Sturm, 24 (5/3/95), has recorded 11 points (6-5=11) including two power-play goals and two game-winning goals in 23 games with Iowa this season. He has tallied four points (2-2=4) in his last four games and leads team rookies in scoring. Sturm ranks T-1st amongst AHL rookies in game-winning goals, T-4th in shots on goal (50) and T-9th in goals. The 6-foot-3, 206-pound native of Augsburg, Germany, was signed as a free agent by Minnesota on April 1, 2019 and made his NHL debut on April 4 vs. Boston. He registered seven shots on goal in two games with the Wild last season. Sturm wears sweater No. 7 with Minnesota. He led Clarkson University in scoring and assists with 45 points (14-31=45) in 39 games and won 392-of-677 face-offs taken (57.9%) as a junior last season. The Wild Wed., January 8 San Diego Pechanga Arena 9 p.m. earned a 5-4 home victory against the Stars Fri., January 10 San Diego Pechanga Arena 9 p.m. (12/31). F Sam Anas (1-2=3) and F Kyle Rau (1- 2=3) led the team with three points each. D Sat., January 11 Bakersfield Mechanics Bank Arena 9 p.m. Brennan Menell tallied two points (1-1=2). G Kaapo Kahkonen made 20 saves. Iowa recorded a 5-1 home win vs. Rockford (1/3). F Gerald Mayhew registered four points (2-2=4). Anas tallied three assists. Menell (0-2=2), Rau (0-2=2) and F Nico Sturm (2- 0=2) collected two points apiece and Kahkonen made 29 saves. The Wild claimed a 5-1 win at the Chicago Wolves (1/4). Anas led Iowa with three assists. F Luke Johnson (2-0=2) and Mayhew (2-0=2) recorded two points each. G Mat Robson stopped 32-of-33 shots. Anas leads the Wild and ranks third in the AHL with 37 points (9-28=37) and was named CCM/AHL Player of the Week (1/6). Mayhew leads the team in goals and shots and ranks second in scoring with 35 points (23-12=35). He leads the AHL in goals, ranks fourth in shots and T-4th in scoring.

Sturm, 25 (5/3/95), notched two assists in six regular season games with Minnesota in 2019-20. He made his season debut on Dec. 17 at Vegas and recorded his first career NHL point with an assist at Arizona on Dec. 19. Sturm made his Stanley Cup Playoff debut in Game 3 of the Qualifying Round series against Vancouver on August 6 and tallied his first career NHL goal in Game 4 on August 7 to become the second player in franchise history to record his first career NHL goal in the playoffs (Jordan Greenway). He recorded 32 points (12-20=32), 18 penalty minutes (PIM) and a plus-9 rating in 55 games with the Iowa Wild in the American Hockey League (AHL) last season. Sturm ranked second on the team with four game-winning goals, fifth in scoring and T-5th in plus/minus rating. The 6-foot-3, 206-pound native of Augsburg, Germany, led team rookies in goals and scoring and ranked T-11th in goals and T-12th in scoring amongst AHL rookies. He led Clarkson University in scoring and assists with 45 points (14-31=45) in 39 games and won 392-of-677 face-offs taken (57.9%) as a junior in 2018-19.

Sturm, 24 (5/3/95), was recalled on Dec. 6 and did not appear in a game with Minnesota. He has recorded 11 points (6-5=11) including two power-play goals and two game-winning goals in 23 games with Iowa this season. Sturm leads Iowa rookies in scoring and ranks T-1st amongst AHL rookies in game-winning goals, T-9th in shots on goal (50) and T-13th in goals. The 6-foot-3, 206-pound native of Augsburg, Germany, was signed as a free agent by Minnesota on April 1, 2019 and made his NHL debut on April 4 vs. Boston. Comtois is a big body with an underrated offensive skill set. I had him pegged as more of a bottom-six type in his draft year, but his skating has improved, and his hockey sense is strong. Comtois has appeared in all 13 of Anaheim’s games through Sunday (5 goals, 1 assist) with an average of 14:09 per match. It’s safe to say Comtois is done with the AHL. Jack Kopacka (LW, 6’3, 192 pounds, acquired: 4th Rd {93rd overall} 2016): Kopacka is no longer part of the organization as he was recently traded to San Jose for older minor-league defenseman Trevor Carrick. Kopacka once stood out as a potential late bloomer due to the fact he played a depth role on some loaded Sault Ste. Marie teams back in his OHL days, but it just hasn’t clicked for him at the professional level.
