LAST GAME (Dec. 4) - Colorado 3 at Pittsburgh 6 Patric Hornqvist scored three goals in a span of 2:47 in the third period to break a 3-3 tie and give the Penguins a 6-3 victory over the Avalanche. The Avs battled back from an 0-3 deficit, lighting the lamp three times in the second period to even the game. Tyson Barrie scored on the power play, Carl Soderberg at even strength and Matt Nieto shorthanded. Mikko Rantanen had an assist to extend his point streak to nine games. The loss snapped Colorado's six-game road winning streak and 11-game overall point streak.

TONIGHT The Avalanche continues their four-game road trip tonight in Sunrise against the Florida Panthers. The Avs are 1-1-0 so far on this trip, beating Detroit 2-0 before falling to Pittsburgh 6-3. That loss to the Penguins snapped the Avalanche's six-game road winning streak and 11-game overall point streak (9-0-2). Colorado will wrap up the trip on Saturday night in Tampa Bay, which will end a stretch that had them playing 19-of-28 away from home. After this week, the Avs will be nearly halfway done with their road schedule.

• Colorado's streak of 11 straight games (9-0-2) with a point was snapped on Tuesday night in Pittsburgh. That was the club's longest stretch without a regulation loss since going 10-0-2 over a 12-game stretch from Feb. 27–March 25, 2007. • The Avs are still 9-1-2 in their last 13 games, 6-1-0 in their last seven on the road and 3-0-2 in their last five at home. • The Avalanche finished 8-3-3 in November after starting the month 0-3-1.

ROAD WARRIORS Colorado had its six-game road winning streak snapped on Tuesday night in Pittsburgh. That six-game run equaled the second-longest road winning streak in franchise history, one shy of the record set in 1998-99. Colorado is 10-5-2 on the road this year, tied with Toronto for the most away points in the NHL (22). The Avs posted their 10th road win in their 16th away game on Dec. 2, the second- fastest Avalanche team to reach 10 road wins in a season behind only 2013-14 squad (13 games). The Avs have scored 65 goals on the road, the most of any team.

LONGEST ROAD WINNING STREAKS 7 Jan. 10 - Feb. 7, 1999 6 Nov. 11 - Dec. 2, 2018 6 Oct. 8 - Nov. 1, 2013 6 Oct. 10-22, 2011 6 Jan. 19 - March 11, 2002 6 March 7 - April 7, 2000

AVS & PANTHERS Tonight is the first of two meetings between the Avalanche and Panthers this season and Colorado's lone visit to South Florida. The Avs won both matchups last year, sweeping a season series of at least two games from the Panthers for the first time since 2000-01. Colorado won the last meeting here at BB&T Center by a 7-3 final on Dec. 9, 2017, scoring their most goals in a road game since Oct. 13, 2011 at Ottawa (7-1). The Avs are 11-3-2 on the road against the Panthers since relocating from Quebec, 13-3-2 if you include the 1996 Stanley Cup Finals sweep.

SEASON SERIES Dec. 6 @ FLA Feb. 25 vs. FLA

CONNECTIONS Panthers head coach Bob Boughner finished his NHL playing career with the Avs from 2003-04 to 2005-06.

YOUR LEAGUE LEADER Mikko Rantanen leads the NHL in scoring with 46 points (11g/35a), followed by Nathan MacKinnon with 43 (19g/24a). Rantanen has points in each of his last nine games (4g/13a), matching his career-long scoring streak set earlier this year. Rantanen's 46 points are the second-most through 28 games in Avalanche history, trailing only Peter Forsberg's 48 in 1995-96. The Finnish winger already had the most points of any Avs player through 24, 25, 26 and 27 games. Mikko was the first NHL player to collect at least 45 points through his teams first 27 games since Sidney Crosby (45) in 2012-13. Rantanen tallied 43 points through the end of November, the most by an NHL player since Mario Lemieux had 46 in 2002-03.

MORE RANTANEN • As of Wednesday, Rantanen has held at least a share of the NHL scoring lead for each of the last 44 days since the morning of Oct. 23. He’s been the outright leader for 38 of those 44 days. • The only other times that an Avalanche player led the NHL in scoring at the end of November was in 1996-97, when Sakic and Forsberg co-led with 36 points, and in 2003-04, when Alex Tanguay shared the NHL lead with Vancouver's Markus Naslund (32). • Rantanen surpassed the 40-point mark on Nov. 27 in Nashville, the first NHL player to hit 40 points in 2018-19. Only once before in Avalanche/Nordiques franchise history has a player been the first to 40 points in a season. In 1997-98, Forsberg (9g/31a) recorded his 40th point on Dec. 12 to end the day tied with Philadelphia’s John LeClair (24g/16a). • Mikko was also the first player to reach 30 points this season.

20-29 VISION With a goal tonight, Nathan MacKinnon would become the first player in Avalanche history (1995-96) to reach the 20-goal mark in fewer than 30 team games. His 19 goals are the most through 29 contests in Colorado history, one more than Sakic's 18 in 1995-96. Sakic scored his 20th that year in the team's 30th game. The franchise mark for fastest to 20 goals is 23 games by Quebec's Peter Stastny (1987-88) and Owen Nolan (1991-92).

LINE OF FIRE Colorado's top line of Landeskog (31)—MacKinnon (43)—Rantanen (46) has combined for 120 points (46g/74a) in 28 contests this season, the most points of any three teammates through 28 games since Daniel Alfredsson, Dany Heatley and Jason Spezza combined for 131 through 28 contests with Ottawa in 2005-06. • Colorado’s threesome has factored on 57 of 102 goals this season (56%). • MacKinnon/Rantanen are by far the most frequent point pair in the NHL, as 36 times they've BOTH been involved in a goal. • 16 times all three forwards have gotten points on the same goal, including both tallies on Sunday in Detroit. • 47 times at least two of the three has factored on a goal. • MacKinnon and Rantanen are tied for the NHL lead with 15 multi-point games in 2018-19. • Rantanen assisted on each of MacKinnon's first 17 goals until Nathan's empty-netter on Nov. 28 at Pittsburgh. • Rantanen/MacKinnon were the sixth set of teammates in the last 20 years to be the first players to reach 40 points in a season. • The duo combined for 84 points at the end of November, the first teammates to have that many points on Dec. 1st since Pittsburgh's Mario Lemieux (52) and Jaromir Jagr (47) in 1995-96. • Rantanen (30) and MacKinnon (27) currently rank 1-2 in road points.

GETTING OFFENSIVE As of Wednesday, the Avs were tied for second in goals (102) and goals-per-game (3.64), and tied for third in goal differential (+23). The Avs have scored six or more goals six different times, tied with Calgary and Tampa for the most of any team. The Avs rank second in third-period goals (41) and are leading all teams in combined second and third-period scoring (79).

THAT'S THE POWER OF LOVE Colorado has the top-ranked power play in the league at 32.2% (29/90). The PP unit is 2-for-4 on this roadtrip and is 14-for-31 (45.2%) over the last 10 contests.

EAST SIDE STORY The Avs are 9-3-2 against Eastern Conference teams, 5-2-1 on the road. Dating back to last December, Colorado is 18-6-3 in its last 27 against the East.

STREAKING GOALIES • Philipp Grubauer is 6-0-2 in his last eight starts, one shy of his longest streak without a regulation loss (7-0-2 in 2016-17). • Semyon Varlamov is 6-1-1 in his last eight starts, which included a five-game winning streak from Nov. 11-27.

SEEING STARS MacKinnon was named the NHL's Second Star for the month of November. He tied for the league lead with 23 points (9g/14a) in 14 games last month, equaling the Avalanche record for scoring in November set by Forsberg in 1995-96. The 23 points were a career high for MacKinnon in a single month.

NOT A BAD MONTH HIMSELF Rantanen finished with 22 points (6g/16a) in November, tied for third in the league. Rantanen, who led all NHL players with 21 points in October, is the first Avalanche player to post back-to-back 20-point months since Forsberg did it for three straight in 2002-03 (January–March). Rantanen is the first player in Avalanche history to ever do it the first two months of the hockey year. Not including April, Mikko has actually had three straight 20-point months going back to last year (23 in March 2017-18).
