Paradise Lost – Live at Rockpalast 1995 (62:27, CD+DVD, MiG-Music, 2019) Beim Rockpalast handelt es sich um eine Fernsehsendung des Westdeutschen Rundfunks, welche mit Unterbrechungen seit 1974 existiert. Im Rahmen des Formates wurden in der Vergangenheit auch immer wieder Festivals produziert, um später die Auftritte der verschiedenen Bands im Fernsehen zu übertragen. Der Titel „Live at Rockpalast 1995“ für dieses Album ist daher erst einmal ein wenig irreführend, da es sich bei vorliegendem Ton- und Bilddokument um den Auftritt von Paradise Lost beim Bizarre Festival 1995 handelt. Das Bizarre existierte zu diesem Zeitpunkt schon seit acht Jahren und war gerade auf dem Weg, sich zu Deutschlands Festival Nummer Eins für alternative Musik jeglicher Couleur zu mausern. Bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt waren u.a. so namhafte Bands wie Siouxsie and the Banshees, New Model Army, Iggy Pop, Einstürzende Neubauten, Ramones, The Pogues, Pixies, Sonic Youth, Bad Religion, Die Ärzte und Biohazard beim Bizarre Festival aufgetreten. Dabei hatte das Festival über die Jahre hinweg immer wieder seinen Veranstaltungsort gewechselt. Nach mehreren Gastspielen in Berlin und auf dem Loreleyfelsen in Sankt Goarshausen sowie Gastspielen in Gießen und Alsfeld, fand das Bizarre 1994 zum ersten Mal in Köln statt. 1995 kehrten die Veranstalter in die Domstadt zurück. Allerdings wählten sie dieses Mal nicht den Kölner Jugendpark als Location, sondern stattdessen einen staubigen und herzlosen Deutzer Parkplatz namens P23 – jenen Ort, an dem schon im Folgejahr mit dem Beginn der Kölnarena (heute Lanxess Arena) begonnen werden sollte. Paradise Lost waren 1995 im Zenit ihres Erfolges angekommen. Die Band aus dem englischen Halifax war Anfang der 90er neben Anathema und My Dying Bride zu den „Big Three“ des Gothic Metal gerechnet worden.

Abstract The reasons and peculiarities of the occurrence of heavy metal as a musical genre, its influence on other genres and on society as a whole are researched. It also traced how the genre evolved and changed over its lifetime. Keywords: heavy metal, rock, guitar, rock band, guitar solo. Introduction Metal(or heavy metal) is a genre of rock music that includes such styles that are virtuosic, powerful, and intense. Heavy metal has roots in blues rock, psychedelic rock, and acid rock and characterized with a thick, massive aggressive sound, highly emphatic beats, extended guitar solos, dense bass-and-drum sound, vigorous vocals, amplified distortion, and overall loudness. Metal developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and now it have millions of fans called "headbangers" or "metalheads". Although early heavy metal bands such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Deep Purple attracted large audiences, they were often critically reviled at the time, a status common throughout the history of the genre. In the mid-1970s, Judas Priest helped spur the genre's evolution by discarding much of its blues influence. The New Wave of British Heavy Metal followed in a similar vein, introducing a punk rock sensibility and an increasing emphasis on speed.[3][4] There are a lot of heavy metal festivals worldwide, both touring and stationary, dedicated to heavy metal subgenres and heavy metal itself.

! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! BIOGRAFIE! ! ! ! GURD entstanden 1994 aus der Asche der Schweizer Power-Thrash-Legende Poltergeist. Stilistisch entschied sich die Band für eine etwas modernere, härtere !Richtung. So verband man Thrash und Groove zu einer durchschlagenden Mischung. Zwischen 1995 und 1998 veröffentlichten GURD vier von der Fachpresse sehr wohlwollend aufgenommene Alben (gurD/1995, Addicted/1995, D-Fect/1996, Down The Drain/1998). Zweimal gewann man den Soundcheck im deutschen Rock Hard Magazin. Es folgten mehrere Tourneen mit Bands wie The Spudmonsters, Schweisser, Life Of Agony, Stuck Mojo, Pro-Pain oder Such a Surge. Auch der Auftritt am Dynamo Open Air 1996 stellte ein Highlight dar und sicherte !der Band einen neuen Plattendeal mit Century Media Records. Mit dem Album ‚Bedlam‘ (2000) startete die Rückbesinnung auf vergangene Heldentaten, und die Musik tendierte zusehends in Richtung Thrash Metal. Auch konnte man 2001 die Bühne des With Full Force zum Beben bringen. Nach dem 2003er Album Encounter veröffentlichten GURD ein gelungenes CD/DVD Package zum 10jährigen Jubiläum (10 Years Of Addiction). Der Auftritt fand im legendären !Z7, ihrer ‚Homebase‘, statt. Zwei Alben und mehrere Touren später (Bang!/2006, Your Drug Of Choice/2008) unterzeichnete die Band einen Vertrag mit NoiseArt Records und veröffentlichte das bisher letzte Album ‚Never Fail‘, welches mit einer grossen Europatour mit Dark Tranquility und Eluveitie promotet wurde. Im Jahr 2012 spielten GURD neben diversen Konzerten auch auf der Metal Fest-Tour. Ausserdem ergab sich die !Möglichkeit, Bands wie Testament, Coroner, Soulfly und Prong zu supporten. Momentan arbeiten GURD an ihrer 20-Jahr-Jubiläums-Scheibe und bereiten sich auf die grosse Jubiläums-Party am 5.12.

Originally released in 1994, after Pestilence had broken up, this compilation was put together by Monte Conner, who worked for Roadrunner Records. What you get here is nine tracks that were available on the four Pestilence albums ("Malleus Maleficarum", "Consuming Impulse", "Testimony of the Ancients" and "Spheres"), plus one song "Hatred Within" that was only available on the Teutonic Invasion, Part II compilation, and no less than six live songs (recorded at Dynamo Open Air)... the only live material the band ever released. What makes this interesting is that Conner mixed and matched the songs from the four albums, eschewing chronological order for a musical journey. You get three from Consuming Impulse ("Out of the Body", "The Process of Suffocation", "Dehydrated"), three from Testimony of the Ancients ("Twisted Truth", "Land of Tears", "The Secrecies of Horror"), two from Malleus Maleficarum ("Parricide", "Subordinate to the Domination"), one from Spheres ("Mind Reflections") and "Hatred Within", from the Teutonic Invasion Part II. If you're at all familiar with Pestilence, you know that all four albums they created were unique. Their big strength was to be musically adventurous, and they incorporated everything from thrash to death to jazz and fusion during their run. Vocals shifted from cleaner thrash vocals to gruffer death growls. The only song on here I wasn't familiar with was "Hatred Within", which is a raw, Slayer-esque grinder.

Metallica introduced Dutch audiences to a new, even more extreme, offshoot of heavy metal music: thrash metal. In a recent television documentary on one of these early concerts, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich said that from the onset, Dutch audiences proved to be very receptive of the band: “Holland was really, I think, the first place where it felt like Metallica connected at a deeper level” (Talma, 2014). Ever since, the Dutch metal scene has had a track record of providing a warm and welcoming stage for foreign and domestic metal acts. A second key event took place in 2001, when Dutch metal music had its first mainstream success. Symphonic metal band Within Temptation reached number two on the charts with their single “Ice Queen”.
