Shower Washes Away Our Bath Grand Interior Designs replaced the bath with a large walk-in shower for customers in Crosspool alk-in shower cubicles are popular with home owners looking to future-proof their bathroom... making it easier to use as they Wgrow older. Grand Interior Designs have designed many shower rooms, which often means ‘chucking out the bath’, Now which was what they were asked to do by the owners of the Crosspool property featured here. As you can see from before and after shots, the new shower room is sleek and accessible. Where the bath once was there now stands the showering cubicle, complete with a fold-away showering seat. When creating shower rooms, Grand Interior Designs ensure that basins, loos and storage units are positioned so they do not create obstructions, and that everything is as spacious and user-friendly as possible.

Customer comment “My wife and I are getting a little older, and wanted to ensure our bathroom would be easy for us to use in the years ahead. Neither of us used the bath very often, so it seemed sensible to opt for a large showering cubicle. We asked Grand Interior Designs to do the work because out of all the people we spoke to, they had the best ideas.” Before Now

Designed & Built With Jon Stocks, and his sons Jon, Dan, and Kieran of DWS Ltd. Slam The Door On Rot

DWS fitted a front door at this property in Fulwood - using Accoya wood that will not decay or shrink un, rain, gales, hail, snow, frost... unless wooden front doors are well maintained they eventually crack-up and begin falling apart, writes Jon Stocks, of DWS. But doors made from Accoya wood can withstand Swhatever the weather throws at them because they do not rot or shrink. That door pictured on the left is one we made and fitted for a customer in Fulwood (as well as the window frame and pane alongside it). The finishing touches were red paint, a five-lever mortise lock and assorted door furniture. Accoya is the trade name for softwood that has effectively been pickled by having its chemical structure altered to dramatically reduce the decaying process... even when submerged in water for many years. Accoya has properties that match, or exceed, those of the best tropical hardwoods, and treated woods. It comes from renewable sources, and can be used for any kind of joinery project. in re-creating period windows. At DWS we are experts... We replace single-glazed frames and panes with units that are energy efficient, but look as if they were made in Victorian/Edwardian days. You can choose either mock-sashes (that look like sliding sashes, but without the pulley-operating systems), or fully functioning sliding-sash windows. We also restore frames by cutting out rotten parts, then replacing them with new timber and a flexible, bonded-resin that allows wood to breathe, and stops cracking.

The rot has set in for rot, because softwood can have its chemical structure altered to resist decay - creating Accoya, which provides an excellent material for DWS to work with. It has a 50-year guarantee

Wonderful Worktops With Teegan & Darryl, of Sheffield Solid Surfaces

There is a unique form of surfacing called Corian, which can flow seamlessly above and around kitchen cabinetry - forming sinks, splashbacks, and sealing every nook and cranny avid Pugsley says he is impressed with the Corian worktops and splashbacks that Sheffield Solid Surfaces fitted in the kitchen of his house at Totley. He speaks as a man who spent his Dworking life project managing the fitting-out of government offices, doing his best to ensure that he got CORIAN: value for money. David appreciates quality fittings when he sees them, and at the Ideal Homes Exhibition immediately snapped up For Seamless the kitchen units pictured here. That was in 1985. David’s kitchen floor tiles are even older, but still in good shape even though he laid them in 1979, soon after Kitchen Worktops he and his wife Carol bought their four-bedroomed detached house in Totley. They had moved from London so that David could help prepare offices within the newly- built Manpower Services Commission building at Moorfoot. When Carol passed away two years ago, David decided his kitchen needed a modest revamp. The work surfaces (fitted in 1985) were laminate, and needed replacing. “I looked online at various materials,” says David, “and came across Corian. I was attracted to its seamless finish, ease of maintenance and reasonable price. The remarkable thing about Corian is that it can easily be made good as new if it is damaged. Another feature I liked was that the worktops can flow up into splashbacks, which means there are no gaps for water and dirt to gather.” David visited the showroom of Sheffield Solid Surfaces near Meadowhall, and was impressed with what he saw. “You can’t beat inspecting a product for yourself,” he says, “and I decided Corian was perfect. I had it fitted on the three surfaces in my kitchen, along with a splashback that runs up to the cooker hood. The work was done in a day. I was so impressed with the finish that I contacted the people at Which? Trusted Traders and suggested they sign-up Sheffield Solid Surfaces, which they did.” *Darryl Anderson and his wife Teegan own and run Sheffield Solid Surfaces. Darryl has been manufacturing and fitting Corian surfaces for the past 15 years, and finds it amusing that people cannot understand how he and his fitters achieves a seamless finish. The unique material they work with was created in the 1960s by a chemist working for American chemicals giant Du Pont. Corian comes in a multitude of shades. It feels warm and silky smooth, yet is “bomb-proof,” which was how one of Darryl’s customers has described the material. David Pugsley chose ‘Grey Onyx’ Corian surfaces for his kitchen

Floors In Store With Damian Moore, of Layers Carpets Carpets - Crosspool and Dronfield

We fitted heavy-duty contract carpets for the To Share communal area of an apartment block in Broomhill to greatly reduce the noise e don’t just look after flooring solutions for homes. We also do commercial work, writes Damian Moore, of Layers. WOn this page is an example of heavy-duty contract carpeting we recently fitted to the communal landing and stairs of an apartment block in Broomhill. Our brief was to fit attractive, hard wearing surfacing to replace worn carpet tiles. Residents of the four apartments in the block wanted carpeting that would reduce the noise of footsteps. To do this we selected a ‘class-4’ commercial use carpet with a 15 year guarantee for very heavy wear. It is made with a solution-dyed nylon which means it is bleach cleanable and fade resistant. It also has an excellent flammability rating, important for communal areas. We used the commercial ‘double-stick’ method of installation to ensure it will cope with heavy traffic throughout its life. This involves sticking the carpet to the underlay, then adhering the underlay to the floor. CUSTOMER COMMENT “At a meeting of our residents we chose colours and looked through samples Layers gave us. Damien and Richard were very helpful and professional. The new carpeting has made things much quieter.” LAYERS offers a complete service We expertly lay all types of residential and commercial flooring, and have the joinery skills to trim doors/kitchen plinths, and repair squeaky floorboards. If necessary, we can replace your old skirting boards with new ones. Also, we are happy to move and replace heavy items of furniture while doing our work for you, and will dispose of old floor coverings. We can fit all kinds of commercial flooring including entrance matting and safety floors for kitchens, toilets, bathrooms, and workshops. We also fit carpet tiles, stair nosings and other contract carpets for offices and communal areas. At our showroom you can borrow samples to see how they look at your home/office. Many people keep putting off Pa decision until a crisis arrives, often their rapid decline in health. They are then in a position where a move to secure accommodation must be made quickly, yet their finances might not be in order, and they have probably not chosen a suitable place to live. It is always best to take action before circumstances force your hand, though monetary considerations need to be carefully assessed. This is why we are holding a financial and legal seminar at Loxley Park on October 1st (10.15am, for 10.30am start). Entrance is free. A buffet lunch will be served. Speakers are solicitor and Grapevine Magazine columnist Rosalind Watchorn, and Angela Guylee, of Whittington Goddard Associates, who is a specialist in advising people about long-term care in later life.
