THIS IS WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE 6th Annual Recognizing the Fastest Growing Cougar owned or led Businesses of 2019 About The Cougar 100 The University of Houston and the University of Houston Alumni Association welcomes all outstanding Cougar companies to our established community of business excellence, the Cougar 100! The Cougar 100 is fast becoming our most exciting program for recognizing our Cougar owned and operated businesses. Now in its sixth year, the Cougar 100 has welcomed over 200 companies to the list since its inception. This year, we welcome 14 companies to the list for the first time. Companies on the list are ranked by percentage of compound annual growth in sales or revenue across a three-year period with gross revenues above $250,000 and in business for 5 years or more. The Cougar 100 members will automatically be included in the Cougar Business to Business Network. The Cougar Business to Business Network will showcase Cougar-owned businesses, connect them with alumni and fellow business owners and support “Cougars should be doing business with Cougars”. Additionally, all those who submit will have the opportunity to take part in the UH Corporate Partner program. PKF Texas in Houston is the independent accounting firm that tabulates the results. They provide similar services to awards programs such as the FasTech 50 in Houston. As a Cougar business owner or operator, you want to be a part of this program. To nominate your company for the list next year, please contact Jarred Fancher at 713-743-7849 or by e-mail at [email protected]. Carlos de Aldecoa Bueno is President of Eximius Coffee, LLC, Cadeco Industries, and Buffalo Bayou Distilleries. Located near downtown in Houston’s trending East End, the enterprises are the modern incarnation of a 3rd generation, family-owned group of companies focused exclusively on the food and beverage industry. In 1995, after substantial capital investment and hands-on management by Mr. de Aldecoa, Cadeco Industries retrofitted and modernized the iconic Uncle Ben’s rice processing facility on Clinton Drive, converting the facility into the largest and most diversified independent bulk coffee processing facility in North America. Taking advantage of the proximity to the expansive Port of Houston, Cadeco receives and processes on a daily basis over one million pounds of coffee from all over the world. In addition to operating 4 New York Board of Trade (ICE)-certified coffee warehouses, Cadeco utilizes state-of-the-art technologies to provide bulk silo storage, cleaning, blending, steaming, decaffeination, and handling services for coffee industry participants from around the globe. Eximius Coffee, LLC is a national roasting and packaging operation for coffee and tea products. In addition to packaging and selling its own brands, Eximius is a major national player in private label beverage production for companies such as HEB, Walgreens, Dollar General, Maxwell House, Meijer, and Aldi, among others. At the end of 2006, Mr. de Aldecoa formed Maximus Coffee Group LP and successfully completed the acquisition of Houston’s historic Maxwell House coffee plant from Kraft Foods. A complement to Cadeco’s bulk handling operations, the Maximus plant was North America’s largest integrated roasting, decaffeination, soluble and packaging coffee facility, while additionally manufacturing rice packaging and powdered soft drinks. The facility underwent substantial growth from one customer to over 50 customers and 500 employees. In 2014 Mr. de Aldecoa sold Maximus Coffee Group to a global commodity trader based in Switzerland. In 2014 Mr. de Aldecoa started Buffalo Bayou Distilleries as a distiller, rectifier and bottler of spirits. A Houston, Texas, distiller, Buffalo Bayou Distilleries -- also known as Gulf Coast Distillers -- owns over 12 brands and packages third-party brands. Today, Gulf Coast Distillers is the largest whiskey distillery in the State of Texas and ships product to over 10 states as well as internationally. Also in 2014 Mr. de Aldecoa started a joint operation with Wholesome Sweeteners in La Porte, Texas to store and package organic specialty sugars and liquid products in a new 300,000 square foot facility with 4 active packaging lines. The company packages for the Wholesome brand as well as most of the national retail chains. Mr. de Aldecoa is a graduate of the University of Houston with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He has been active in growing the coffee industry in Harris County and worked with community leaders to form the Greater Houston Coffee Association. His goal is to bring additional coffee warehouses, roasters, retailers, and the many associated service providers to Houston to further consolidate Greater Houston as the most important major coffee industry center in the United States. He has also served as a Board Member of the Greater Houston Partnership, the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the East End Development District. Mr. de Aldecoa is a member of the Houston chapter of YPO and serves on the Board of Boys and Girls Country, the Houston Zoo, and the Advisory Board of Amegy Bank. From his 3rd generation Houston family, Mr. de Aldecoa plans to continue to serve coffee, sweetener and spirits consumers of the many generations to come. Congratulations to our 2019 Cougar 100 companies! All companies are UH Alumni owned or operated and ranked by average growth percentage.
