Saving Mountain Lodge From 1937 to 2012, the Lodge was leased by An Óige, and was run as a Youth Hostel. An Óige Groups are also invited to use the Lodge. A new fire escape is required at the back of the building, to enable the room upstairs to be brought back into use. If you would like to contribute to this great Restoration Project, please contact Marie McDonnell: Tel: 01 8377411 (H) REMEMBER THAT – the Future of the Sunday Hikes depends on there being sufficient members willing and available to act as Leaders for both the Moderate, Easier Moderate and Easier Hikes. Co-Ordinators are also in short supply. Please volunteer your services now by ringing Marie McDonnell at 01 837 7411 (H) .

Wicklow 11 May 2019 FINAL REPORT Foreword This safety investigation is exclusively of a technical nature and the Final Report reflects the determination of the AAIU regarding the circumstances of this occurrence and its probable causes. In accordance with the provisions of Annex 131 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, Regulation (EU) No 996/20102 and Statutory Instrument No. 460 of 20093, safety investigations are in no case concerned with apportioning blame or liability. They are independent of, separate from and without prejudice to any judicial or administrative proceedings to apportion blame or liability. The sole objective of this safety investigation and Final Report is the prevention of accidents and incidents. Accordingly, it is inappropriate that AAIU Reports should be used to assign fault or blame or determine liability, since neither the safety investigation nor the reporting process has 1 been undertaken for that purpose. • List of Irish Mountain Passes
List of Irish Mountain Passes The following document is a list of mountain passes and similar features extracted from the gazetteer, Irish Landscape Names. Please consult the full document (also available at Mountain Views) for the abbreviations of sources, symbols and conventions adopted. The list was compiled during the month of June 2020 and comprises more than eighty Irish passes and cols, including both vehicular passes and pedestrian saddles. There were thousands of features that could have been included, but since I intended this as part of a gazetteer of place-names in the Irish mountain landscape, I had to be selective and decided to focus on those which have names and are of importance to walkers, either as a starting point for a route or as a way of accessing summits. Some heights are approximate due to the lack of a spot height on maps. Certain features have not been categorised as passes, such as Barnesmore Gap, Doo Lough Pass and Ballaghaneary because they did not fulfil geographical criteria for various reasons which are explained under the entry for the individual feature. They have, however, been included in the list as important features in the mountain landscape. WICKLOW - COUNTY GEOLOGICAL SITE REPORT NAME OF SITE Lough Ouler Other names used for site IGH THEME IGH7 Quaternary TOWNLAND(S) Laragh NEAREST TOWN/VILLAGE Laragh SIX INCH MAP NUMBER 17 NATIONAL GRID REFERENCE 709030E 702270N (centre of lake) 1:50,000 O.S. SHEET NUMBER 56 GSI Bedrock 1:100,000 Sheet No. 16 Outline Site Description Lough Ouler rests within a deep glacial corrie, situated in the central portion of the Wicklow Mountains, 7.5 kilometres northwest of Laragh and west of the Military Road. Geological System/Age and Primary Rock Type The feature was formed during the Quaternary (Ice Age), by glacier ice scouring out a deep, armchair-shaped hollow at the edge of Tonelagee and Stoney Top Mountains. The majority of the feature therefore comprises ice-scoured bedrock, which is porphyritic granite at the northern edge of the corrie, and slate and schists of the Lower Palaeozoic Maulin Formation along the southern edge. The granite is part of the Lugnaquillia Pluton which is one of the five plutons that comprise the late-Caledonian (405 Ma) Leinster Granite batholith. The contact between the granite and schist/slate runs through the site, evident as a vertical divide between dark coloured rocks on the left of the cliff and light coloured granite on the right, with vegetational colour differences also. Main Geological or Geomorphological Interest This corrie has an almost-vertical backwall up to 210m in height. A tarn (glacial lake) floors the feature and the corrie and lake are bounded on their eastern side by a moraine, which has been dissected by a Holocene (post-glacial) river draining the lake.
