Descendants of Richard Casey and (---) Casey – Parents of Richard Peter Casey and Betsy Casey Hall of Lingan and Glace Bay By Joe Petrie Introduction This modified register report contains 5 generations. The complete report would list 9 generations, 1858 individuals and 622 marriages. It replaces a register report of 12 February 2013. The 2013 report had errors that I discovered last November. Also, this 2015 report includes records for the descendants of Mary Casey (Mrs. Alexander Lee) which were not contained in the prior register report. 1. Richard1 Casey. He married (---) Casey. Notes for Richard Casey Web Site: James Hall from Richard Peter Casey's Probate in FamilySearch.org/Collections/List/ Nova Scotia/Cape Breton Probate. Notes for (---) Casey Maiden Name unknown Children of Richard Casey and (---) Casey were as follows: + 2 i Richard Peter2 Casey, born abt 1764; died 18 Feb 1837 in Lingan, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada; buried 20 Feb 1837 in Sacred Heart, Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. Richard Peter2 Casey (Richard1), born abt 1764; died 18 Feb 1837 in Lingan, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada; buried 20 Feb 1837 in Sacred Heart, Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. He married (---) Casey. Notes for Richard Peter Casey Source: Xavier McGillivray Web Site: FamilySearch.org, Nova Scotia Probate Records, Cape Breton County Probate Records and FamilySearch.org, Canada, Nova Scotia, RC Antigonish Diocese, Records for Sacred Heart Parish. Richard is the name on the Probate. Probate papers dated 9-7-1854 indicates that Richard died either without a valid will or the will was lost. Interestingly, a Will was in the Probate Papers provided by James Hall. However the Judge may have determine that the will was unacceptable. Richard was the brother of Betsy (Mrs. James Hall). James Hall was appointed to Administer the Probate twice, initially in 1838 and again in 1854. Daniel Caset, a nephew of Betsy Casey Hall and her late brother Richard served for a period of time in the late 1840s and early 1850's. The Probate Records accounts for the time that elapsed from his death in 1837 and his estate being probated in 1854. The Probate papers indicate that Richard was the father of Michael, Mary (Mrs. Alexander Lee), (her daughter was mentioned in the probate), and Margaret (Mrs. Ed Petrie). I assume that Mary (Mrs. Alex Lee) had passed away before the Probate was completed in 1854. Richard may have been the father or brother of Peter Casey who served in R. N. B. Fensibles and died in Sydney on Aug 11, 1808. I suspect that Richard and Betsey may also have had kin living in Halifax County NS. Finally, based on James Hall's document (Image 182) in the Probate images, I believe that Richard was Richard Casey (Junior). James (~1837-)" Please note that I suspect that Vince made an error when he said Anna (1866). She was probably born 40 years earlier. Also please note that there may be some records for Alexander originating in Main-a-Dieu where he is identified as Alexander Ley. Some Ley family members trace their roots to the L'eaux Pioneer Family in Lunenburg. Children of Mary Casey and Alexander Lee were as follows: + 10 i Thomas4 Lee, born abt 1824 in Lingan, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada.
