Hazard Title: Pure Water Crisis in Aila Affected Area Location: of

Event Details: Thousands of people in of Pirojpur district of have been suffering from pure water as it is one of the massive Aila affected seashore. Moreover, Excess of salinity intrusion and continuous dropping down of layer of mineral water make it difficult to set up new tube-well.

A short snap of present situation of water source in Mothbaria Upazila: Reserve Pond: In Mathbaria there are 4 reserve ponds under the local municipality to ensure pure water ponds. At present, the reserve ponds water becomes polluted with garbage as there is no way to drink that water. Shallow Tube-well: Most of the Shallow tube-well’s water becomes unhygienic with arsenic and salinity intrusion. Deep Tube-well: Local municipality has set up only 4 deep tube-wells to reduce water crisis. But mineral water layer is going down day by day and as it is therefore those deep tube-wells are not supplying water properly.

PSF: BRAC has set up 45 PSF funded by Oxfam which are inadequate to met up the enormous water demand. Moreover, lake of monitoring and proper long term planning has damaged most of the PSF of total 450 PSF. Surface Water Treatment Plant: A humanitarian organization named Proshika has supplied only 3000 liter water per day under the surface water treatment plant which could full fill a little of the whole water demand.

As it seems here that water source is every where but a few to supply pure water. As a result, people have to take dirty water as lake of downpour make it dried up almost all the natural and man made source of water. This is how everyday a respective number of people affected by water borne diseases.
