The majority of the training contracts and pupillages will commence in September 2022. A small number will, however, be available for those looking to start in September 2021 The majority of the places are based in London. However, two Trainee Solicitor places being offered by GLD (to start in 2022) are based in Leeds. Over a two year training contract, trainee solicitors will spend six months each in four seats. Pupil barristers will divide their pupillage year between the recruiting department and a set of chambers and complete their second year of the two year training contract in the recruiting department. The GLP otherwise treats trainee solicitors and pupil barristers (collectively called legal trainees) the same. Work and on-the-job training depends upon the GLP department in which trainees are placed, but will cover the basic essentials of research, drafting, interviewing and advising negotiating, advocacy and advisory services. Legal Trainees can expect to gain experience in public and private law, human rights law, EU law and other areas of practice such as commercial law and employment law. They’ll have an active role to play in their department’s casework. They will liaise with senior policy makers, Government Ministers and counsel and they’ll have the opportunity to participate in the legislative process itself. This does not have to be in law. Alternatively, we will accept applications from those who hold a Certificate of Academic Standing from the Bar Standards Board (BSB) or the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and from Fellows and graduates of CILEx who have satisfied the SRA’s academic stage of training. Please note that applicants will need to have successfully completed the Graduate Diploma in Law (if applicable), the Legal Practice Course (LPC) or the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) before starting their training contract or pupillage. Selection process details Selection process will include an initial application, online tests, and an assessment centre. At the assessment centre, you will be assessed on your performance of the essential criteria alongside strength-based questions. Feedback will only be provided if you attend an assessment centre.
