John Wayne said Moab is “where God put the West”. This evening join us for a get-acquainted dinner. Tour the Movie Museum at Red Cliff’s Lodge. After dinner, enjoy a western film, made right here in Moab. Also enjoy some wine tasting while you enjoy the lodge. Overnight Moab Day 2: Dead Horse Point / Canyonlands National Park / Arches National Park Experience a Wild West Breakfast with beautiful views of the Colorado River. Then, we’ll venture to Dead Horse Point State Park and visit Canyonlands National Park. Enjoy a Colorado Riverside Lunch. After lunch you’ll tour Arches Nation- al Park a popular area for films. Finish the day with a relaxing Cowboy Style Dutch Oven dinner and the World famous Sound and Light Show on the Colorado River. Overnight Moab Day 3: Arches / Monument Valley Start the day with an All-American breakfast. After lunch you’ll enjoy an exciting 2 hour jetboat/ 2 hour 4x4 combo that takes you into the heart of the Canyon Country. Then enjoy Navajo Fry Bread on the bank of the river. After Lunch you’ll have free time to shop in downtown Moab and have dinner on your own. Overnight Moab Day 4: Monument Valley Then enter the Navajo Nation on your way to Monument Valley, the most filmed area in the entire West. Take plenty of pictures before you travel to Kanab, also known as “Little Hollywood.” Tonight join the group for a western BBQ dinner. Overnight Kanab Day 5: Zion / Bryce Canyon Today, visit the sheer red cliffs and 2,000-foot-high towers of, Zion National Park. After a picnic lunch, depart for nearby Bryce Canyon National Park for sightseeing. Overnight Bryce Canyon Day 6: Bryce / Salt Lake City Depart Bryce Canyon for Salt Lake City, a favorite with filmmakers Enjoy a city tour and then join the group for a special farewell dinner. Overnight Salt Lake City Day 7: Journey Home This morning you’ll enjoy the “heavenly singing” of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir (choir schedule permitting) before transferring to the airport to begin your journey home. ARCHES NATIONAL PARK Double Arch Although there are arches and natural bridges found all over the world, these natural phenomena nowhere are found in such profusion as they are in Arches National Park, located in Grand County, Utah, north of the town of Moab. The Colorado River forms the southern boundary of the park, and the LaSal Mountains are visible from most viewpoints inside the park`s boundaries. The park is situated in the middle of the Colorado Plateau, a vast area of deep canyons and prominent mountain ranges that also includes Canyonlands National Park, Colorado National Monument, Natural Bridges National Monument, and Dinosaur National Monument. The Colorado Plateau is covered with layers of Jurassic-era sandstones; the type most prevalent within the Park is called Entrada Sandstone, a type that lends itself to the arch cutting that gives the park its name. Arches National Park covers more than 73,000 acres, or about 114 square miles. There are more than 500 arches found inside the park′s boundaries, and the possibility exists that even more may be discovered. The concentration of arches within the park is the result of the angular topography, much exposed bare rock, and erosion on a major scale. In such an arid area - annual precipitation is about 8.5 inches per year - it is not surprising that the agent of most erosion is wind and frost. Flora and fauna in the park and its immediate surrounding area are mainly desert adaptations, except in the canyon bottoms and along the Colorado River, where a riverine or riparian environment is found.

This mild warm up is a beautiful loop trail that will take us along a single track trail, past waterfalls and pools of cool blue water all nesting beneath the massive monolith cliffs of Zion. Afterward we will drive up canyon and walk two trails known as the Riverwalk and Big Bend. The Virgin River, descending from the upper plateau, has worked its way over time through the sandstone carving out the main Zion corridor. You’ll be amazed by the stunning views as we walk along the river. Following these hikes, we will stop for lunch at the Zion Lodge which sits in the park. After lunch, we will drive to the eastern side of the park and through the Carmel Tunnel which was carved out of the solid cliff face in the 1920’s. We will start first at Checkerboard Mesa where you can explore the massive sandstone monoliths. Monument Valley, Arizona, Processing Site COMMUNITY INFORMATION Monument Valley Site Background 1955–1968 Uranium-ore processing mill operates at the Monument Valley site, on land leased from the Navajo Nation. During milling operations, chemicals from mill-tailings piles and ponds leaked into the soil and groundwater. 1968 Mill closes and land is returned to the Navajo Nation. Mill buildings and equipment are torn down. Monument Valley, Arizona, Processing Site (1958) 1992–1994 U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) cleans up materials from former milling operations. 1994 Mill tailings are shipped to a disposal cell in Mexican Hat, Utah. A cover that prevents radon gas from escaping, and reduces the amount of water that drains through the disposal cell, is constructed over the materials. 1997–Present DOE performs long-term care at the Monument Valley site. DOE Conducts Tests To Determine if Plants Can Aid in Groundwater Cleanup (2014) DOE Activities at the Monument Valley Site Site Activities DOE, in coordination with the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA), installed waterlines to the homes of Monument Valley residents and is providing a clean water supply to those residents.
