EUROCONTROL Monthly Network Operations Report Overview January 2020 FOUNDING MEMBER NETWORK SUPPORTING EUROPEAN AVIATION MANAGER 1. SUMMARY Traffic in January 2020 decreased by 0.4% compared to January 2019 and was below the low forecast published in Autumn 2019. Only two states added more than 50 flights daily to the network with Poland and Austria as the top contributors. NM estimates 3,500 flights didn’t operate due to French industrial action. There was also a significant traffic variation between ECAC and China from week 5 2020, following the coronavirus crisis. En-route ATFM delays (11,882 min/day) increased by 28.3% and airport ATFM delays (10,081 min/day) increased by 2.2% compared to January 2019. There were, on average, 248 daily flights with an en-route ATFM delay of at least 15 minutes (+25.9% compared to January 2020). Highlights include: En-route: • French ATC industrial action throughout the month generated approximatively 174,000 minutes of en-route ATFM delay; • High delays due to ATC capacity and ATC staffing in Karlsruhe UAC. Airport: • Low visibility impacted operations at London/Heathrow, Amsterdam/Schiphol, Lisbon and Vienna airports. The average en-route ATFM delay per flight in the NM areai in January 2020 was 0.47 min/flt, which is above the corresponding monthly guidelineii value of 0.21 min/flt. 2.
