Nynehead Road, Nynehead (Notice2) SOMERSET COUNTY COUNCIL DISTRICT OF TAUNTON DEANE PARISH OF NYNEHEAD Temporary Closure of Nynehead Road TAKE NOTICE that in pursuance of Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991, the County Council of Somerset have made an Order PROHIBITING ALL TRAFFIC from proceeding along Nynehead Road directly underneath the railway bridge for a distance of 40 metres. This order will enable Amberon Ltd to carry out works using mobile scaffold to repair 2 damaged chevrons in this road. The Order becomes effective on 28 March 2014 and will remain in force for eighteen months. The works are expected to last for 1 day 08:00 - 18:00. While the closure is in operation an alternative route will be signed as detailed below. ALTERNATIVE ROUTE From the northern end of the closure proceed in a northerly direction along Nynehead Road to the junction with Chipley Road. Turn left and proceed in a north westerly direction along Chipley Road and Nynehead Road to the junction with the B3187 Milverton Road. Turn left and proceed in a south eastery direction along the B3187 to the junction with B3187 High Street, Wellington. Turn left and proceed in a north easterly direction along High Street and Taunton Road to Taunton Road Roundabout. Take the first exit off the roundabout and proceed in a northerly direction along Nynehead Road to the southern end of the closure. The reverse route applies. Anderdon, Jelks, Lowe and Small 10/03.01 MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING The minutes of the meeting held on 3 September 2003, having been circulated, were taken as read and were duly agreed and signed by the Chairman. 10/03.02 AQMA (Air Quality) - DISCUSSION ON ACTION PLAN The Chairman introduced Nigel Kerr and Ashley Parker from Taunton Deane Air Quality Management team. (Nigel is the Principal Officer, Housing and Environmental Protection and Ashley is the air quality expert.) Nigel explained that under the 1995 Environment Act the secretary of State has to produce a strategy for reviewing and assessing Air Quality. There is therefore a need to review the 7 specific pollutants associated with emissions to atmosphere from transport and transport. This has been undertaken in 3 stages. Stage One results showed that 4 out of 7 pollutants needed to be looked at in more detail in Stage Two. Stage Two results showed that only N02 remained suspect and that only because of the M5 Motorway. Stage Three was carved out in 2000, for N02 only. Concluding that the M5 was not a problem. However monitoring will continue to confirm the findings. This monitoring indicated the likelihood of N02 hotspots and the result of a supplementary report concluded that certain small areas of Henlade and East Reach are likely to exceed the, Government targets for 2005.

  • Bradford-On-Tone
    1 BRADFORD-ON-TONE Bradford-on-Tone is a rural parish three miles north-east of Wellington and four miles WSW of Taunton, in the former hundred of Taunton Deane.1 The small village lies immediately to the south-east of the river where several roads converge on the medieval bridge that replaced the ford. Also within the parish are the hamlet and former manor of Hele, the former Heatherton Park estate and a number of scattered farmsteads. There is a diverse range of buildings, from the medieval church and a number of late medieval houses to several substantial 19th-century dwellings and the early 20th-century chapel at Heatherton Park. In the 17th and 18th centuries Bradford seems to have been of some importance as a regional centre for the cloth trade. Today it is probably best known for its cider farm. Bradford takes its name from the ‘broad ford’ across the river Tone, described as Bradan Forda and Bradanford in a charter of 882.2 It was referred to as Bradeford in the Domesday Book.3 It was Bradeford by Welyngton in 1311,4 a name still used in 1424.5 In a will of 1429 the parish was described as Bradeford by Taunton.6 However, it was most commonly referred to simply as Bradeford after 1399.7 The half-share of the manor owned by the Franceis family was known as Bradford Fraunceys between 1461 and 14828 but the epithet never became attached to the parish, which was known as Bradford by 1617.9 The 1 C.

    (Notice3) SOMERSET COUNTY COUNCIL DISTRICT OF TAUNTON DEANE PARISH OF BRADFORD ON TONE Temporary Closure of East Nynehead Road TAKE NOTICE that in pursuance of Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991, the County Council of Somerset have made an Order PROHIBITING ALL TRAFFIC from proceeding along East Nynehead Road from 10 metres east of Bradford level crossing to 10 metres west of Bradford level crossing a distance of 30 metres. This order will enable Centurion Site Services to carry out the removal and replacement of the road surface for tamping in this road. The Order became effective on 23rd November 2013 and will remain in force for eighteen months. The works are expected to commence on 27th September 2014 last for 1 night between 23:00 and 07:00 hours. While the closure is in operation an alternative route will be signed as detailed below. ALTERNATIVE ROUTE From the western end of the closure proceed in a westerly direction along East Nynehead Road to the junction with Oake Road. Turn right and proceed in a north easterly direction along Oake Road to the junction with Bradford Road. Turn right and proceed in a south easterly direction along Bradford Road and Oake Road to the junction with East Nynehead Road. Turn right and proceed in a westerly direction to the eastern end of the closure and vice versa. Negotiations have been ongoing with the landowner (who does still use it at his own risk) but he has private vehicular rights. The repair is his responsibility and would cost a great deal of money but he has refused grants offered by the Council to repair the bridge and, together with other local landowners, has refused the possibilities of diversions or the construction of a footbridge at another location. In addition, the definitive/legal line of the footpath north- west of the bridge has been cut off by the river changing course since the footpath was fist mapped, so any project or funding will be dependent on a diversion of the path.

Every care has been taken to ensure accuracy but if you spot any errors or omissions, can add to the information or supply photographs, please contact me on – Tel: 01823 762417 or email [email protected] 2 FIRST STEPS At a General Meeting of parishioners 28 May 1919, it was resolved that a Memorial should be erected in the churchyard on a site close to the south gate, to honour the local men who lost their lives while serving in the First World War. Mr Frederick Bligh Bond of Bristol, a noted church architect, was employed to design and supervise the erection of the Memorial Cross. The estimated cost, including bronze tablets with the names of the Fallen and the architect’s fees was £350. The following month a printed pamphlet was circulated in the parish (see next page) appealing for donations. The committee felt it would “add greatly to the value and interest of the Memorial, if the cost of its erection is shared by every parishioner and by all who have an interest in Kingston.” The chairman of the organising committee was the Vicar the Rev Percy Shattock and the treasurer for the appeal was Mr Louis Hawkings, the headmaster of the school, who had served in the fledging Royal Naval Air Service during the war.
