The award is annually presented to the nation’s best punter. Hornsey received the award on December 12, 2013, at The Home Depot College Football Awards broadcasted by ESPN. Ray Guy, the College Hall of Fame punter who played at Southern Miss and went on to have a 14-year career in the NFL with the Oak- land and Los Angeles Raiders, presented the award. Hornsey received one of nine National College Media Football Awards Association (NCFAA) awards during the evening. During the evening he was also named a member of the Walter Camp All-America Second Team. He is only the second player from the U of M to be named a Walter Camp All-American, with the other being DeAngelo Williams in 2005. Hornsey was included on the 2013 NCAA FBS Consensus College Football Team. The recognition is determined by a point system computed from All-America teams named by the American Football Coaches Association and select media sources. COM The University of Memphis Lou Groza Award Former University of Memphis place-kicker Joe Allison enjoyed a record-setting career and a brilliant season in 1992, but he never dreamed that, in doing so, he would receive the Lou Groza Award, which is presented to the nation’s top college kicker. Allison, a native of Atlanta, Ga., led the nation in field goals per game, average field goals made per game, and kick-scoring for the final nine weeks of the 1992 season. The nation’s oldest All-America squad was announced this evening on The Home Depot ESPN College Football Awards Show. Third-ranked Florida State had three players selected to the First Team, while top-ranked Alabama, Oregon and Utah all had two honorees. In all, 20 different schools from six conferences were represented on the All-America First Team. The Atlantic Coast Conference, Pac 12, and Southeastern Conference each had six selections. The Walter Camp All-America teams are selected by the head coaches and sports information directors of the 125 Football Bowl Subdivision schools and certified by Marcum LLP, a New Haven- based accounting firm.     2008 Florida Football Post-Game Notes Florida vs. South Carolina November 15, 2008 This was the fifth straight game Florida scored 42 points or more, which matched the second-longest streak in school history (1996 and 2001). It is also tied with Oklahoma for the longest active streak in the country. Head Coach Urban Meyer is now 16-5 all-time against ranked opponents, 14-5 at Florida. He has led the Gators to wins over eight of the last 10 ranked opponents and 13 of the last 16. UF did not lose to an SEC East team this year and has gone undefeated against division teams 10 times in school history. USC remained unable to notch a win in Gainesville, as it is now 0-12 all-time. Florida increased its series lead to 22-4-3 overall and has claimed 16 of the last 17 meetings. Steve Spurrier is 1-3 against his former team and has lost the last three consecutive meetings. Prior to today’s game, the most points the Gamecocks had allowed in 2008 were 24 and were allowing only 15.6 points per game. The Gators scored 28 points with a little over 11 minutes to play in the first half. USC was ranked third in the nation in total defense, allowing only 256.5 yards per game. The Gators racked up 519 offensive yards today. The Gamecocks were also fourth in the nation in pass defense, only allowing 155.1 yards/game. The Gators registered 173 passing yards. Prior to today’s game, the Gamecock defense allowed opponents on 101.4 rushing yards per game and 12 rushing touchdowns on the year.
