Fun Reunion for Turner and Douglas Not Everyone Was Satisfi Ed ARAB TIMES, MONDAY, MAY 31, 2021 NEWS/FEATURES 13 People & Places Obits Actor MacLeod dead ‘Hooked on Feeling’ singer Thomas dies LOS ANGELES, May 30, (AP): B.J. Thomas, the Grammy-winning singer who enjoyed success on the pop, country and gospel charts with such hits as “I Just Can’t Help Believing,” “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head” and “Hooked on a Feeling,” has died. He was 78. Thomas, who announced in March that he had been diagnosed with lung cancer, died from complications of the disease Saturday at his home in Arlington, Tex- as, his publicist Jeremy Westby said in a statement. A Hugo, Oklahoma-native who grew up in Hou- ston, Billy Joe Thomas broke through in 1966 with a gospel- styled cover of Hank Williams’ “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” and went on to sell mil- lions of records and have doz- ens of hits across genres. Dionne Warwick, who duetted with Thomas, sent out a tweet Saturday with her condolences. “My sincere condolences to the family of one of my favorite duet partners, BJ Thomas. I will miss him as I know so many others will as well. Rest In Peace my friend,” she said. Thomas’ signature recording was “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head,” a No. 1 pop hit and an Oscar winner for best original song as part of the soundtrack to one of the biggest movies of 1969, the irreverent Western “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” This image released by Netflix shows Michael Douglas, (left), and Kathleen Turner in a scene from the third and final season of ‘The Kominsky Method.’ (AP) Thomas wasn’t the fi rst choice to perform the whim- sical ballad composed by Burt Bacharach and Hal David; Ray Stevens turned the songwriters down. Spurred by its role as one of the seven originating theaters of D.C.'s Women's Voices Theater Festival, Arena Stage has embraced a commitment to inclusion with a season featuring seven titles by women, six playwrights of color and five female directors. On assembling the lineup Smith shares, "Arena has such a smart and diverse audience, so it is always a challenge to ensure everyone is energized. This season we leaned into that challenge and are welcoming a host of extremely talented artists both returning and new. This season is a celebration of Arena's broad shoulders, from our Lillian Hellman Festival, a Lorraine Hansberry classic and the gold-standard musical to world-premiere political dramas, a comedy and a new musical. The Mead Center was designed to have these different audiences unite in our flowing lobby, and I'm eager to experience this throughout our dynamic season." The season kicks off in July with the original world-premiere musical Born for This: The BeBe Winans Story by six- time Grammy Award winner BeBe Winans and veteran Arena Stage playwright/director Charles Randolph-Wright. Featuring new music by BeBe, the musical chronicles the early days of his career with sister CeCe and will star their niece and nephew, siblings Deborah Joy Winans and Juan Winans.

February 2020 #82 __________________________________________________________________________________________ _____ Broadcast Has Some Great TV Series Too By Steve Sternberg In December, I released my analysis of the 27 best TV series of 2019. In alphabetical order – Barry, Big Little Lies, Bosch, The Boys, Dead to Me, Fleabag, GLOW, Goliath, The Good Fight, The Good Place, Harlots, Jessica Jones, Killing Eve, The Kominsky Method, Mindhunter, The Morning Show, Mr Inbetween, Pose, Queen of the South, Rick & Morty, Russian Doll, Sneaky Pete, Star Trek: Discovery, Succession, This is Us, Vida, and Watchmen. As was the case with the Emmys, The Golden Globes, and virtually every TV critic, I demonstrated a clear bias against broadcast network series. Of my 27 best TV series, 15 are on streaming services, 5 are on premium cable, 5 are on ad-supported cable, and only 2 were on broadcast TV. There are, of course, some logical reasons for this. • Broadcast series have to answer to advertisers (and the FCC), so have limitations regarding language and sexual content that do not hinder cable or streaming services. A Sternberg Report Sponsored Message Reach thousands of highly engaged media and advertising decision makers. Contact [email protected] for details about advertising here. The Sternberg Report ©2020 __________________________________________________________________________________________ _____ • While cable and streaming series generally have between 6 and 13 episodes per season, broadcast series typically have between 17 and 24 episodes (although a few this season have 13). It’s difficult to write that many good episodes in a season, so it requires a lot more “filler.” • More broadcast dramas have self-contained episodes, as opposed to season-long story arcs, which are more prevalent on cable and streaming series.

IN LOVE IN A MOVIE: WOMEN AND CONTEMPORARY ROMANTIC COMEDY By ANDREA ROCHELLE MABRY A DISSERTATION PRESENTED TO THE GRADUATE SCHOOL OF THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA 2004 Copyright 2004 by Andrea Rochelle Mabry For Olivia and Grace ACKNOWLEDGMENTS This dissertation is very much a collaborative effort, and for its existence I am indebted to a great many people. I first wish to express my appreciation to the faculty of the University of Florida Department of English, particularly the members of my dissertation committee. Professor Maureen Turim, my advisor and dissertation director, has been an invaluable mentor, not only over the course of this project, but throughout my studies at Florida. Her guidance in the writing of this dissertation, from the original seed of an idea to the final reading, has been invaluable. I am also truly grateful to Professors Susan Hegeman, Roger Beebe, and Nora Alter for their enthusiasm, their advice, and their encouragement to take my work to new levels. My thanks also go out to my fellow graduate students in the Florida English Department for their friendship and their good humor. The camaraderie of other students helped lighten many a stressful day as I worked to complete this journey. Finally, my family—Mom, Dad, Linda, Christine, Tony, Olivia and Grace—have always provided me with love and support, not just as I wrote this dissertation, but all along the road I have taken to get to this point. For that they have my love and my thanks.

Again, Diane has been at this for 50 years and her trademark ditzy persona has been running since Annie Hall in Martin's Griffin. But great fun to read it in her voice. In honor of the Summer Games in Rio, Playbill crowned champions of theatrical feats. Or does it depend on the play? Yes, she still returns to variations of the Rachel haircut. There is nothing wrong with finding a niche and making it your own. This work is a fine addition to any Civil War bookshelf. Occasionally, his opinions do seem intrusive to the questioning and it derails the overall flow from question to question. Refresh and try again. Much worse than you thought. If her speech is multisyllabic, that's a cold rhythm. Like some other guest stars on Friends Helen Baxendale for one , Kathleen found the core cast cliquish. Looking at morality plays, the author examines what it means to be a human being through stories anchored in sin and the traditional Christian rites of confession and penance. It makes sense — too much stage direction can actually be limiting. A fun read but not exactly what it's advertised as. By the midpoint of this book, I'd taken to completely ignoring the paragraphs that started with D.

  • 2018 Letter to Shareholders
January 17, 2019 Fellow shareholders, We grew annual revenue 35% to $16 billion in 2018, and nearly doubled operating profits to $1.6 billion. Fueling this growth was our high member satisfaction, which propelled us to finish 2018 with 139 million paying memberships, up 9 million from quarter start and up 29 million from the beginning of the year. Q4 Results and Q1 Forecast Average paid memberships and ASP rose 26% and 3% year over year, respectively. Excluding the impact of F/X, international ASP increased 6% year over year and 1% sequentially. Foreign exchange headwinds continued to move against us in the quarter, similar to the trend we saw in Q3’18. As expected, Q4 operating margin dipped to 5.2% vs. 7.5% prior year due to so many titles launching in the quarter. Our full year 2018 operating margin of 10% was in-line with our target. EPS of $0.30 vs. $0.41 included a $22 million non-cash unrealized gain from F/X remeasurement on our Euro denominated debt. We added a record 8.8m paid memberships (1.5m in the US and 7.3m internationally), higher than our beginning-of-quarter expectation for 7.6m paid net adds and up 33% year over year. For the full year, paid net adds grew 33% to 29m vs. the 22m we added in 2017. 1 As discussed in our last letter, we reclassified certain personnel costs from G&A to Cost of Revenues and Marketing, and from Technology & Development to Other Cost of Revenues. This change has no impact on operating profit or margin or total operating expenses and historical quarterly pro forma financial statements for 2016-2018 can be found here.

“It’s All in My Head.” The Top 300 Comedy Films of All-Time (in my opinion) my (in Esma relda Villa Lobos An Introduction Although the following is what I hope to be a comprehensive study guide on, in my opinion, the greatest comedy films of all time, if you happen to disagree with any of my critiques or choices throughout the course of reading this novel, please rest assured that this is by no means the last of these collections that I will assemble throughout my life and career. What started out as a list of ten became a list of twenty, twenty became fifty, fifty became one fifty, two hundred, two fifty and then finally three hundred. The pages are organized in descending order because what is the fun in giving away the best part fresh out the gate? I must admit that my final choices are altogether unsurprising, but frankly there is just no argument when it comes to the best of the best. I am certain your jaw will drop to the ground when you see some of the films that I have omitted (hint: you won’t find “Princess Bride” anywhere on this list) and I am also certain others will have you scratching your head and wondering “what?!” There are plenty of films on here that were bashed by “day-to-day” critics upon the time of their release, but since I am a “bigger picture” type of analyst, I find that these films, over time, show their worth and merit. If at any point in time you find yourself wondering, “how can I watch some of these films?” Well, if they aren’t available on Netflix, nine times out of ten you can rent them on Vudu for $2.99-$3.99 apiece.
