself. It was adopted in its Hindi version in constituent assembly as our National Anthem on 24 Jan 1950. The English version of our National Anthem was composed by Tagore in Madanapalle in Andhra Pradesh at Besant Theosophical College. It was translated into Hindi and Urdu by Abid Ali. It should be sung in 52 sec. Independence Day Speech – 4 4. National Pledge: Our National Pledge is an oath of commitment for a superior cause for all the citizens of India. It was initially composed in Telugu by Pydimarri Venkata Subba Rao in 1962 and later it was translated in every Indian language. It was first presented in a school in Visakhapatnam in 1963. Our National Pledge is at par with National Anthem and National Song but it is not adopted by the constitution of India. 5. National Emblem: Our National Emblem includes 4 lions standing back to back symbolizing Power, Pride, Courage and Confidence. It is adopted from the Ashoka’s lion capital in Sarnath. Below the lions a galloping horse and a bull are separated by a wheel Dharma Chakra. Below it is written Satyamevajayathe, which means Truth alone Triumps. The quote is taken from Mundaka Upanishad in Devanagiri script. 6. Other National Symbols: Our National animal is Tiger, it symbolizes power. Our National flower is Lotus, it symbolizes purity. Our National tree is Banyan, it symbolizes immortality. Our National bird is Peacock, it symbolizes elegance. Our National fruit is Mango, it symbolizes tropical climate of India. Our National game is Hokey and it was at its peak when it was adopted as the National game of India. The uniqueness of our Sub-Continent lies in its diversity. Its vivid range of flora and fauna. We have over 400 wild life sanctuaries, 99 parks. India is a natural home for over 350 spices of mammals, 2100 varieties of birds 350 varities of reptiles and countless insects. Independence Day Speech – 4 India is a cradle of human race. India is the birth place of human speech. India is the mother of history. India is the grandmother of legends. India is the great grandmother of traditions. I feel proud to be an Indian. I feel proud to speak about my Nation. Happy Independence Day. Thank you. .
