  • 2007 Outlook
2007 Outlook INTRO THIS IS LSU PREVIEW TIGERS COACHES REVIEW HISTORY RECORDS The Paul Mainieri Era LSU Begins Since becoming LSU’s baseball coach on June 28, Paul Mainieri has learned much about the Fighting Tiger program, including its magnificent tradition, its loyal fans and its expectations of winning championships. Most importantly, Mainieri and his assistant coaches – Terry Rooney, Cliff Godwin and Blair Barbier – have spent the past several months educating themselves about the assets of the young men that comprise the 2007 LSU squad. Mainieri said that the Tigers’ four-week fall practice session in October revealed much about the team’s assets. “We found out an awful lot about our team this fall, and most of it was very good,” Mainieri said. “I don’t think we’re going to have many candidates for All-American this year, but I do think the kids are going to play hard, they’re going to play with a lot of enthusiasm, and I do think we have enough talent to win.” The ’07 Tigers feature 18 returning lettermen, including four position starters and seven pitchers that recorded innings last season. The youthful squad includes 23 freshmen and sophomores – and just four seniors - on a 37-man roster. “I do think we have enough talent to be a very competitive team this spring,” Mainieri said. “The kids have really responded to a new style of coaching, and it’s been a lot of fun watching them develop.” The 2007 Tigers Lettermen Returning/Lost: 18/14 Position Starters Returning/Lost: 4/5 Pitchers Returning/Lost: 7/7 Returning Redshirts: 2 Newcomers: 17 (11 high school players, 4 JUCO transfers, 2 four-year college transfers) By Class By State Seniors: 4 Louisiana: 25 Juniors: 10 Florida: 7 Sophomores: 11 Alabama: 2 Freshmen: 12 Mississippi: 2 Maine: 1 58 2007 LSU BASEBALL OFFICIAL YEARBOOK 2007 Outlook Position Players INTRO THIS IS LSU While pleased with the work ethic and team, is the Tigers’ projected starter at He batted .273 with two doubles, one PREVIEW energy displayed by the LSU position second base.
