3 WELCOME ADDRESS
Dear friends and colleagues,
It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to Florence for Heart Failure 2016 and the 3rd World Congress on Acute Heart Failure. With this year’s spotlight ‘Heart Failure: state of the art’, we will consider the latest ways to make a heart failure diagnosis, predict patient outcomes, manage heart failure with drugs, devices, efficiently structured clinical services and lifestyle recommendations.
The congress will be an exceptional event in the world of heart failure as we launch the latest ESC Guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic heart failure. The track will start with an overview session on Saturday at 11:00 where the Task Force will reveal what is new in the 2016 Guidelines. Throughout the rest of the congress, the track will continue with four sessions that will go deeper into the content of the new Guidelines, by topic.
In continuing our acclaimed scientific programme, expert faculty from around the globe will feature in the traditional symposia, debates, Meet the Experts, How-To and HFA Focus ‘Mobile App Interactive Voting’ sessions. In view of two successful previous editions, the HFA proudly hosts the 3rd World Congress on Acute Heart Failure with a full programme addressing an unmet need for professionals who care for and study patients suffering from acute heart failure.
We are honoured to present this year’s HFA Lectures: Prof. Karl Swedberg will give the Honorary Eugene Braunwald Lecture on Saturday during the Inaugural session and Prof. Luigi Tavazzi will give the Honorary Philip Poole Wilson Lecture as a keynote of the Young Investigator Awards: Basic Science session on Sunday.
State-of-the-art science will be presented during four days of oral and poster abstract sessions, a result of the record-breaking number of 2 010 abstracts and clinical cases received. Join us for the Awards Ceremony on Sunday on the HFA stand to congratulate the winners of the traditional Young Investigator and Nursing Investigator sessions and, new this year, the Clinical Case Competition! Make sure to also attend the Late Breaking Trials sessions that will unveil the latest results from clinical research.
The congress is also an opportunity for you to visit the exhibition and attend the Industry Sponsored sessions to stay up to date with the recent advances in science and technology from our partners.
The venue, Firenze Fiera, is housed in the monumental sixteenth century fortress ‘Fortezza da Basso’ located within walking distance of Florence’s historical centre with its unsurpassed renaissance art and architecture.
