My favorite is the Model 1892 lever rifle, and it was with great re- gret that I learned of the dis- continuance of this once so popular model. In fifty years of experience as a cowboy, profes- sional hunter, and trapper, I have worn out many rifles, but as long as one of the old Mod- el 1892 remains, or parts are obtainable for them, I'll be us- ing one. In the old .25-20 cal- iber, with the orginal 24" bar- rel cut off four inches, this is the most accurate, sweet-shoot- ing rifle I have ever handled. It is still being used on my daily trap line in New Mexico. I could write reams and reams about this old gun, but reckon most of it would be laughed at by the moderns. Nevertheless, the old '92 is still my favorite. FAVORITE VERSATILITY , QUICKLY DETACiiuu. • International Military Cartridge Rifles and Bayonets
INTERNATIONAL MILITARY CARTRIDGE RIFLES AND BAYONETS The following table lists the most common international military rifles, their chambering, along with the most common bayonet types used with each. This list is not exhaustive, but is intended as a quick reference that covers the types most commonly encountered by today’s collectors. A Note Regarding Nomenclature: The blade configuration is listed, in parentheses, following the type. There is no precise dividing line between what blade length constitutes a knife bayonet vs. a sword bayonet. Blades 10-inches or shorter are typically considered knife bayonets. Blades over 12-inches are typically considered sword bayonets. Within the 10-12 inch range, terms are not consistently applied. For purposes of this chart, I have designated any blade over 12 inches as a sword bayonet. • HOW to LOAD COWBOY FAST DRAW CARTRIDGES By: Cal Eilrich A.K.A
HOW TO LOAD COWBOY FAST DRAW CARTRIDGES By: Cal Eilrich a.k.a. Quick Cal, Executive Director CFDA Revised: November 27th, 2016 In 2007, we began researching various methods used to load Cowboy Fast Draw Cartridges for CFDA Titled Championship events. Everyone seemed to have their own formula. Some loaded them by hand and some loaded them on progressive loading presses. We found a wide variety of results, some even within the same tournament in which there was found 300+ (fps) variations in velocities. This meant that championships could have been decided because of ammunition variations of as much as 2 hundredths of a second (.020), which is a huge amount of time in Cowboy Fast Draw. We simply had to do better. In reality there will always be some variations in velocities even in factory live ammunition, at 15 – 20 fps. Bullseye shooters use techniques such as matched brass, matched bullets and a trickle powder charge to get it tighter than that. We also have to keep in mind that wax bullets, due to density variances, can never be manufactured and sized as exact as lead or jacketed bullets can be. After extensive testing, we have found that it is possible to reduce the velocity variances to around 30 – 40 fps, which only amounts to a few thousandths of a second. This is true with both CFD Cartridges and Shotgun Primer Loads. This article is about addressing, not only various components, but also loading techniques, and the best equipment used to load them. • Brass • Brass is the first step in producing consistent cartridges, make sure that you tumble them thoroughly, before removing the primers.
