ISSUED FOR 1917. ^ •> LONDON: PRINTED FOR THE PAL^EONTOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY. AGENTS FOR THE SOCIETY DULAU AND CO., LTD., 34-36, MARGARET STREET, W. 1. APRIL, 1919. THE PAL^EONTOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY was established in the year L847, for the purpose of figuring and describing British Fossils. Each person subscribing One Guinea is considered a Member of the Society, and is entitled to lite Volume issued for the Year to which the Subscription relates. The price of the Volume to Non-subscribers is Twenty-five Shillings net. Subscriptions are considered to be due on the 1st of January in each year. The Annual Volumes are now issued in two forms of Binding : 1st, with all the Monographs stitched together and enclosed in one cover ; 2nd, with each of the Monographs in a paper cover, and the whole of the separate parts enclosed in an envelope. Members wishing to obtain the Volume arranged in the latter form are requested to communicate with the Secretary. Most of the back volumes are in stock. Monographs or parts of Monographs already published can be obtained, apart from the annual volumes, from Messrs. Dulau and Co., Ltd., 34-36, Margaret Street, London, W. 1, who will forward a complete price list on application. Members desirous of forwarding the objects of the Society can be provided with plates and circulars for distribution on application to the Secretary, Dr. A. Smith Woodward, British Museum (Nat. Hist.), South Kensington, London, S.W. 7. The following Monographs are in course of preparation and publication : The Cambrian Trilobites, by Mr. Philip Lake. The Palaeozoic Asterozoa, by Dr. W. K. Spencer. The Ordovician and Silurian Mollusca, by Dr. Wheelton Hind. The British Bellerophontacea, by Dr. F. R. Cowper Reed. The Pliocene Mollusca, by Mr. F. W. Harmer. The Pleistocene Mammalia, by Prof. S. H. Reynolds s Owing to scarcity of paper, the Council has decided to omit from the present volume the usual lists of members and publications. Full particulars can be. obtained from the Secretary. Members deceased during 1917: Dr. C. T. Clough, Sir Charles Holcroft, E. J. Power, Esq., and Miss A. F. Yule. New member: Dr. Wyatt Wingrave, ANNUAL REPORT OF THE COUNCIL FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31st DECEMBER, 1916. BEAD AND ADOPTED AT THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, HELD AT THE APARTMENTS OF THE GEOLOGICAL SOCIETY, BURLINGTON HOUSE 30th MARCH, 1917. Dr. HENRY WOODWARD, F.R.S., President, IN THE CHAIR. The Council in presenting its Seventieth Annual Report, regrets that, owing to the various difficulties of existing circumstances, its publications still remain in arrear. Palseontological research continues to make progress, and there is no lack of offers of Monographs to the Society ; but authors are hindered by many draw- backs, and the increased cost of publication necessarily reduces the amount of the annual issue. The volume for 1915, which was ready for distribution in October, 1916, contains another instalment of Mr. W. K. Spencer's Monograph of "Palaeozoic Asterozoa," with four plates, and the first part of a Monograph of " Wealden and Purbeck Fishes," by Dr. A. Smith Woodward, with ten plates. The volume for 1916 is planned to contain instalments of the Monographs of "Pliocene Mollusca," " Paleeozoic Asterozoa," " Cambrian Trilobites," " British Graptolites," and " Wealden and Purbeck Fishes," altogether with twenty-six plates. The delay in the publications again increased the balance at the bank, and the Council resolved, from patriotic motives, to invest £400 in Exchequer Bonds, 1920, bearing interest at 6 per cent. Among members who have died during the year, the Council desires especially to refer to Mr. C. T. Clough, Mr. Bedford McNeill, Mr. Clement Reid, and Miss A. F. Yule. These were all valued supporters of the Society, and Mr. Clement Reid had not only served on the Council but had also contributed an index to the Monograph of the " Devonian Fauna " by the Rev. G. F. Whidborne. To replace the losses sustained, the Council would welcome the help and personal influence of the membei's in making the work and needs of the Society more widely known among those who are interested in the study of fossils. It would also appreciate the more sympathetic co-operation of the various Field Clubs and Natural History Societies. The thanks of the Society are due to the Council of the Geological Society for permission both to store the stock of back volumes, and to hold the Council Meetings and Annual General Meeting in their apartments. In conclusion, it is proposed that the retiring members of the Council be Dr. Kitchin, Mr. Oke, and Dr. Strahan ; that the new members be Mr. H. A. Allen, Mr. E. Heron- Allen, Rev. H. N. Hutchinson, and Dr. C. T. Trechmann ; that the President be Dr. Henry Woodward ; the Treasurer, Mr. Robert S. Herries ; and the Secretary, Dr. A. Smith Woodward. Annexed is the Balance-sheet. ACT A PAL A EON T 0 LOG ICA POLONICA Vol. XVIII 1973 No.4 MARIA KIEPURA DEVONIAN BRYOZOANS OF THE HOLY CROSS MOUNTAINS, POLAND. PART II. CYCLOSTOMATA AND CYSTOPORATA Abstract. - Descriptions are given of 33, species of Middle Devonian Bryozoa from the Holy Cross Mts., belonging to the orders Cyclostomata and Cystoporata. Cyclo stomata are represented by 26 species (4 new: Corynotrypa (Corynotrypa) skalensis, C. (C.) basiplata, Stomatopora varigemmata and Diversipora bitubulata n. gen.). Cystoporata are represented by 7 new species: Ceramoporella orbiculata, C. grandi cystica, Favositella integrimuralis, Fistulipora boardmani, F. emphantica, Cyclotrypa nekhoroshevi and Fistuliramus astrovae. The systematic assignment of the genus Hederella Hall, 1881 has been discussed and the "tabulate-like" microstructure of the zooecial walls of this genus examined. In addition, the epifauna and associated assemblages have been characterized as well as the geological and palaeoecological conditions in which the described Bryozoa occurred. INTRODUCTION Among the Middle Devonian Bryozoa of the Holy Cross Mts., the present author has, up to now, described Ctenostomata (Kiepura, 1965). The present paper is a continuation of her investigations on the Middle Devonian Bryozoa of this region and contains descriptions of 33 species belonging to 9 genera of the orders Cyclostomata and Cystoporata occur ring in the Grzegorzowice - Skaly profile. The bryozoan collection of the Palaeozoological Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences also contains a rich material representing the orders Trepostomata and Cryptostomata from the Middle Devonian of the Holy Cross Mts., which will be described at a future date. The material described in the present paper was collected by the author during several years of fieldwork (1950-1954).

  • 35-51 New Data on Pleuropholis Decastroi (Teleostei, Pleuropholidae)
Abstract: The skull and the body of Pleuropholis decastroi, a fossil fish from the marine Albian (Lower Cretaceous) of southern Italy, are re-described in details. P. decastroi differs from the other species of the genus by their two nasals that are in contact along the mid-line, completely separating the dermethmoid (= rostral) from the frontals. With its extremely broadened maxilla that covers the lower jaw and its strongly reduced supramaxilla, P. decastroi seems more closely related to Pleuropholis cisnerosorum, from the Upper Jurassic of Mexico, than to the other species of the genus.

The site documents a fauna of Early Jurassic nektonic marine animals (five species of fishes, one species of marine crocodilian, two species of ichthyosaurs, cephalopods and crustaceans), but also over 20 spe- cies of insects. Unlike other fossil sites of similar age, the 3D preservation at Strawberry Bank provides unique evidence on palatal and braincase structures in the fishes and reptiles. The age of the site is important, documenting a marine ecosystem during recovery from the end-Triassic mass extinction, but also exactly coincident with the height of the Toarcian Oceanic Anoxic Event, a further time of turmoil in evolution.

The list is the result of regular queries in numerous journals, books and online publications. It provides a complete list of publication citations as well as a database report containing rearranged subsets of the list sorted by the keyword statistics, extant and extinct genera and species descriptions from the years 2000 to 2017, list of descriptions of extinct and extant species from 2017, parasitology, reproduction, distribution, diet, conservation, and taxonomy. The paper is intended to be consulted for information. In addition, we provide data information on the geographic and depth distribution of newly described species, i.e. the type specimens from the years 1990 to 2017 in a hot spot analysis. New in this year's POTY is the subheader "biodiversity" comprising a complete list of all valid chimaeriform, selachian and batoid species, as well as a list of the top 20 most researched chondrichthyan species. Please note that the content of this paper has been compiled to the best of our abilities based on current knowledge and practice, however, possible errors cannot entirely be excluded.
