  • ACT NOW to SAVE ROOFTOP SOLAR in WYOMING! Tell the House Corporations Committee to VOTE NO on SF 16
ACT NOW TO SAVE ROOFTOP SOLAR IN WYOMING! Tell the House Corporations Committee to VOTE NO on SF 16 BACKGROUND Net metering is a policy that allows owners of small, on-site renewable energy systems (homes, schools, and businesses) to get credit for the extra power they supply to the electricity grid. For example, when a homeowner’s rooftop solar panels generate more power than what is needed on sunny days, the excess electricity is sent to the grid and can be used by neighbors. Today in Wyoming, only about 4 in 1,000 homes use net-metering systems. However, the House Corporations Committee is considering a bill (Senate File 16) that would: 1. Require the Public Service Commission to propose a new set of rates for rooftop solar customers, without any evidence that this change is necessary. 2. Create significant uncertainty for existing and future rooftop solar owners, installers, and small businesses. 3. Slow and prevent new job growth and investment in renewable energy at a time when small businesses and Wyoming communities need this to help diversify economically. These changes fly in the face of hundreds of Wyoming citizens who have stood up again and again for the existing net-metering statute. If allowed to pass, SF 16 would have significant consequences for the future of rooftop solar in Wyoming and the ability of residents, small businesses, and local governments to benefit from producing their own renewable energy. Tell the House Corporations Committee to VOTE NO on SF 16! KEY TALKING POINTS ● A subsidy problem does not exist in Wyoming: There is no evidence that non-solar owners, elderly, or low-income customers pay higher rates to subsidize rooftop solar at Wyoming’s current integration level of 0.06%.

  • How Did Your Legislators Vote on the 2019 Bill to Repeal the Death Penalty?
How did your legislators vote on the 2019 bill to repeal the death penalty? In the 2019 Wyoming legislative session, House Bill 145, legislation that would have repealed the death penalty drew, far more support from state lawmakers than ever before. The bill had 13 co-sponsors in the House and five in the Senate (noted with an * after their name below), and had the support of leadership in both chambers. Ultimately, the bill passed in the House but failed with an 18-12 vote in the Senate. Ending the death penalty is not a partisan issue. The death penalty’s history of deep injustices, skyrocketing costs, and entrenched discrimination defies party lines. How did your legislators vote? The ACLU of Wyoming tracked the votes.
