This was recognised by the award of three stars - the highest available score - in the national NHS performance ratings in July 2003 (based upon 2002/03 performance) and by outstanding attainments in the latest survey of NHS Trusts carried out by ‘Dr Foster’, an independent health research organisation, which looks particularly at the quality of services provided. Airedale has retained its position as the best performing Trust in the Northern & Yorkshire region, it was again in the top ten nationally, and it was the best in the country in terms of patient satisfaction. And all this was achieved with clinical staffing levels (doctors and nurses) that are amongst the lowest in the country. On the minus side, the Trust failed to achieve financial balance in 2003/04. This came as no surprise to the Trust Board because we have had an underlying recurrent deficit for the last few years.

The garden, awarded a silver medal by RHS Chelsea judges, was designed by Leeds-based Tracy Foster and made with 30 tonnes of Yorkshire stone, sand and pebbles. And today original Calendar Girls Tricia Stewart (Miss October) and Ros Fawcett (Miss November) took centre stage in the garden alongside the stage stars of The Girls West End musical, Claire Machin, Debbie Chazen and Sophie-Louise Dann. It’s 1968. Rita lives in Dagenham and, like many local women, she works at the Ford plant stitching together seat covers. Its intricate work carried out in sweltering conditions, for long arduous hours which they must balance with their domestic lives, the women at the Ford Dagenham plant finally lose their patience when they are reclassified as “unskilled”. With humour, common sense and courage they take on their corporate paymasters, an increasingly belligerent local community, and finally the government itself.     Providence Players of Fairfax – AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT Calendar Girls By Tim Firth Directed by Michael Donahue In this delightful comedy, Annie and her best friend Chris belong to the Women’s institute – a do-good organization in the heart of Yorkshire. When a member’s husband dies of leukemia, the best friends resolve to raise funds, but donations are tight. They persuade fellow Institute members to pose for an “alternative” calendar that attracts media, fame and funds. Based on a true story, Calendar Girls is an uplifting, feel-good story of friendship, ingenuity and triumph. Later made into a popular film, Calendar Girls received the British Comedy Award for Best Comedy and several Golden Globe nominations.
