Situated o the North Wales coast it is an area of outstanding natural beauty and is an important tourist destination. The College received the one of the highest UK Government College inspection results in the UK. The recent QAA review was very positive and highlighted many strengths. In 2009 the College was awarded the British Council Beacon Award for International Student Support. The College has around 19,000 students, 4,000 of which are full time learners. We have been actively recruiting students internationally for over four years and currently have around 80 full-time International students The main countries of origin include Vietnam, China, India, Nepal, and Japan. A number of students from EU countries also study with us. Students study a range of programmes including A levels, International Baccalaureate, International Foundation Programme, Vocational courses, HND’s, Foundation Degrees, Honours Degrees, and professional programmes of study. Higher level courses are validated through the University of Wales. Courses are offered in a range of curriculum areas including Sports, Art and Design, Media Studies, Music, Science and Maths, Engineering, Boat Building and Marine Studies, Construction, Motor Vehicle, Business Management, Computing, Health and Care, Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy, Hospitality and Catering, and Travel and Tourism. The College is a centre of excellence for the Tourism, Hospitality and Catering, and Motor Vehicle curriculum areas. College facilities are outstanding and include over 1900 computers, Sports Centre, Learning Resource Centre, Hair and Beauty salons, state of the art studios and workshops, training kitchens, restaurants and a travel office. The international office has two dedicated support staff to guide and support overseas students with all welfare and academic matters. The College acquired its Erasmus University Charter in 2009 and is new to Erasmus mobility projects. Location The College is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty and yet is only 80 miles from the city of Manchester with its International airport. The main industry in the region is tourism and the area attracts many International visitors. The main town, Llandudno is currently enjoying considerable investment in its infrastructure including the development of a major international conference centre. Many of our students work part-time in hotels, restaurants, and tourist attractions, and work experience opportunities are plentiful. We provide accommodation for students with local families and arrange a number of visits and activities for overseas students. Achievements and Accolades- Hospitality and Catering • January 1999 - Estyn Quality Inspection grade one results awarded for Hospitality and catering (the first in Wales). • March 2005 - Estyn Quality Inspection Grade one results awarded for Hospitality and Catering. • May 2000 - Winners of the ‘Best Hotel School in Europe’ competition in Maastricht, Europe. • September 2001 – Accolade of being a Network of Excellence in catering for Wales. • January 2003 - Candidate from Llandrillo competed in the Food Service World Skills Olympics in Switzerland. • September 2004 - ARAMARK award ‘UK College of the Year 2004’ awarded by the Academy of Food and Wine Service. • January 2005 - Restaurant Magazine selected Llandrillo as regional winner of ‘College Restaurant of the Year 2005’. International co-operation. Llandrillo College is involved in a number of international co-operation partnerships in the areas of A levels, Culinary Arts, Travel and Tourism, Hospitality Management and Construction. These are in Germany, Austria, China, Vietnam, Pakistan, Croatia and Morocco.
