INDIAN OLYMPIC ASSOCIATION QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER | JULY AUGUST SEPTEMBER 2019 From the President’s Desk Dear IOA Members and Colleagues, It has been very heartening that NOC India has till date secured 18 Olympic quotas for the Games of the XXXII Olympiad, Tokyo 2020. I congratulate all the athletes who have secured these Olympic places and hope that many more quota positions are further secured in the run-up to the Tokyo 2020. I would like to applaud the efforts made by the respective National Sports Federations, coaches, team officials and support staff without whose collaborative and collective effort such performances would not have been possible. With less than 300 days left for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, I hope that the focus and discipline will continue towards our common pursuit to win medals for India. Our Chef de Mission for Tokyo 2020 recently attended the CDM meeting in Tokyo. The visit was very constructive and all efforts are being made by IOA to ensure that the best possible support will be provided to the Indian Contingent. My heartfelt remembrance and tribute to Raja Bhalendra Singh of Patiala on his birth centenary 9 August 1919-2019, the former President of IOA and IOC Member 1947-1992. I would like congratulate all our esteemed colleagues on their recent re-appointments in the International Sport Organisations and am glad to see our growing footprint in the world of International sports. Recently, our member NSFs have hosted international sporting events in India. This is a healthy sign for Indian Sports and IOA’s ambitious future in becoming an international hub of sporting events.
