2.1 Please provide a description of project? This should include information on current physical appearance, size, use and ownership)

Glasgow East Arts Company (GEAC) is currently working to enhance existing artworks and environmental aspects of the park with the housing association and residents association. In particular;

- to develop soft landscaping - to develop Karla Black’s house and flagpole (Karla is currently representing at the Venice Bienalle and on the Turner Prize shortlist) - to enhance the look and feel of the park to encourage more visitors through interpretation - to contribute to the development of environmental development of the local area

Glenburn Park was the subject of capital improvements a few years ago including these public art commissions by Karla Black. It was always intended to see how the park was used, and to develop opportunities for growth and increased usege fo the part. The fact that Karla’s career has developed significantly in this time, presents an opportunity for the community.

The mosaic will be produced by Alex Frost, a major Glasgow artist, and it will comprise profiles of local people. 2.2 Please indicate which of the Baillieston, Shettleston & Greater Easterhouse sector priorities this initiative will contribute to?

3.1 Summary Description

To enhance existing artworks and environmental aspects of Glenburn Park

3.2 Headline Aim

This project aims to develop Glenburn Park physically through environmental improvements to Glenburn Park and to develop existing public artworks since they were first created a few years ago.

This will make the park more attractive and useable for local residents.

There is the added bonus that Karla Black has become one of Scotland’s most significant artists and as such, there is undoubtedly going to be increased visitors to the park from outwith the area.

Through an enhanced environment there is all sorts of potential for business growth including the development of ongoing, year round outdoor events.

3.3 Project Key Objectives

This project aims to develop Glenburn Park physically through environmental improvements to Glenburn Park and to develop existing public artworks since they were first created a few years ago. 2 - We will do this by updating the public artworks on the basis of feedback gained from the community through the residents association - We will achieves this by adding to the soft landscaping and providing ‘how to’ and ‘sharing events’ on planting and growing food for local residents

Through an enhanced environment there is all sorts of potential for business growth including the development of ongoing, year round outdoor events.

- We will achieve this through discussion with the housing association and creating an annual calander of environmental events supported through the Long Hot Days programme for example - 3.4 Describe how the project will be delivered and how the aims and objectives will be achieved

GEAC and HA will deliver the project through a range of sub contractors and strong project management

GEAC and Easthall HA have strong track records in capital and environmental projets

GEAC will ensure the aims and objectives are being met through strong project management and project schedules

3.5 Please list all partners involved in this initiative

Currently the 2 key partners are Easthall HA and Easthall Residents Association. There is scope to bring in more partners as the project develops.

3.6 Please describe how your project is managed.

GEAC is managed through a team of employees headed up by an Arts Manager, who in turn reports to a Board. GEAC is a registered company in Scotland with charitable status.

GEAC undertakes a wide range of arts, events and cultural projects across the wider Glasgow North East area which often have a complex partnership and investment base.

GEAC works with other professional where relevant. In this instance working with architects, surveyors and other trades is vital.

3.7 Please provide details of any community/client engagement involved in the development of your project?

Currently, the community are engaged in the project through Easthall HA and the residents association. This project builds on previous work in the park, by setting up events where residents can input to the design process and planned programme of activities. In the past for example, this has included GEAC and / or artists taking up residence in Glenburn Community Centre providing workshops and other activity.
