To La Serena What severe and brown earth, sun-soaked, barren, poor, and torn by a thousand stone needles. Softened by pastures where the bells lend their voice to the sheep. Earth watched over by castles already void, of dry battlements, lichen and wild-fig covered, silent witness of the passage of time. Naked earth of trees and undergrowth, of mountain crags, dark and ashen, of a dying greyish green cut out against the sky like a Chinese shadow. And however, so beautiful. In spring the breeze carries the scent of labdanum and heath to the plain, and the rosemary prays to its god, the Sun, giving to the air a magic aura of sanctity, as if bathing it in incense. Winter sows the earth with torrents, ponds, streams leaping and sparkling, their banks carpeted with the tiniest flowers whose names only botanists know. Spring dries the soul of La Serena and shrouds it with flowers, crowning it with beauty, then to clothe it in fields of golden hay combed by the east wind in summer. Everything in La Serena is ephemeral, as a lily petal left on the altar, as the winged soul of a butterfly, as the tears of a child. PALABRAS CLAVE: Monocotiledóneas, corología, Despeñaperros, Jaén. ABSTRACT: Several taxa with chorological interest, bulbous monocotyledonea, in the region of Despeñaperros, Jaén, are commented. La comarca del paso o desfiladero de Despeñaperros, inmersa en plena Sierra Morena jiennense y ciudadrealeña, es conocida por sus valores naturales de todo tipo, geológicos, faunísticos y botánicos, así como históricos. Actualmente está declarado el Parque Natural de Despeñaperros (Jaén), de cerca de 8.000 hectáreas, el más pequeño de esta provincia. Los materiales geológicos, fundamentalmente cuarcitas, arcosas, conglomerados y esquistos del Ordovícico y Precámbrico, de carácter silíceo (IGME, 1982), componen formaciones geológicas en ocasiones muy llamativas. La cubierta vegetal está constituida por bosques de encinares, alcornocales, melojares (de roble melojo o rebollo), y en los ríos y arroyos de cierta entidad por alisedas y fresnedas (TORRES & al., 1998), resultando muy interesante y peculiar el desarrollo del llamado bosque mixto mediterráneo (BLANCO CASTRO & al, 1997; HERVÁS, 2002), cuyo mejor exponente -

The taxonomic analysis of E. australis distinguishes two subspecies: E. australis subsp. australis and E. australis subsp. aragonensis. The statistical treatment confirms the differences between the subal- liances Ericenion aragonensis and Ericenion umbellatae.
