THE COLUMNS December 2020, Volume 58, Issue 12 First Presbyterian Church, Waynesboro, VA First Presbyterian Church of Waynesboro is a community-minded congregation living out the love of Christ as we serve one another with humility, gentleness, and patience through God’s grace. Sunday Morning Worship Schedule Church Office Hours Pastor’s Hours Monday -Thursday 10-2:30 Monday - Wednesday - 8:00 – 2:30 Video Broadcast until further notice Thursday 8-4:30 Friday – Closed As the unrelenting trial that is 2020 comes to an end, I find the advent of, well, Advent to be a welcome relief. It's not so much the seasonal aspect - the decorating and music and the eggnog - because let's face it: the holidays are going to be pretty low-key this year. No; it's the hope that comes with a new liturgical calendar. God's Creation is marked by the cyclical: the seasons of the year; the circle of life; evaporation and precipitation; every breath we exhale and is absorbed by the forest. There is quite literally a revolutionary quality to the world, and to our own existence. The church year is also a cycle. From Advent to Christmas, Lent to Easter, Pentecost to Christ the King, we enact the life of Jesus Christ, even as we seek to grow in faith and wisdom, fellowship and compassion. Advent is a season of anticipation, of looking forward - not simply to a blank calendar, but to the return of the one who makes all things new. It is a season of hope in the midst of darkness, and I for one could use a little hope.

When we are baptized into the Christian faith, we are immeasurably blessed to be claimed by the Creator who brought us into being. We become children of God. We not only find our place in the universe but also are found and redeemed so that we may witness to the majesty of our Creator God, each in our own unique way. • You Should Invite a Family Member to Church. We All Have Dear Members
You should invite a family member to church. We all have dear members of our family who have fallen away from the fellowship or have never accepted the love of Christ into their lives. You may be the one, for a reason God only knows, who they will listen to and take a step in the door. It may take asking a hundred times. If they live in another city it may take you putting together a list of good churches near them. But if this holiday season they walk through the doors and into the presence of the body of Christ where the Spirit of God is at work, won’t all the effort, previous rejection and prayers have been worth it? You should invite a friend to church. They have lived life with you, trusted you, raised their kids along with you, seen you at your worst and best. Do they not deserve a love and devotion that is unwilling to give up? Jesus told His disciples in John 15 that there is no greater love than to lay down your life for your friends. If that’s true perhaps you could find in yourself the courage to invite them to church. And throw in lunch afterwards! They are your friends, right? You should invite a neighbor to church. Jesus also said during His time on earth that we are to love our neighbors as ourselves. Those who live their lives side by side with us should see in us a love and concern for their well being, not only in the physical sense but more importantly in the spiritual sense.

  • Closing the Spiritual Circle of Life: the Unconditional Love Revolution
Closing the Spiritual Circle of Life: The Unconditional Love Revolution Christiane Kirsch Academy for Creativity and Higher Consciousness, Luxembourg. Abstract This article presents and combines theories and philosophies on the spiritual rebirthing and ascension process emanating from psychology, comparative mythology, and comparative religion. It addresses various states of the soul encountered on the mystical journey to Divine Union and the various ways God assists human beings in completing this process, both personally and collectively. The analysis of the soul regeneration process — the science of the saints — addresses human sanctification during earthly existence and eventually beyond if the worldly life does not suffice to complete this process. Furthermore, the role of the Divine Feminine in salvation history is highlighted as well as the importance of the alchemical communion between divine counterparts in the inauguration of the Millennium of Peace leading toward the New Jerusalem. “There is no power that can stop me in my flight toward God” (St. Faustina, 1981/2005, §761). Keywords: Ascension; Divine Feminine; unconditional love; psychology; comparative mythology; comparative religion. This article begins by introducing the various states of the soul experienced in the ascension process, leading toward God’s plan to assist human beings in completing this process, in which the Divine Mother and the alchemical nature of sacred partnerships play a crucial role. Ultimately, it depicts the impending step in the psychological, cultural, and spiritual evolution of mankind, which will close the spiritual circle of life. Although some individuals have been prepared to assist and guide others, it is a collective journey that requires every individual’s active participation.
