Athletic program Central College is affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (Division III) and the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for men and women. Our 17 teams include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, volleyball and wrestling. Central athletes have posted 11 NCAA Division III championships, 21 NCAA Division III national individual champions, 130 Iowa Conference championships, 22 men’s and women’s IIAC all-sports titles and 37 Verizon Academic All-Americans.     www.nature.com/scientificdata OPEN A dataset describing data discovery DATA DESCRIPTOR and reuse practices in research Kathleen Gregory This paper presents a dataset produced from the largest known survey examining how researchers and support professionals discover, make sense of and reuse secondary research data. 1677 respondents in 105 countries representing a variety of disciplinary domains, professional roles and stages in their academic careers completed the survey. The results represent the data needs, sources and strategies used to locate data, and the criteria employed in data evaluation of these respondents. The data detailed in this paper have the potential to be reused to inform the development of data discovery systems, data repositories, training activities and policies for a variety of general and specifc user communities. Background & Summary Reusing data created by others, so-called secondary data1, holds great promise in research2. Tis is refected in the creation of policies3, platforms (i.e. the European Open Science Cloud4), metadata schemas (i.e. the DataCite schema5) and search tools, i.e. Google Dataset (https://datasetsearch.research.google.com/) or DataSearch (https://datasearch.elsevier.com), to facilitate the discovery and reuse of data. Despite the emergence of these systems and tools, not much is known about how users interact with data in search scenarios6 or the particulars of how such data are used in research7. Tis paper describes a dataset frst analysed in the article Lost or Found? Discovering data needed for research8. Te dataset includes quantitative and qualitative responses from a global survey, with 1677 complete responses, designed to learn more about data needs, data discovery behaviours, and criteria and strategies important in evaluating data for reuse.
