During which communication with the preceptor, forms, travel, insurance are taken care of. Students who are away from the campus during this process will be accommodated. FIELD STUDY IN CAMBODIA Students will work with a Cambodian NGO in the capital city Phnom Penh on local health projects related to water and sanitation, health care quality improvement, maternal, child and reproductive health, or other topics depending on the student's interests and the priorities of the organization. FIELD STUDY IN CAMBODIA Students should expect to spend $1,700 on air travel, $500 per month on lodging and between $5-$20/day on food and local transportation, depending on personal preferences and location. Lucy Thairu ETHIOPIA FIELD STUDY ETHIOPIA – JIMMA UNIVERSITY Started in 2007 So far over 60 students have done a field study in Ethiopia Nature of the sites: University affiliated hospitals Health centers affiliated with University and the surrounding communities SITES IN ETHIOPIA Debre Marcos University With Debre Marcos hospital and Dejen Health Center Jimma University With Jimma University hospital and Assendabo health center Gonder University With Gonder University hospital BUDGET FOR ETHIOPIA SITE Airfare $1,400-$1,700.00 USD Low season-high season Visa $70 Touro will provide a letter to the embassy for the visa application Accommodation About $15 per night In DM, Jimma and Gonder Food About $ 10 per day ACCOMMODATION IN ETHIOPIA In Gonder, Jimma and Debre Marcos, the accommodation will be in modest hotels Your accommodation will be in a very rural area and will be limited to basic needs – limited access to tap water, few or no flush toilets, intermittent power outage etc LOGISTICS FOR ETHIOPIA Travel, visas You can to coordinate with Alex to mail your applications to the Ethiopian Embassy or you can choose to apply in person at the LA consulate You will need an official Touro university letter and a letter from Ethiopia IN CONCLUSION, FOR ALL THREE SITES, DURING THE FIELD STUDY Submit Scope of work, competency inventory and contract Logs Field study summary Site evaluation Preceptor evaluation Site visit (not applicable) E-mail these materials to your field study site coordinator THANK YOU! FIELD STUDY AND ROTATIONS For dual degree students DO/MPH who do their field study during 3rd and 4th year You may not be able to attend these sessions. Communicate as early as 3 months prior departure with the site coordinator In addition to the paperwork of the MPH program you are required to fill the necessary paperwork for your rotation. Information is available in Clinical Ed website. FIELD STUDY AND DO ROTATION For dual degree students DO/MPH who do their field study during 3rd and 4th year Contact Professor Hartwig for advice on the optimal time for scheduling your field study within your two year time frame. Contact your site coordinator to match you with your preceptor and field site.
