Grazie alla mia famiglia, Riccardo e Aurora che sono stati sempre pronti a darmi una mano e hanno visto con me tanti di questi film. 3 Introduzione Nel corso della tesi di triennale mi ero interessata alla struttura mitica nascosta all’interno del cinema popolare dagli anni d’oro al contemporaneo. All’interno delle categorie evidenziate ce n’era una che si distingueva dalle altre, poiché non era propriamente mitologia, ma di questa aveva molte caratteristiche, ossia l’epica. Non sapevo che nel frattempo il mondo della letteratura era alla riscoperta di questo genere attraverso il movimento italiano detto New Italian Epic1 del collettivo Wu Ming. Wu Ming individua in questo genere che da sempre ci ha abituato a vederlo cambiare forma, attraverso media diversi, la matrice letteraria dell’ultimo decennio. Come scrivono Ruggero Eugeni nel suo saggio Il destino dell’epos2 e Roy Menarini in Il cinema dopo il cinema. Dieci idee sul cinema americano 2001-20103, oggi, ancor più che la letteratura, l’epica ha invaso sia i cinema che la tv. I motivi per cui l’epica possiede gli elementi giusti per rinascere proprio oggi sono da cercare nelle teorie sociologiche che trattano il rapporto tra il pubblico e i media contemporanei, come scrive Henry Jenkins,4 ma anche in un periodo storico di forte crisi a partire dagli avvenimenti dell’11 Settembre. Come i romanzi del manifesto di Wu Ming, e con qualcosa in più, l’insieme di questi film e serie tv, presenta alcuni elementi stilistici e strutturali che li accomunano: il forte realismo, la struttura narrativa complessa, l’attitudine popolare, gli elementi fantastici, un eroe combattuto e pieno di lati oscuri, e una visione sostanzialmente cupa del reale che nasconde un’esile speranza. É sostanziale però capire se, al di là della grandiosità delle scene di massa, che l’introduzione delle migliori tecniche CGI5 permettono ormai di creare quasi facilmente, ci sia del materiale proprio dell’epica occidentale tradizionale. A partire da Omero quindi, attraverso alcuni strumenti indispensabili, come i classici di Platone e Aristotele o i più moderni testi di Haimsworth o Bowra si è cercato di scoprire sia se il termine “Epico” venga usato propriamente parlando di film come: il ciclo de Il Signore degli anelli6 di Peter Jackson, 3007 di Zack Snyder, la trilogia del Cavaliere Oscuro8 di Nolan, sia se questi possano far parte di un macrogenere che si potrebbe chiamare Nuova Epica Internazionale. 1 Wu Ming, New italian epic : letteratura, sguardo obliquo, ritorno al futuro, Einaudi, Torino 2009. 2 Ruggero Eugeni, Il destino dell’epos in Il cinema della convergenza : industria, racconto, pubblico, a cura di Zecca Federico, Milano-Udine, Mimesis, 2012. 3 Menarini Roy, Il cinema dopo il cinema. Se nel corso della prima metà del novecento gli esempi di letteratura epica sono ancora molti (come Ernst Junger o J.R.R. Tolkien), soprattutto nel periodo tra le due guerre, nella seconda metà è il cinema a fornire i migliori esempi. Nel 2001, dopo cinquant’anni di attesa esce in sala la trasposizione del più noto tra i romanzi epici moderni: Il Signore degli anelli9. Nel secondo capitolo si analizzano quindi, in maniera comparata, gli elementi epici propri del libro e del film e come questi varino a seconda degli anni e del mezzo di diffusione. Il film esce dopo gli attentati dell’11 Settembre, e il successo di questa saga epico fantastica, e di molte altre, viene ricondotto proprio alla reazione a questa tragedia. La stessa data è ritenuta un momento di svolta dal collettivo di scrittori Wu Ming, come illustrato nel loro manifesto, in cui elencano le caratteristiche dell’epica degli anni duemila. Si riscontrano le medesime caratteristiche in uno dei film d’ambientazione “epico - classica” di maggior successo degli ultimi anni: 300, di Zack Snyder, che analizzo nel terzo capitolo. Tra gli elementi caratterizzanti del cinema epico c’è però la figura eroica, quasi assente dai romanzi italiani. La complessità del tratteggio dei nuovi eroi viene affrontata nel quarto capitolo attraverso l’evoluzione di alcuni personaggi del cinema e della letteratura popolare, con particolare attenzione all’Uomo Pipistrello, che da Batman diventa il Cavaliere Oscuro. Il viaggio è il modo in cui si struttura tipicamente l’avventura eroica, secondo il monomito di Joseph Campbell, cioè se il racconto epico può riguardare anche una sola battaglia, prima e dopo c’è sempre un viaggio, un’andata e un ritorno, con diverse motivazioni. With the release of Nielsen’s Holiday ratings still a month away, it’s too early to stack up the Christmas format’s 2014 ratings to past years. But results from the December survey, which covers November 6-December 3, shows a slightly softer November-to December gain in 2014 than in past years. The new numbers provide a peek at the format’s performance in the early going of the holiday season. The new Nielsen analysis shows the AC format’s December 2014 ratings are identical to those of 2013 – in both the 6+ (8.5) and 25-54 (8.2) demos. AC is one-tenth of a share lower in 18-34 (7.2) than this time last year. But AC, which historically accounts for the most Christmas format converts, experienced a less robust November-to December gain in 2014 than in past years. In 2010 and 2011, AC grew by more than two shares from November to December, improving from 7.8 to 10.0 in 2011 and from 7.2 to 9.5 in 2012. Last December the format gained just one share from November (7.5-8.5) and this year it increased 1.5 shares (7.0-8.5). The slightly smaller growth from November to December may be due to a combination of factors. For one, 2014 saw AC hit its lowest 6+ numbers ever in PPM measurement, according to Nielsen.

Annual EEO Public File Report For WXRI-WTJY-WRFE-WPIR-WTTX The purpose of this EEO Public File Report (“Report”) is to comply with Section 73.2080(c) (6) of the Federal Communications Commission’s (“FCC”) rules. This report has been prepared for placement in the public inspection files as well as on the website. The information contained in this report covers the time period beginning August 1, 2013 to and including July 31, 2014. The FCC’s EEO Rules requires that this Report contain the following information: 1. A list of all full-time vacancies filled by the Station during the Applicable Period; 2. For each such vacancy, the recruitment source(s) utilized to fill the vacancy (including, if applicable, organizations entitled to notification pursuant to Section 73.2080(c)(1)(ii) of the new EEO Rule, which should be separately identified), identified by name, address, contact person, and telephone number; 3. The recruitment source that referred the hiree for each full-time vacancy during the applicable period; 4. Data reflecting the total number of persons interviewed for full-time vacancies during the applicable period and the total number of interviewees referred by each recruitment source utilized in connection with such vacancies; and 5. The Commission’s sponsorship identification laws protect consumers and promote fair competition by requiring that the sponsors of paid programming material be clearly identified. Those laws are based on the principle that listeners and viewers are entitled to know who seeks to persuade them. The disclosures required by those laws provide listeners and viewers with information concerning the source of material in order to prevent misleading or deceiving those listeners and viewers. Enforcement of the sponsorship identification laws also protects fair competition among advertisers. We seek to prevent sponsors from gaining unfair advantage by paying stations to present promotional messages without appropriate disclosures, while their competitors observe the rules and present their content as properly acknowledged commercial advertisements. 3. The Bureau investigated a complaint that the Station broadcast announcements supporting a hydro-electronic energy project in New Hampshire without disclosing the identity of the company that sponsored the announcements.
