30 SCRIPTURE SUGGESTIONS FOR MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. SUNDAY SERVICE

1. Genesis 37:18—20 They saw him in the distance, and before he reached them, they plotted to kill him. They said to each other, “Here comes that dreamer. Now is our chance; let us kill him and throw him into one of these pits and say that a wild beast has devoured him. Then we shall see what will become of his dreams”.

2. Leviticus 19:15 Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly.

3. Deuteronomy 16:18 Appoint judges and other officials in every town that the Lord your God gives you. These men are to judge the people impartially.

4. Psalm 34:14 Turn away from evil and do good. Search for Peace and work to maintain it.

MLK Multi-Media Essay Contest STUDENTS, GRAB YOUR PHONES & CAMERAS!

Help us celebrate Martin Luther King’s birthday in January 2016 by creating a multi- media presentation that exemplifies the theme of: “We Dream of Dignity for All”.

Open to any student living in Warren County ages 10 to 18.

MLK JR Multi-Media Contest Rules and Guidelines

Sponsored by MLK Community Coalition of Lebanon Deadline: Midnight January 8, 2016 The goal of this contest is to encourage the community to come together to remember MLK and his efforts to promote content of character. A gallery of multi-media presentations will be on display at the 2016 MLK Celebration on Monday January 18, 2016 at the Lebanon Presbyterian Church for the viewing pleasure of the community and guests.

Entry Requirements: 1. Open to any student ages 10 – 18 living in Warren County are eligible to enter. (1 entry per person). 2. There are 3 ways to enter: 1) E-mail your multi-media presentation to [email protected] 2) Log onto www.MLKLebanon.org to upload your entry 3) Mail your entry to Photo Contest c/o MLK Community Coalition of Lebanon, PO Box 1671, Lebanon, OH 45036.

3. Release forms must be signed and submitted for every participant whose image is included in the submission. See the end of this document for the release form. All photo entries give permission to include images on the MLK Community Coalition of Lebanon website and/or used in other print materials. 4. All entries must include the following:  A video or photo essay that exemplifies the theme of “We Dream of Dignity for All.”  A brief description of how the video/photo essay is connected to the theme  Signed photo release forms (if needed)  Completed contest entry form  Signed contest rules page 5. Entries will be judged by the following criteria:  The theme of “We Dream of Dignity for All” is clearly supported with written statements and powerful evidence from our local community; they tie to the images provided.  Video, illustrations, and/or photos are created by the student submitting the work. Their quality is excellent and directly linked to the Warren County and the the theme.  The overall project is of professional quality. The words and images flow seamlessly, demonstrating effective editing and layout to best promote the theme. 6. Contest winners:  The top 3 photograph essays/videos, voted by a panel of judges, will be selected for inclusion in the 2016 MLK Celebration Event celebration and receive a monetary award. Winners will be announced the night of the MLK Celebration.

1. Help plan the MLK Activities and Events – The next meeting is Sat. December 12th and Saturday January 9th at 10am–12 noon at Bethel AME Church, 111 N. Cherry St., Lebanon.

2. Students can express MLK’s Dream through ART - The MLK Art Workshop will be held on Wednesday December 30th from 1 pm – 3 pm at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 1270 N. Broadway. The student art projects will be used for the Student Art Exhibit on MLK Day. This is workshop is free but space is limited. Please pre-register at www.MLKLebanon.org.

3. MLK Multi-Media Student Essay Contest – Students can create a photo or video essay that is based on the theme: We Dream of Dignity for All. Open to 10 – 18 year old Warren County students. For more information, visit www.MLKLebanon.org.

4. Volunteer on MLK Day - Help with collection drives, arts and crafts, and other activities from 12 noon – 6 pm at Lebanon Presbyterian Church, 123 N. East Street, Lebanon. Visit www.UGIVE.org or www.MLKLebanon.org to sign up.

5. Start your own collection drive with friends, family and co-workers - Collect winter coats, non-perishable food, books, and personal hygiene products for those in need. Then plan to bring your donations to the MLK Day of Service at Lebanon Presbyterian Church, 123 N. East Street, Lebanon 12 noon – 6 pm.

6. Pledge $30 and join the MLK Circle of Friends - Your donation supports the MLK Day events, activities, and educational programs. To donate, please send $30 to MLK Lebanon, PO Box 1671, Lebanon, OH 45036. Or donate online via pay pal at www.mlklebanon.org/get-involved.

7. 2nd Annual MLK Clergy Appreciation Dinner on MLK Day - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a minister and in honor of King’s legacy, this dinner was created to celebrate and thank the clergy in our community. The dinner will be held at Bethel AME Church, 111 N. Cherry Street, Lebanon from 4:30 pm – 6 pm. This is a free event for pastors, ministers, and clergy. 8. MLK Lighting The Way To Peace March - The march will start at 6 pm from Bethel AME Church and travel to Lebanon Presbyterian Church.

9. Attend the MLK Musical Celebration on MLK Day - The 31st annual evening celebration will be held at the Lebanon Presbyterian Church, 123 N. East Street, Lebanon at 7 pm.
