Winter Edition | 2014 THE BELVEDERE NEWS AMDG IN THIS ISSUE A WORD FROM THE HEADMASTER BELVEDERE BEAT (1-9) I hope you enjoy the Newsletter. I want to thank the editorial team of Anne Bacon, Maressa O’Brien-Raleigh and all who contributed for their hard work and commitment. I also want to thank Trevor Dunne, for designing the Newsletter, Christmas card and ecard. Thanks also to Michael Marangos who filmed the Carol Service, to the Choir led by Ruaidhrí Ó Dálaigh and Frances Stoker Phelan, Choir Directors, and to Louise Curtin, Daniel FEATURES (10-16) Dunne and Emily White who accompanied the students in the Carol Service. The world has changed and there are significant improvements and yet new horrors. Generations in one hundred years will look back on our society and wonder why we tolerated injustice. Did we not learn the lesson that Alfred Anderson PARENTS ASSOCIATION (20) learned, that prejudice and discrimination are the consequence of fear and ignorance? The pages that follow will hopefully bear witness to an education that challenges injustice and nurtures in our students a passion to bring about a more just society. “Act as if everything depended on you; trust as if everything depended on God.” - Ignatius of Loyola BELVEDERE BEAT THE DRAMATIC SOCIETY PRESENTS - THE SENIOR MUSICAL - SPAMALOT 2 SPAMALOT It seemed like an exciting challenge last May when we were granted the rights to perform Spamalot, the musical lovingly ripped off from Monty Python and the Holy Grail! BELVEDERE BEAT MY LOURDES MIRACLE 4 It is with a nostalgic feeling that I have succumbed to writing this article, looking back on what was the most defining week of my life in terms of how I want to live it. However, this is a fantastic platform for me to express my utter gratitude to all involved for making that week so memorable, most notable of which are the Belvedere group I was so privileged to have travelled with, Alex, Andrew, Thomas, Ed, Conor M., Conor D., Cormac, Jack, Geoff, Mr Eoghan Keogh, Terry McMullan and Bro.
