More specifically, I would like to thank Aurélie, Ariane, Hortense, Leyli and Christie, who were at the middle (or end) of their PhDs when I started mine. Aurélie, thank you for your kindness and good advices, first as the “colleague working beside me”, then as a friend. Ariane, who first was the “colleague working behind me”, thank you for helping me socially integrate in the lab, and for your kindness and infectious laugh, but also for being (one of) the “mean” person. I would also like to thank Hortense, with whom I share common interest for horses, for her incredible liveliness, and for organizing memorable crazy parties. Christie, thank you for your kindness, no matter what happens, and for being present, either at coffee breaks or more personal discussions. Leyli, thank you for being the person you are (especially for being so little receptive to second degree humor!), and for your kindness and support at a moment I strongly needed it, although you were finishing your PhD. Among the “former” of the lab, it is also worth mentioning Reto, originally from Quebec and Switzerland, but who worked in France and now in UK, for his kindness and very nice accent, Pierre-Yves, for stopping by my office when visiting people at the lab, for nice conversations, first on how to integrate ecological economics in my project (I finally did it!), then on more personal topics, and Marine Legrand, for our very nice conversations on human-nature relationships, and for the “piece of nature” from Scotland she offered me to wish me good fortune. Sharing my work space with Julie M., Fanny (until she left us for another [more quiet?] office), Aurélie, Baptiste, Alan, Flavie, Roman and Minh-Xuan was a great experience. The atmosphere of our office would not have been the same without Julie and her (repeated) phone calls (no offense). I am glad to have shared my office with such a kind person, who will soon be my neighbor! Fanny and Baptiste were also very nice persons who provided me good advices when needed. Although Alan left the lab a few months ago, his jokes still resonate in the office. Minh-Xuan took his desk as soon as Alan left it (yes, it’s a bit the jungle law for office places in the lab). I would like to thank Minh-Xuan for being so nice and supportive, even if he made me feel incompetent taking care at plants. Although we do not see Roman that often, his “nice” posters of cats remind us about his presence. Now that Hortense has left the lab, I can still discuss about horses with Flavie, so kind and supportive as well. Her recent adventures with her students brightened our working days, although I’m not sure she appreciated it that much. Caro does not really share our office, but she is pretty close. I would like to thank Caro for her kindness, infectious laugh, and for our future climbing sessions together. I am also grateful to Ana-Cristina, Nelida, Gabrielle, Kevin, Simon and Fabien for being so nice and supportive, and because I often interrupted their working days for coffee breaks. A special thank to Ana-Cristina, with whom I spent great moments, and who really cares about “human-beans”. Nelida brought Spanish energy (and food!) to the lab, and Gabrielle a bit of bohemian style (which I really like!). I also thank Simon, for his kindness, Kevin, for our nice conversations and hiking, and Fabien, for his kindness, support and jokes (even if I hated him when I found out about the background image of computer). I also thank Fred, for finally accepting to include salsa in his musical playlists. I am also grateful to Jean-François for being so kind and helpful. The trio of bearded men contributed also on a large extent to the nice atmosphere of the lab. The lab would not be the same without his mascot, Theo, with his endless jokes (I really don’t know where you get all these from!). I shouted at a concert (of Theo’s group, by the way) for the first time thanks to Charles. It felt good! I would also like to thank Martin, with whom I discovered (and appreciated) Paris, for his support and for all the great moments we spent together. Finally, Dave Hurley, who has worked at Ousedale for a staggering 31 years; his dedication to PE teaching and extra-curricular PE in particular will be very hard to replace. Dave is retiring from teaching. We wish all three the very best for the future.
