Time Guardian Music Credits Music Allan Zavod Music Mixer Peter Smith Music Recorded at Music and Effects Sound Laboratory 'This Time I Know' Music Allan Zavod Robert Martin Lyrics Robert Martin Produced by Allan Zavod Sung by Angry Anderson Courtesy of Mushroom Records 'Angry' Anderson, front singer for hard-rocking Rose Tattoo since 1976, is too well known to detail at length here. At time of writing, Anderson had his own website here, and a relatively detailed wiki here, which includes many links, details of his personal life, and his eccentric views, which led to an attempt at a political career. Lyrics for the song, which ironically, in view of Rose Tattoo's music, is a synth power ballad in the 1980s romantic style: (after opening guitar flourish) Every time that I fell before Reason and rhyme were a tight closed door Every time that I thought I knew I never took the time to think it through I never stopped to realise You'll never see If you close your eyes … to the world around you … This time I know That our love's no mystery This time I know That the things I love, in you … Are the things I love, in me … Most people say love's a mystery No heart has to take what your mind won't see Everything learned, anything at all Has to be earned while you're standing tall The highest love you ever mined Lives in your heart, but was born in your mind But you love … It was worth your love ... This time I know That the things I love, in you ... Are the things I love, in me … (saxophone solo) The highest love you'll ever find Lives in your heart, but was born in your mind When you know it was worth your love This time I know That our love's no mystery This time I know That the things I love … in you ... Are the things I love … in me … (guitar solo at end) Composer Allan Zavod: At one time, Allan Zavod's web site could only be found at the Wayback Machine here, but it has now returned as an eponymous site here. Zavod's wiki, here, replicates much of the information on his website. Googling his name also produces much information, performances on YouTube, etc. Zavod's website provided this CV up to 2001, and a credit listing: Often described as a keyboard wizard Allan Zavod a graduate of Melbourne Conservatorium was discovered by Duke Ellington who after hearing him playing jazz piano arranged for him to study at Berklee School of Music where he later held a post as professor of music. Based in the USA for 20 years he played, recorded and toured with many music greats including Glen Miller Orchestra, Woody Herman Orchestra, Maynard Ferguson Big Band, Cab Calloway, Jean Luc-Ponty and George Benson, culminating in a 1984 world tour with the legendary Frank Zappa. Americaʼs music bible "Downbeat Magazine" named Zavod one of the USAʼs Top 10 Keyboardists of the 80ʼs. He has received grants and commissions to compose, orchestrate and perform original works throughout the world. Representing Australia in 1987 he won the Asia Broadcasting Union Popular Song Contest in Kuala Lumper viewed by an audience exceeding 800 million. In 1988 the Australia Council commissioned him to compose "Concerto Australiana" a classical/jazz fusion three movement work for piano, orchestra and jazz ensemble which was performed at the Bicentennial Australia Day Celebrations, live on ABC television at the Sydney Opera House. As a teenager in 1968 he performed for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth at Government House and in 1988 performed a work for piano and jazz choir before H.R.H Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana for the Melbourne Youth Music Council. Shortly thereafter there was an Australian Girls Choir commission for a jazz work and a composition for the Victorian Youth Symphonic Band. 4 further sell out performances in 2001 at the SYdney Opera House with the prestigious Sydney Symphony Orchestra. A tour of the work with major European & Chinese orchestras featuring James & Allan is planned for 2002 to include an April performance in Munich with the Munich Symphony. In 1996 Zavod composed a stirring sound scape for the stage adaption of J.R.R Tolkienʼs "The Hobbit" which enjoyed huge success throughout Australia then and again in 1999. An American tour is in place for 2001. As a film composer Allan has scored over 30 films for American and Australian film and television including a US film score with famed guitarist Eric Clapton, an award winning childrenʼs film for "Shines" director Scott Hicks and the long running series "A Country Practice". Concert performances for past and present Prime Ministers and Heads of state; Government depts. (including Australia Post – "Faces of Australia), Sydney Olympics 2000 (performed original composition for International Olympic Committee), fund raisers for the Dalai Lama and other charities; producing and music directing here and over seas for popular artists as well as Network Tenʼs "Good Morning Australia"; monthly writing for national music magazine "Australian Musician" occupies Zavodʼs time annually. Further commissions for 2001/2 will see Allan Zavod compose major orchestral works to include a trombone concerto for soloist James Morrison (Australia Council grant) to be performed with the Australian Youth Orchestra and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in 2002. Allan recently received an award from the Australian Composers Guild in recognition of his work in Jazz/Classical composition for which he is considered to be at the forefront. He has recently composed a Walt Disney production having just completed a short tour with ex-Hot Chocolate Emmy award winning jazz saxophonist John Altman. Just back from performing in Hawaii with old friend George Benson, Zavod recently performed Rhapsody in Blue at the Melbourne Concert Hall and Sydney Opera House with the Australian Pops Orchestra. In December 2001 Allan will perform an all Gershwin concert in Florida on the new Blue Steinway piano called "Rhapsody" built in honour of George Gershwin to celebrate 100 years of Steinway. • Rose Tattoo: Una Banda De Culte

  • Angry Anderson
Angry Anderson Rock singer, actor, youth worker and aspiring politician Tattoo-covered rock legend Angry Anderson has had more than 45 years’ experience in the entertainment industry, most of those as the charismatic front man for the hard rock band Rose Tattoo. But these days, Angry is just as well known for his inspiring charity work and strong social conscience and, more recently, for his political aspirations. When Angry joined The Midday Show in 1987 he brought with him a refreshing and perhaps unexpected insight into the pressures, loves, hates and attitudes of Australia’s youth. His commitment to youth was underlined by his frontline involvement with 1988’s ‘Project Homefree’, a scheme to help runaways get home free of charge from around the country. Over the years, Angry Anderson, a devoted father of four, has proved himself to be a tireless worker for the many charities he supports. They include the Prince Of Wales Children’s Hospital, Camperdown Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House and Bear Cottage as well as the Odyssey House drug rehabilitation program and Oasis, the Salvation Army Centre for street kids. Angry has also supported Cancer Research, Canteen, Camp Quality, N.A.P.C.A.N, Amnesty, Refugee Week, Greenpeace, The Starlight Foundation, and the Make A Wish Foundation. On Australia Day 1993, Angry Anderson was made a Member of the Order of Australia for his role as a youth advocate. He’s been an Australia Day Ambassador, spent two years as President of Children’s Week and been a Director on the board of the Foodshare Program.

  • Tricks with Mirrors: Sharpies and Their Representations
1 Published in Youth Cultures and Subcultures: Australian Perspectives , (2015), Sarah Baker, Brady Robards and Bob Buttigieg (eds), Ashgate, Surrey. Tricks with Mirrors: Sharpies and their Representations Sian Supski and Peter Beilharz Melbourne’ s count erculture happened in the sixties, but in some ways came to fruition into the seventies. Part of this scene was the Sharpies. The Sharpies were a network of Melbourne gangs, cha racterised by Italian fashion, ‘sharp’ looks, fierce music, and high levels of violence on tribal grounds and directed at outg roups like hippies. This chapter uses the work of two major period artists to discuss this culture and open some questions that follow. The first is Lobby Loyde, godfather of Australian rock guitar, whose band Coloured Balls were appropriated by the Sharpies. The second is Carol Jerrems, a photographer of extraordinary power and capacity to connect, whose work came to intersect with Sharpies in intriguing ways. The chapter then connects and contrasts these arti stic representations of Sharpies with a recently emerging literature of Sharp self - representation. The primary purposes of this chapter are given to the recovery of memory and experience, to the centrality of the oral and visual in everyday life, of inn ovation, reaction and violence in the fibre of a city and a culture like Melbourne’s in the seventies. The point of this chapter is to contribute to sociology in general by narrating some glimpses of this period and its cultures through Lobby Loyde and Car ol Jerrems, and this newer Sharpie testimonial literature. The following discussion, then, seeks to recover some sense of that place, time and culture and its 2 creative and dangerous tensions.

ROSE TATTOO Angry Anderson – Vocals Pete Wells – Slide Guitar Rob Riley – Guitar Steve King – Bass Paul Demarco - Drums “What else can you do in Australia but write rock songs? People always think everything’s so exciting over here, when in fact it’s dead boring. There are no crocodiles here, with the exception of Angry Anderson perhaps, and I’ve never run into Crocodile Dundee.” (Pete Wells, May 2002.) Rose Tattoo are set to release 'Pain', their first studio album for 18 years, on SPV on July 1st, and have confirmed a co-headline slot at the Rock and Blues Festival in Derby on July 27th. 'Pain' is almost sixty minutes of brilliant, pure, undiluted, unadulterated hard rocking bluesy metal. “The great thing about our music is that there’s no faking it; on our albums you get that authentic, pure rock ’n’ roll feel,” notes guitarist Pete Wells. Angry Anderson's raw, whiskey-soaked voice oozes pure adrenaline, perfectly riding the colossal musical juggernaut inexorably rolling on behind him. Song titles such as ‘Someone To Fuck’, ‘Hard Rockin’ Man’, ‘The Devil Does It Well’, ‘No Mercy’ or ‘One More Drink’ say it all. The 16 tracks on 'Pain' were produced by Rainer Hansel at the Karo Studios in Brackel outside Hamburg, and mixed by former Victory guitarist Herman Frank (Saxon, Nostradamus, etc). Rose Tattoo emerged in Sydney in 1976, their electric live performances and tough tattooed image drawing support from punks and rockers alike. The first Tatts single ‘Bad Boy For Love’, released in 1978, was an instant radio smash, swiftly followed by their classic debut album, (self titled in Australia but released as “Rock’ N’ Roll Outlaws” in the rest of the world).

  • Angry Anderson: Stars Rise and Fall on Kokoda the Australian Wednesday, April 24, 1996
Angry Anderson: Stars rise and fall on Kokoda The Australian Wednesday, April 24, 1996 WHAT do you get when you combine the historic Kokoda Track with a bunch of celebrities? The answer, judging from Nine’s A Current Affair, is a disaster, of significant proportions, with the odd triumph thrown in. When the bedraggled trekkers gratefully finish the 100km nine day trek in Papua New Guinea they have, between them, battled enough injuries – mental and physical – to keep a flying doctor in business for a month. On the Kokoda an exhausted Angry Anderson becomes a mere pussy cat – reduced to tears in the consoling arms of former army major Charlie Lynn, who led the team’s Kokoda assault. Even producer Philip Kemp has to be stretchered home on the final leg of ACA’s Kokoda Challenge, in which personalities such as former iron man Grant Kenny, actor Collette Mann, musician Daryl Braithwaite and Aussie rules legend Dermott Brereton retrace the steps of our Diggers to mark the end of war 51 years ago. Heatstroke, sprained ankles, twisted knees, infections and mental doubts reduce this modernday Kokoda Team to a ragtag outfit that would have been a pushover for any enemy lurking around the next tree. But, in contrast to our World War 11 heroes, that threat wasn’t a reality, and this group didn’t have to carry weapons, ammunition and wounded colleagues in addition to backpacks loaded with provisions. Lynn gave advice on fitness in the weeks before the trek, but says it’s one of those things you can describe to someone, but until you’ve experienced it you can’t mentally prepare.
