(13) Elections to the Maharashtra State Legislature in 2019 were held on October 21, 2019, to elect all 288 members of the State Legislature. After a 61.4% turnout, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena (SHS) won the majority of the vote. After disagreements over the formation of a government, the alliance was dissolved, leading to a political crisis. Since the Council of Ministers was not formed after no party was able to form a government, the state introduced the president's rule. On 23 November 2019, Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as Chief Minister and Ajit Pawar was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister. However, they both resigned on 26 November 2019 before the sex test, and on 28 November 2019, Shiv Sena, the NCP and Congress formed a government under the new Maha Vikas Agadi (MVA) alliance, with Uddhav Thackeray as Chief Minister. Previous Elections to the Assembly were held in October 2014. After the elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party formed a majority government, with Devendra Fadnavis (BJP) becoming chief minister. Election schedule Nagpur (south) voters gather to see their names on the polling day in the morning. The Electoral Commission has announced the date of the elections to the Assembly in the state of Maharashtra. The notice date for the survey is September 27, 2019. 2019 Polling date October 21, 2019 Vote count October 24, 2019 Political parties and the campaign National Democratic Alliance Election Alliance of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was formed between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena (SHS). Later, however, SHS left the NDA and joined UPA seeing an inability to share power with each other. A pre-election alliance of the United Progressive Alliance (ICAC) was established under the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NNS). The INC filled the nominations for 145 seats and the NCP by 123. Other parties supporting the UPA alliance were Raju Shetty Swabhimani Shetkari Sagtan (4 seats), the Farmers and Workers' Party (6 seats), the Samajwadi Party (3 seats), Bahujan Vikas Agadi (3 seats) and Ravi Rana under The Leadership of Swabhiman Sangatan (1st place). The opposition has completed the total number of candidates for 2 seats in the districts of Manhatao and Cotrud. The Republican People's Party (3 seats) and the Bahujan Republican Socialist Party (2 seats) will be sticking out their candidates for the SYMBOLS of the INC and the NCP. Samajwadi's party later withers its support for the alliance to instead contest seven seats separately. Shiv Sena later joined UPA after leaving the NDA. Other different prominent parties in Maharashtra's political scenario do not unite with either of the two unions. That includes Vanchit Bahujan Agadi, who will contest all 288 seats. The all-Indian Majlis-e-Ittehad Mulimin will contest 44 seats, mostly from Muslim-majority constituencies. Maharashtra Vavnirman Sena will contest out of 103 places. The Electoral Commission received a total of 5,543 candidates, of which some 3,239 candidates were dropped after others were rejected or their nominations withdrawn. The Chiplong constituency has the fewest candidates (3 candidates), while the Nande South constituency had the maximum number of candidates (38 candidates).
