Unless it happened in the 1930s when we don’t have records, Colorado has accomplished a historic first this season: the Buffaloes have scored on all three opening drives and all three first second half drives in each of the first three games of the year. CU has scored a touchdown to open all three games, and has two touchdowns and a field goal to open the second halves. In 2016, the Buffs opened the first four games with TDs on their first drives, otherwise you have to go back to 2006 (FG-TD-FG) and then 1989 (TD-TD-TD). CU scored on three straight opening second half possessions in 2015 (FG-FG-TD), which was the first time since 1995 (TD-TD-TD). OBSCURE NOTE OF THE WEEK CU defeated New Hampshire, 45-14, to improve to 3-0 on the year. The final score, 45-14, most would agree is fairly common in college football. But in 1,240 games in Buffalo history (703 wins), it’s the first time CU has won or lost by that score. Ditto with the 45-13 win over CSU in the opener; however, CU’s 33-28 win at Lincoln matched the Buffs’ score in defeated Texas-El Paso in the 2004 Houston Bowl. 2018 COLORADO SCHEDULE & RESULTS (3-0, 0-0 Pac-12) 2018 Date CU* Opponent Opp* TV Result/Time Record Series This-N-That or ’17 rewind Aug. 31 NR Colorado State (N; Denver) NR CBS-SN W 45-13 1-4 66-22-2 CU has a 300-yard passer, 200-yard receiver and a 100-yard rusher for first time Sept. 8 NR at Nebraska NR ABC W 33-28 0-3 19-49-2 Buffs rally for 33-28 win in first meeting between former Big 8 rivals since 2010 SEPT. 15 RV NEW HAMPSHIRE ---- PAC12MT W 45-14 0-3 1- 0-0 CU sprints to 28-0 halftime lead, 74 different players see action SEPT. 28 RV UCLA (N) NR FS-1 7:05 p.m. 0-3 3-10-0 Fourth straight tight game between the two (the four decided by 21 points) OCT. 6 ARIZONA STATE (FW) PAC12 2:00 p.m. 2-2 1- 8-0 Buffs led for most of the game (nearly 48 minutes), only to see ASU rally late Oct. 13 Southern California TBA TBA 2-2 0-12-0 Last two games: first half, USC 34-0; second half, CU 41-25 as Trojans prevail Oct. 20 at Washington TBA TBA 3-1 5-11-1 Game plays out eerily similar to ’16 Pac-12 title game, as UW pulls away in 3rd Q OCT. 27 OREGON STATE (HC) TBA TBA 1-3 5- 5-0 Montez leads 9-play, 82-yard drive for winning score with 1:34 remaining Nov. 2 at Arizona (N) FS-1 8:30 p.m. 2-2 14- 6-0 Teams combine for 713 rush yards, record 608 by two players (Lindsay: 281) NOV. 10 WASHINGTON STATE (N) TBA TBA 3-1 6- 5-0 Buffs shutout for first time since 2012 (60 games); Lindsay goes over 1K rushing NOV. 17 UTAH TBA TBA 2-1 32-29-3 Utes take 5-2 lead since both join Pac-12; first 6 games were decided by 32 points Nov. 24 at California TBA TBA 3-0 4- 5-0 CU wins in romp, 44-28 in ’17; first season finale in 8 seasons that isn’t vs. Utah Nov. 30 Pac-12 Championship Game FOX 6:00 p.m. at Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, Calif.
